Should programs such as dotakeys be allowed?

I have had this arguement with a friend of mine for a long time. Should dotakeys be legal in dota games, or considered a hack?

I believe dotakeys is a hack as it changes elements of the game, it takes an element of skil out of certain heroes. An makes the game alot easier.

I dont use dotakeys and so it takes me alot longer to master heroes and ther different shortkeys placed by default on the keyboard.

Also some programs display your enemies mana and health bars above there head, im pretty sure thats illigel, but how long will it be until another concession is made which allows it, or any other mod to the game to be legal.

I believe if icefrog wanted dotakeys, he wouldve intergrated it into the game in some way by now, bypassing the need for the program.

It's much harder not to use DotaKeys and i have been tempted to use them, but still have not.

it's not illegal, in fact some even encourage it to be used not only in Dota but also in warcraft games...

I agree, it's like making groups out of units and hotkeying them to numbers. That makes it easier. Also for the health bar, that stops you from holding down alt and triggering anything in combination with alt like changing the colors on the minimap.

but did the rules ever mention that 3rd party programs are not allowed to be used whilst playing dota? if they didnt, i guess it's ok hahaha (but hacking also counts as using 3rd party program...)

on the same note, map hacks should be allowed.

I've played long enough where the hotkey usage comes naturally. Using the dotakey short cut actually messes me up since instead of pressing b for nether blast for example, i have to press w or whatever it is.

I use dotakeys for item keys and life bar. but i think the life bar use is a lil cheap.

Actually, there is only one reason I can think of to allow dotakeys, and even then, it's not really necessary... I play with a spanish version of WC3, which has all the basic hotkeys (move, hold position, stop, etc.), switched, so some of them (the freaking V and D. >.<), interfere with some heroes hotkeys...
Try playing Pudge without the D, or Balanar without the V, and see what I mean... Dotakeys would fix this, but there is another way for it...
Just change the binding on the keys of the game itself... Yeah, I know, tedious, but works...

i use dota keys to change the item hot keys. With item slot 1 bound to the actual #2 on the keyboard i can sheepstick, cyclone, etc etc with much better speed

i dont agree with it, ''it gives an advantage on players who dont have the program.

besides, theres are allready hotkey's.

lifebars isnt so bad. but using dota keys for invoker is just plain cheap. maybe using dotakeys on EVERY OTHER HERO to convert their base hotkeys to QWER

Check it out. I 've posted that sh!t long time ago.
Even though the Macro Editor(DotA Keys's) is illegal since it allows you to type multiple keys at the same time just by holding some cheap combinations.

don't complain about it.

there is a txt file in your wc3 folder explaining how to reroute manually.
customkeys.txt or something, if you look you will find it.

I think that is legal ... but anyways to the guy that had the spanish version dota keys isnt the solution since D is still Detener instead of dismember what u need is the txt file named custom keys u copy it to WC3 folder and thats it ..
