Getting to Know Alfonso Baja of Flow

Posted by polar on August 29th, 2007 | Visited 1763 times, 4 so far today

After his successful stint as part of Team Flow in the Asian Cyber Games, at 21 years old, Alfonso Martin Lim Baja is retiring from pro-DotA Gaming. Alfonso is better known by gamers as Ponti or ponsonegro.

Ponti started playing DotA about four years ago, when his friends, particularly a rowing teammate of his, taught him how to play. He continued playing DotA because he had so much fun playing it. Like most other players, he believes that DotA is so popular nowadays because it is a team game. He compares DotA to chess because of the amount of analysis and strategy needed to play the two games. His favorite hero is Naix.

Like his teammate Jojo Uy, Ponti improved his DotA skills by always playing public LAN games with other players in Blue Skies Katipunan. From the game, he has developed coordination, teamwork, and patience. He shares that noobs commit mistakes by showing off while trying to have “showtime” moments.

Ponti is one to admit that his stint as a pro-gamer has affected his life in such a way that it has made him a “bum”. He asserts that the best and worst thing about DotA is how addicting it can be. He advises other players to always have a balanced life, and to always have fun.

For now, Ponti is retiring from pro-DotA gaming, but he will continue to play the game… for fun!
