Kadayawan Electronic Entertainment Cyber Games: StarCraft Tournament

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Jansen Tan Playing (Round 1, Bracket 3, Game 1)

It has been a long time since I played StarCraft. And I’ve never watched a StarCraft competition live (but I’ve watched some WCG broadcasts though). Today was the first day of E-squared Events’ Kadayawan Electronic Entertainment Cyber Games Tournament and the main feature was a 1 vs 1 StarCraft Tournament that pitted the best StarCraft players of Davao City against three of the best from Tagum City.

Chilling with Team Chill

Monday, August 13th, 2007

A couple of weeks back, NoMets leader Ding Lao shocked the local gaming scene when he announced the formation of new team composed of BoyzTrek players. The announcement implied that NoMets no longer existed and that he was retiring. The team he formed is composed of players he personally hand-picked. These consisted of former NoMets teammates Yuki Perez and Burnz Flores. He also recruited former DC Clan players Bhoymax Julakit, Franco Villaroman, and Topher Lopez. Completing the team is their sixth man Louie Narshall.

Two Saturdays ago, Chill debuted on the first day of the Kadayawan DotA Tournament Eliminations. They beat the famed TC Clan to be declared as that day’s best DotA Team, and earned the right to fight it out with CORPOration this Saturday to be declared as this season’s best DotA Team.

Before they go into battle, let us meet the team formed out of drunkenness and built on camaraderie… Team CHILL.

I’ve Been Challenged

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Last Saturday, while having a meeting with some of the co-organizers of the Kadayawan Tournament, one of the co-organizers asked me if I was up for a challenge. Allegedly, Babskie of Bytes Team asked him if I would be willing to play a 1 vs 1 game with Babskie’s girlfriend, Aileen. I was laughing, but also seriously considering it.

All 4 One, One for All

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

So after exactly three hundred and fifty four days, I finally made my second post on the DS blog! Hurray!

Yesterday was filled with funny/weird dota matches. Kim(SilentYetDeadly/Drifterz) and I played with my high school batch mate Jude Calabio, but naturally our opponents feared our combined LSGH powarz and left than 30 mins into the game. Kim got disconnected after the first game so Jude and I bullied a couple noobs(magnataur and bradwarden) using Lich and a Battle Techies: LINK.

After eating fried chicken for dinner, my long-time friend and high school batchmate Ren Siccion invited me to play Dota with his brother Ral, and cousins Ric and Richard at GG shop to shop room 5. The first game was fun, but they left one by one when we breached their middle lane. Oh well.

CORPOration: When We Play, We Mean Business!

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Last weekend, two teams reigned supreme over all others during the Kadayawan Electronic Entertainment: DotA Tournament Eliminations. On Day 2, newly formed CORPOration (CORPO) effortlessly won over their opponents. This is a truly laudable feat considering the team was formed only about two weeks ago.

I had the opportunity to sit down with four of CORPO’s members, and get to know them better. Throughout the entire interview, one word was repeated over and over… TEAMWORK.

A Conversation with Ding Lao

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Even before I entered the world of competitive DotA in Davao City, I already know the name Ding Lao. He, according to many people is the number one DotA player in the city. I finally met the guy a few weeks back when my former team played against NoMets in the first round of Champions Eliminations of the Davao Cyber Expo 2007: Davao Cyber Games Tournament. The guy striked me as being quiet. That is until the games actually began.

When NoMets started playing, the guy turned into a monster… he was loud, proud, and demanding. No doubt about it, Nelson Jeffrey “Ding” Lao commanded NoMets all the way to victory. This loud and proud guy earned the ire of many gamers along their way to the championship. Together with the rest of NoMets, he was branded as an arrogant braggart who solicited the hatred of the teams and players they defeated. Undeniably, I was one of those who had this impression.

All About Wards

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

One of the things I learned from watching tournaments and match games here in Davao City is the importance of smart warding. One of the reasons NoMets became the Davao Cyber Expo champions is because of their excellent warding. Their Lich only had two staples in his inventory: a Boots of Speed and a Town Portal. He used the rest of his gold for buying both Sentry Wards and Observer Wards.
