You see this is exactly my point, it makes the game easier alot easier. The life bar thing is not meant to be there 24/7 as this would again remove an element of skill involved in Alt'in now and then.
DotA requires a certain level of skill to play well, but with dota keys it is like using roids to get on the same level as everyone else whos been playing the game for much longer.
also to add, it's a huge advantage against someone who doesn't have dota keys, even if the other guy is a total newb he would sort of be put on the same level with the other guy.
You know, irrespective im still not gna use them, the shortkeys in dota are not that hard to master. I still cant believe they are allowed in tournaments, why dont we give golfers guided golf balls? I know that is a bit much, but how long until it gets to that point when all hacks are allowed just because it makes the game easier?
im sure it does make the game much easier, jus like the golf balls above, but once again, your taking the bulk of the skill required out of the game.
how could you really call yourself a pro if you are using dotakeys?
And, does anyone deny it takes a big element of skill out of the game?

"Skill" is a word you use ALOOOOOOOOT. And i think you understand nothing of it.
What is "Skill" ? For you "skill" is Mastering random arbitrary Hotkeys for every Hero that were put there in the first place by peoples that never even played Dota like it is played today (Guinsoo back then in dota 5.x explained some hotkeys are still from the Warcraft 3 Hero Spells ...). That is skill ? Get real ...
I tell you what is skill : Skill is I choose a hero, you choose a hero, we go on a lane, and i beat you silly. This is skill. And this regardless of if I use DotaKey or if you don't use it.
Now don't come bullshitting people by saying "it's like using a maphack" because, unless you haven't read anything said by peoples here : You can already change the Hotkey DIRECTLY inside warcraft3, using customkey.txt wich is PROVIDED by Blizzard. Now then I go to a lane with you and I own you WITHOUT DotaKey but with my customkey.txt hotkeys, does it make me less skilled than you ?
Get real and stop trying to find excuses. What you're implying is simply a search for Arbitrary difficulty. Difficulty for difficulty. And this is not called Skills, it is called Masochism, exactly. And maybe this word is too complicated for you, it's a philosophical concept of German origin (16th century) try looking it up in a dictionnary.
Being skilled in Dota and winning (without cheating) is and always has been about : positionning, last hitting, denying; items and comboes strategy and, radar and map awarness and most importantly : Teamplay.
That was NEVER about mastering so called "skills" like Pressing Alt all the time like a moron or getting Carpal tunnel syndrome at 25 years old "because you masterize all the different stupid arbitrary hotkeys for 200 millions heroes in a video game nobody will even remember in 10 years". No thanks.
If i follow your reasonning, if blizzard or iceforg would have placed the Hotket for the 4 spells in impossible place like, for example, 4 keys that are at the 4 corner of the keyboard, it would be skilled to masterize this useless shit, and people that would not like it would be "less skilled" ?
In real life, the hand skills you are talking about are useful in a Circus, dude, Seriously. Not in a Strategy video game that is primarily governed by BRAIN and secondary by your hand.
The fact that you pretend that a noob using a program that shows him the lifebar find himself instantly at "almost" the same level as a pro proves that you're delusional. Either you don't know what is a Pro (or even a good player), or you simply don't know what you're talking about.

but there's no such thing as a guided golf ball =_=...you cant compare it like that...if you want to compare it your way, be it, golf tournaments should then ban all other equipments of the players from use except the clubs and balls provided by the committee which are all identical so that the game is all down to individual skills...

Correct me if im wrong here but did i say it takes skill out of the game? or an element of skill...you feel very strongly about this issue i can see, so make a new forum so you can post your comments and argue with yourself...
You know you sound like one of those guys who says he's gonna beat someone up on mIRC, it's easy to say you'll own someone in a forum heartaxe...
Posting your views on forums is about putting forward your views, not trash talking.
Now to everyone else, all the elements heartaxe mentioned play a very important role in dota and i never denied that. I am simply stating that Dotakeys takes a certain element of skill out of the game (the hotkeys, and life bars), which does make it easier.

Skill isn't about being able to press hotkeys on seemingly random locations on the keyboard, it's about being able to beat your enemy without any unfair advantage. Don't call it hack, or noob, or lack of skill because just because something is difficult doesn't mean you're skilled if you can do it.

You cannot change spell shortcut keys in customkeys, only basic stop, move, patrol etc...
Check before you speak...

Let me rephrase that:
Making something difficult for you doesn't prove anything.

who gives a damn? for instance, in a 5v5, one team could pick an unbeatable team of heroes, and win. However, its rare to get 5 people like that on the same team so the point is moot.
Quite frankly, i only disapprove of dotakeys which activate MULTIPLE things, not ones which simply rewire short cuts, like making the numpad items hotkey to opl;./ and the spells hotkey to qwer.
also there are keyboards which automatically do that, and come with extra keys just so you can make them macro 5 different commands, in any game from FPS to DotA.
A hack is a hack, if it changes the ingame experience its unfair, but hey, so is Backdooring and Ventrilo and about 20 other things.
Not enough people even know what dotakeys are for this to make a problem.

Anyway, just straight to the point of the topic: they can be allowed, changing around of spell hotkeys is just fine, but why bother when we can manage without them?

Changing something (from its original gameplay) to make it easier is altering the gameplay...and therefore in some cases cheating.
Didn't mean to rip you off with my previous post. Sorry.
Ok, im just gonna agree to disagree with you guys, you play your way and i play mine.

why the hell not, icefrog was probably too lazy to make it, but the fact that hes not banning it means its freaking okay to use
and hell, it helps so much

The inability to change the inventory keys within Warcraft III should not be viewed as intended programming design. Game play should be based purely on strategy and micromanagement, and not be based on being forced to use inconvenient hotkeys!
Is AutoWarkey/AutoHotkey a hack?
Blizzard can't really detect the use of AutoHotkey and even if they could, they wouldn't ban your account over it's use. This issue has come up a few times (in forum discussions) and here is what blizzard says about it: (http://www.battle.net/tou.shtml)
The use of key remapping software shouldn't get you in any trouble. Even Warcraft itself has a support for this, through the CustomKeys.txt and related guides for it (CustomKeysSample.txt and CustomKeysInfo.txt) found in your WC3 folder.
So using third party software that remaps keyboard bindings exclusively for Warcraft shouldn't be counted as "illegal" since the game itself has support for it.
