I’ve Been Challenged
Posted by polar on August 12th, 2007 | Visited 1435 times, 1 so far todayLast Saturday, while having a meeting with some of the co-organizers of the Kadayawan Tournament, one of the co-organizers asked me if I was up for a challenge. Allegedly, Babskie of Bytes Team asked him if I would be willing to play a 1 vs 1 game with Babskie’s girlfriend, Aileen. I was laughing, but also seriously considering it.
Yesterday afternoon, boredom led me to send Babskie an SMS asking if he was serious in setting up a match between me and Aileen. And he was… Nohooo! I accepted the challenged but opted to have it delayed to September. I am very busy with many things right now and I really don’t want to go into the match unprepared. I want to practice. I doubt if I will be able to do so since I really am busy. Nonetheless, I want it to be an even match because according to Ding, Aileen is a much better player than I am. Nohooo… Babskie told me Aileen has not fully agreed to playing against me yet. I guess she thinks I’m a good player given the amount of exposure I have. I guess our real enemy here is not knowing each other well enough. Thus, we don’t know what to expect.
The challenge is a single 1 vs 1 all-females match in -arshnpom (all random, same hero, no pwer-ups, only middle lane) mode.
My problems:
1) I don’t know how to last hit creeps. I know how to deny creeps but I’m not very good at it.
2) I don’t know the skills build of most heroes.
3) I don’t know the item buil of most heroes.
4) I don’t have enough confidence.
If Aileen is as good as advertised, I don’t expect to win at all. I am looking at this as an opportunity to learn, to develop skills, and to gain experience in competitive gaming. Wish me luck!!!

the first 3 of your problem wasn’t that problematic
only the fourth one is…
even if you are bad last hitter, doesn’t know the skill builds and the item builds if you have confidence it’ll be a problem for the enemy
secondly DotA is a mind game attack her Psychologically and use the map at your advantage (using backstabbing strategy, fakes, backdooring etc)
learn from people around you!
you have seen a lot of games and doing the same build as they do won’t hurt
and lastly luck, i hope the goddess of luck be by your side!

The item build for the hero depends on his skills.Build items that connect to your spells one way or another.About the skill build,it depends on the situation.Get the spells you need in a certain moment.
Confidence:C’mon,polar!You’re the best!You can kick her @$$!!!I know it!XD

I’ll accept the pics of you and your opponent. Just PM them to me. Thanks!!
Anyway, about your problems..
1] Last-hitting/Denying = You’re pretty much defeated already if you lose here. Gold and EXP is the bread and butter of all heroes, and getting denied to one of them will severely hinder you to achieving your hero’s potential.
Tip: Just practice.
****
2] - 3] Skill and Item build = Well, since it’s all-random, you’re at a disadvantage. You probably don’t have the time to experiment on all of the heroes, so I suggest reading the guides here. Lol. No seriously.
Tip: Theories are a good alternative to practice.
****
4] Confidence = We can’t help you with this. Just believe in yourself!! Go Polar!! We’ll cheer for you! WOOO!!

I want you to obliterate her. Show no mercy. And even if you don`t have much of a confidence, show confidence, fake it. Intimidate her. I want her dead. How dare she? Oh sorry `bout that. I`m feelin tipsy LOL… Anyways… I believe in you!!! Peace!

like everyone else is saying.
1)Last hitting and Denying. There are some heroes whose base damage is low and is really hard to last hit. so the opponent would have a hard time doing so to you. so just practice. doesnt mean with all heroes. just enough to get the hang of it.
2)Skill build and Item build. As Yukino put, it is all random so you wont know what to get before the hero is acually chosen. For item builds, i would suggest go buy the items that is cheaper and would acually help your hero more in the begining. cuz the begining is always the key. for the skill build, just use your instinct. look at the skill and check if it would help you during early game.
3)Confidence. Well you maybe you dont have enough confidence. Doesnt necessarily mean you cant get more. Remember we are here cheering for you. Use our confidence in you to help you get confidence in yourself.
Best of luck to you
and go kick some a**. go polar! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
