Orochi’s First Rant: Kill Stealing

Ok, here we go:
Kill stealing is the practice of stealing the spoils from a vanquished enemy from other players. Kill stealing occurs when the rewards for defeating a foe are limited or highly desired, and many players are competing for that same reward.
We all know what kill stealing is, I also know that we’ve all experienced the act first hand. Whether it’s some jerk casting dagon5 on a hero with 50hp left, or you yourself “accidentally” casting magic missile on a dying hero. We’ve seen it, we’ve felt it, and we’ve done it. But have you ever stopped and think…Why? Why are we so obsessed in getting more kills? To the point of stealing someone else’s bounty?
Not only is it wrong, it also has a high possibility of messing up your teamwork. Or worse, it could lead into arguments and later into a fight between teammates; resulting into the demise of the whole team. We know how it feels when somebody gets the reward for a kill that you worked for and deserve, but why do we still do it? Mainly to get more kills, because of greed and rarely because of accidents and the ever so popular trigger-happy syndrome.
This doesn’t just apply to Dota; kill stealing is a common occurrence in most games nowadays. But what separates them from Dota, is the reward of getting a kill. It’s not just the 100 gold, it’s the joy of having an additional increment on your kills and the pleasurable sound of hearing ‘GODLIKE’ when you reach a certain number of kills. A lot of people have a misconception that your skill is based on how many kills you made each game, and some people are desperate enough to do whatever it takes to achieve a large number of kills just to be called a ‘pro’.
With this information at hand, would you still commit this act? Some people would kill steal whenever they see an opportunity. Are you one of those people? Would you stoop down to their level just to get more kills?
To kill steal? Or not to kill steal? That is NOT the question.
It’s a choice. YOUR CHOICE.
Decide.

I agree completely hands down — Kill stealing is not cool. Even though a teammate of mine may say it was accidental, I don’t care. It ruins my strategy and may affect the whole outcome of the game. But I am fortunate enough to play with people who share the same sentiment as I do. In a situation where we are together as team, we don’t care who kills who, as long as we kill. But that is usually in the mid-late game already.

Personally I think it is our instinct to win that drives us to killsteal^^

I wouldn’t mind if it was already mid-late game for and ksing happening. However, it becomes important early game to get as much experience as you can. My philosophy in gaming is survival, so if it takes for me to attack a hero attacking my teammate, it’s either my ally is killed or the chaser…
But remmeber, don’t kill a hero that your ally can handle. However, once they ask, do what you must to get it, or else their effort is wasted.

If someone of my friends, or even me, accidentally steals a kill, then we apologise and let the one who lost the kill take the next one, if possible. But if we see, that we own the other team, then there’s a little bit of competition. just for the fun of it.
