Icefrog cuts affiliations with DA

The controversial question spawned from this situation now is - what will the future of dota be?
Of course, right now it seems that the frozen amphibian is going to continue with the map. However, what would happen if he, for some reason did not continue the map, perhaps, he has too many issues with the players and other websites. What then?
Would we continue playing the old maps? Or would someone step up to the helm and take charge of the dota project like what happened with guinsoo and euls?
Well enough of speculation for now, whatever the future holds, let it stay in the future.
There have been rumours spreading that Icefrog and Pendragon had an argument about the League of Legends and of DotA becoming P2P(Pay to play) since Pendragon did not think they were getting enough for the amount of effort put in to developing the map.
Part of Icefrog’s statement : “As a result of some differences” casts a certain shadow of doubt as to how and why he actually left the website. What actually happened is known only to the two.
According to Pendragon, there is no bad blood between them and this is simply a parting of the ways, so to speak. He also asserted that there is a possibility of him working with the frog on a project together, once more, in the future. On what, is yet to be seen.
Aftermath:
Icefrog created playdota.com which he is using now as the ‘official’ site. According to the frog, he does not even take ad revenue.
Pendragon personally stated he plans on updating and continuing to upgrade dota-allstars even though it has become a fansite, as opposed to some speculation regarding him turning it into a LoL site or stepping stone to boost LoL popularity.
The creation of the new website has divded the dota allstars community to a certain level. Many have emigrated to playdota while there are also many who decided to stay at dota-allstars. com.
One thing is for sure, something did happen between the two and they have both decided to remain extremely vague and discreet, only letting out the tiniest of details.

aww……well…..if there is a conflict happened between them, let us all thank that DoTA is still running…..
I am not interested with their conflict or misunderstanding or the like…..
I am just thanking that their so-called and rumored feud doesn’t affect the DoTA maps…..

another scandal.
nothing official in the non-beta forums of the LoL site about P2P yet.
I continue to hope it wont be.

its actually playdota.net..lol..
June 14th, 2009 at 11:28 am
If DotA becomes p2p, most people, if not all, will probably keep playing the latest map on bnet anyway. The “pr0″s might pay for it, but I certainly won’t.

Hmmm…
“I am just thanking that their so-called and rumored feud doesn’t affect the DoTA maps….” Hoothoot
There is another situation here that could arise. Somebody from dota-allstars.com could take charge there and dota could develop from there, and IceFrog could continue on with his awesome skillz. Two different paths of the evolution of DotA… could it happen?
If I shouldn’t be studying for my exam tomorrow you could have read about this in my blog… but exams suck like that.
lol. anyway IceFrog can continue his awesomeness!

ic frog is working with dotapickup now and this is old news. The reason they split up is because of league of legends. Pendragon, guinsoo and shit want to make cash out of it while icefrog wants to keep it free and for fun…
So now icefrog is working with dotapickup while the others are working on league of legends.

You guy might be totally looking in the wrong place and pointing the finger at the wrong person. You should consider why Icefrog would go to such a big effort to create a brand new website over a falling out. I think he didn’t get something he wanted from PD, or he wanted control over the largest DotA’s websites population. Why else create a new site, there has to be a reason. I’d even suggest that IceFrog might have a conflict of interest. As PD has said, he’s recieved million dollar offers for his website. Maybe. Who wouldn’t want to create a website that could make that sort of cash?
All I’m saying is to keep an open mind. As much as we’d like to think so, Icefrog is not a god. Also before you start calling me a troll, wait 3 months. See if Icefrog is doing anything self serving with his new website. And I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. Just don’t go accusing PD of doing it when IceFrog does it 3 months later. Because if its not ok for PD, then its totally ok for Icefrog???
BTW, I happen to know where those rumors started and they are all untrue (well at least the league of legends one and the P2P one). Now think of PD and Icefrog, one of them is being the bigger man by not sharing the details.
