    Monday, December 17th, 2007

Due to the dismal result of the first run of the Philippine DotA Improvement Project (PDIP), the organizers have decided to re-format the project. The new format aims to encourage participating teams to be more active in the project, and to enhance the competitiveness of the tournament.

    Gambling

    Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

I know this story or stories are not new to all gamers or frequent players in a particular internet cafes.

I was playing in a computer shop I usually hang out. Then around noon time, there were a couple of guys came in and asked everyone of us if we are willing to play DotA with them for cash. In short, gamble with them. But unfortunately, there were no available seat for them to play. Then later at the same day, another group of guys just barged in and asked the owner if they are playing for cash. They did not specify the game they want to play so the owner talked back to them and this is how it went.

Guy: Ate nakikipagpustahan kayo? (Do you allow betting here?)
Owner: Pustahan? Anong laro, patintero o piko? (Betting? For what, patintero or piko [sarcastically])
Guy: Ate nagtatanong lang naman po ng maayos e. Oo ba o hindi? (We asked you nicely. Yes or no?)
Owner: Eh hindi naman namin alam kung ano laro ninyo eh. (I dunno what game you’re talking about.)
Guy: (talking to his friends) Hanap na nga lang tayo ng iba. (Let’s go somewhere else.)

And everyone just laughed out loud and they just went out of the shop frustrated and seems like in search for another shop to barge in.

    Rant:

I am not saying that these guys should stop gambling and I am not against gambling because I too did it once.

But seriously, do some guys really have to go shop hopping and hoping to play with others for cash? I mean, they do it regularly like it is their only way of living.

If they are gambling against shop players, why would they set the rules? Doesn’t it make the game one-sided and getting a win-win situation?

And whenever they win, they leave the cafe with smiles on their faces and as if nothing happened. And if they lose, they usually ask for a rematch and revises the rules for a better chance of winning.
