If I'm not mistaken I read somewhere that ANY over-time-damage skills that are going to kill the hero work. I too don't know much about this. It happens so rarely when you get to deny an ally.

yes, must be on a damage per/second skills..

by the way, can bloodrage kill?
i mean 20 HP /sec is good for the first 5 levels.. ^^

QUESTION: When can I deny a hero?
Answer: You can deny a hero only in the case, when your hero is really low HP (<25%) and is affected by one of the following debuffs:
Shadow word, Shadow strike (viper strike doesn’t count), Doom, or Curse of the Silent. If you succeeded in denying the hero, the opponents won’t receive any gold / experience from his death. However, the dead hero will still lose gold on death.
