3 weeks of intense DotA games, over 32 teams in contention, more than 150 players in battle, the the Second Davao Cyber Games of the Davao Cyber Expo 2008 was successfully concluded in three days of championship games.

June 21 and July 1, teams converged at eight cafes in Davao City to earn a spot in the Grand Championship. Among the 32 teams who joined, sixteen emerged as the toughest: Yogen and Yogan of Tagum City; Nomets, High, Wei and DC Clan of BoyzTrek; Humore, Maxim, Fur, and 50ph of Jimbers’; Bratz.Pro, Axis, Blink, Crazy, and Styx of Sequel; and Bytes.

These sixteen teams were then divided into four independent brackets. Each bracket consisting of four teams playing in a double eliminations format. The champion for each bracket will then proceed to play in the FINALS Rounds. The teams were bracketed as follows:

Bracket A: Yogen vs Nomets, Humore vs Bratz
Bracket B: Yogan vs Blink, Fur vs DC Clan

On the third day, epic battles were fought among the four Bracket champions. In Round 1, Nomets easily won over Crazy, while DC Clan struggled to stay afloat despite being owned and dominated by High. After thrilling but successful aggressive all sides pushes, DC Clan won over High.

In Round 2, former teammates and friends faced each other as Nomets and DC Clan played the most thrilling game of the entire tournament in the Winners Bracket. It was a close, heart-attack inducing game in which both sides showed why they are considered as the best teams with the best players in Mindanao. Towards the end, DC Clan showed toughness but Nomets prevailed due to wrong moves executed by the DC Clan. On the other side of the arena, highly favored High led, bred, and trained by Rioren Padama fought hard but had a heart-breaking loss to Crazy in the losers bracket, giving them a fourth place finish in a field of 32 teams.

Round 3, DC Clan came in aggressive and with the grit to win as they battled with Crazy. The less than one month team, led by Topher Lopez with tactician Jeztah Ching, tournament veterans Duke Dalumpines and Chian Coronel, and first-timers Rey Campañer and Hussien Ibrahim gave a strong and consistent game rendering eligible for the finals.

Round 4, DC Clan battled it out with their rivals Nomets who had a twice to beat advantage. It was a lopsided game with Nomets dominating from start to finish. Nomets, led by Jay Arabia, with superstars Burnz Flores, Cocoy Villaroman and Paul Limlao, and imba support player Subang Padilla triumphed and proved that they are indeed the team to beat in Mindanao.

It was a fun-filled, thrilling three days of DotA that is one for the books. It was a moment of glory for a chosen few, a heart-breaking experience for most, but definitely unforgettable for all. It is proof that Davao’s gamers are growing and evolving with the help of the organizers, E2-Events, their marshalls, staff and sponsors, the support of the Davao community and local government.

Looking forward to DCE 2009!!! GG EVERYONE! :D
