The unbeatable Chen-Sven tandem of Arby Ng and Vinzyre Villeguez.

In a blurb about Team Philippines for the Asian Cyber Games 2007 (ACG), Filipinos’ preference for using Sven as the central hero is highlighted…

Teams from the archipelago are famous for their hyper farmed Sven style…. It is this special style that will be the headache of teams that will face them in this tournament simply because of the fact that it is quite hard to reproduce this special style in any internal simulations a team could make.

Alvin Villeguez of Team Flow, better known as Vinzyre, showcased this Filipino Sven style when he played in the ACG. He is the Sven to Arby Ng’s Chen. The two went beyond the hyper farmed Sven, and popularized the Sven-Chen tandem that has amazed and stumped local and international teams.

At 21 years old (birthday: May 22, 1986), Vinzyre is already a semi-retired professional gamer. He is now working as a networking technician.

Vinzyre started playing DotA All-Stars in 2004 when he got tired of playing massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG). He enjoyed the game and continued to play it until the name Vinzyre became synonymous with Sven. He created the name “Vinzyre” from Vin (short for Alvin) combined with Zyre, a cartoon character’s name. It is no surprise that Sven is his favorite hero. His reason? Sven is user-friendly.

Vinzyre developed his skills in DotA by playing a lot of public games. Meanwhile, joining tournaments exposed him to new strategies. He believes that his edge over other players is his experience. Vinzyre also believes that teamwork is the greatest skill he has developed from playing the game. He has also learned how to keep his composure in times of extreme stress and pressure.

DotA’s popularity, according to Vinzyre, is due to how it is better than MMORPGs. But he thinks that O2 Jam is a more relaxing game to play. He also plays the guitar during downtime.

What is the best thing about DotA? Vinzyre believes it is winning. And the worst thing? Losing. He believes that the worst mistake that a noob can commit is not bringing a town portal.

Vinzyre has participated in more than 20 major tournaments. Among these, he singles out the ACG as his most memorable experience because it was televised.
Among DotA players, it is Arby that Vinzyre admires most. But now that Arby is out of the country, and Flow has broken up, he is building anew team with other veteran players, Paradigm Extreme. He concedes, however, that is new team is weaker than Flow due to their lack of chemistry. Among other teams, he is most intimidated by Team Milano.

On the prospects of pro gaming’s success in the country, Vinzyre is pessimistic. He cites that it lacks the full support of the government, which he thinks is the key to the success of the industry.

Meanwhile, Vinzyre espouses his former team’s gaming philosophy: “Just go with the Flow.”
