Filipino “Guitar Hero” Wins Silver in WCG Asian Championship

Despite the loss of Team Mineski at the World Cyber Games Asian Championship DotA elims, many are unaware that a member of the Philippine contingent pulled off a second place finish in the Guitar Hero 3 competition. Jose Luis “Jolo” Benesa, a high school graduate from the Ateneo de Manila University, beat out competitors from China, Vietnam and Korea but eventually succumbed to New Zealand’s Rafael Formoso by a very close margin. Benesa’s win is the Philippines’ best showing in the WCG so far since Team Flow’s bronze finish last year for DotA. New Zealand made a surprisingly strong finish in the DotA competition as well, placing second next to China.

World Cyber Games Asia 2008: DotA Championships

No surprise, Ehome of China took home the championship trophy and bragging rights as they won this years DotA Championship in the Asian Cyber Games 2008 held in Singapore last weekend.

Eliminations
In the elimination rounds, the fourteen participating teams were divided into four brackets. Bracket A was composed of Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Japan. Bracket B teams were Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Chinese Taiwan. Australia, Philippines, and Indonesia were in Bracket C, while India, New Zealand, and Thailand were in Bracket D.

Among the fourteen participating teams, two from each bracket advanced to the quarterfinals. These teams were China, Singapore, Korea, Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Thailand.
