Chapter 10

The panda with the power of the storm continually fired bolts of lightning at the undead pair, constantly exploding with every few shots. While he did this, Arc and Lucio started to channel their energy into one intense attack. To make sure this would work, Rexxar, internalized and felt the spirits of the beasts from deep within him. He called out to them, to ask for their power. Apparently it was granted as he gave out a deafening, earth-shattering roar that left the undead pair frozen solid in their tracks as the storm panda started spinning his hands around each other, forming a ball of compressed lightning energy. He blasted the two with an intense wave of focused lightning energy while Arc and Lucio let out a blinding ray of light that engulfed the whole area.

The white flash slowly subsided to show no traces of the undead pair.

"What!" Azgalor thundered in the dark tower, "where did that wretch come from!"

"Obviously from the panda that fell, Azgalor." Anub'seran answered indifferently as always.

"How could Leoric and Sapphiron be defeated at the same time! Bah!" Azgalor continued raging on.

I'd love to silence this bag of hot air but orders are orders... Anub'seran thought.

Anub'seran, a cold, deathly voice spoke in Anub'seran's head, I'm giving Azgalor one last chance. If he fails, kill him.

By your word, great one. Anub'seran answered with a hint of joy which was quite a sight as he was not one who usually showed emotions.

"I thank you, great tempest for your assistance but if I may ask, where did you come from?" Arc asked.

"I came from Mangix, a third of him at least," the panda started, "you see, before he made contact with the ground that would cause his death, he used his last resort and split himself into three lesser elemental pandas namely storm, earth and fire. The only problem is that we do not last forever and quickly form back to Mangix. But for us to have been able to save you, we would have needed my power the most. So earth and fire gave me all of their power and we formed a completely new panda being me, Raijin Thunderkeg although I'm afraid you will never see Mangix again as I cannot split myself into the three elements again; this pact is bound by eternity itself."

"So... that means we'll never see Mangix again..." Rexxar said as he bowed his head, "may the spirits be with him."

At this, all of them bowed their heads.

Rexxar then raised his head saying, "But let this act not as a distraction but further motivation for our objective."

The others nodded their heads and went off to the Well of Knowledge. But they arrived to see another obstacle: The most powerful of Azgalor's forces, the dreaded remnants of the Burning Legion, and there stood in the midst of them, was Azgalor himself.

-I'm sorry if this chapter feels short, I'll make it up with the next one.

Chapter 11

"We're far outnumbered, what do we do, Arc?" Rexxar asked.

"We can do two things, run or fight. Let me just remind you that despite that I am a dragon, they are the remnants of the Burning Legion and fighting Azgalor now is what we hoped to avoid until we acquired more information," explained Arc.

"But we've gone too far to run now!" Rexxar exclaimed when suddenly, the ice started cracking, the earth was shaking and heavy steps were echoing throughout the area but none of the Burning Legion had even made a move yet.

"What in the world is that?" Lucio wondered.

"This looks bad, let's move further away." Raijin suggested.

The group flew a little distance, enough to hopefully keep them safe yet be able to keep an eye on the Legion.

Then the echoing steps stopped, the ground was still and the ice stopped cracking. Then a voice thundered throughout the area, "Who dares to defile this sacred ground! Let the fools come forward and face me!"

There was a deathly silence at this.

"None shall answer, then none shall be left alive! You will all die here!" The voice thundered once more as the ice completely shattered and from the frosted waters came an enormous creature of armor and ice, much larger than anything they had ever seen, it was like a castle set in ice but this one was a living creature. It had two deep red orbs for eyes that could freeze any creature at the slightest stare. Furthermore, it held a great sword that could cleave Northrend itself into two.

At this, Azgalor defied him saying, "And who are you to think that you can even harm the Burning Legion?"

"I am the Titan of Ice, The Demigod of the Glaciers and True Ruler of Northrend! I am Skadi!" He exclaimed as he struck Azgalor's most powerful Doom Guard and cleaved it into two.

"I will not allow myself to be defeated here!" Azgalor exclaimed as he suddenly disappeared from plain sight, leaving only a trace of dark energy.

Skadi continued the massacre of the Burning Legion and made quick work of every single one of them. "The coward knows nothing of honor!" Skadi exclaimed.

At this the group of four were left in sheer awe at the power of the demigod. Truly, one such as this would not allow them safe passage to the Well of Knowledge but they had to try, for the sake of everything they care about.

"You must be the ones to ask for safe passage for I have already asked my question," Arc answered.

"But you must have dealt with him before, what did you say for him to have allowed you passage?" Lucio asked.

"Unfortunately, Skadi wasn't present at that time so I cannot give you advice on that matter. I apologize."

"It is alright, Arc," Raijin said, "Let me go first, then."

Raijin approached Skadi slowly when the Demigod took one glare at him and froze him solid. Lucio then called out, "Great Demigod! Please heed our plea!" Skadi froze him as well.

Rexxar approached Skadi and said, "We only seek safe passage to the Well of Knowledge, we do not desire to do any harm to it."

Skadi then answered, "Throughout my life as a Demigod, I have heard that line time and time again from different creatures from different origins yet none of them were ever sincere in the slightest! How do I know that I can trust any of you?"

"Simply because we are not those creatures," Rexxar answered calmly.

Skadi defrosted Raijin and Lucio then said, "Very well, I will allow all of you to pass but if I suspect any malicious intent in the slightest, I'll leave all of you in a layer of permafrost."

"Fair enough," Rexxar answered as he approached the Well of Knowledge and asked, "What are Azgalor's strengths and weaknesses?"

The Well bubbled up as this was asked and then it calmed down and a scroll floated onto the surface. Rexxar picked up the scroll and read it...

Rexxar, of Azgalor's strengths, he can cause fire to rain down from the sky, he can trap you in a deep pit of no escape and make it rain fire on you. He can also cause corpses to explode at will and he can easily escape. As for the weaknesses, he only has one: every time he uses these strengths on you, it takes a toll on his physical and magical energies. That is all.

Lucio approached and asked, "Am I truly the only one left of my kind?" The Well bubbled up once more and gave Lucio a scroll which read...

Lucio, you are not the last of the Elven Druids. Far in the west, in the region of Kalimdor...That is where you will find the answers to all your questions. That is all

Raijin walked up to the well and asked a very surprising question, "Who does Azgalor answer to?"

At this, the Well of Knowledge bubbled violently, as if it was going to break. But Skadi had not frozen them yet, in fact he too was surprised, "Never have I seen the Well react as such. What did you ask?"

"I only asked who Azgalor answers to..." Raijin replied.

A few moments later, the bubbling stopped and tranquil waters had finally returned to the Well but floating on the surface, was a black scroll...

Chapter 12

The mere sight of the black scroll made everyone, even Skadi uneasy as this has never happened before. Raijin carefully took the scroll in hand and felt a cold sensation emanating from the scroll go through his body. It was not an uncomfortable cold, more of an uneasy cold feeling. He attempted to open the scroll but it did not budge an inch. "The scroll emanates an uneasy coldness and I cannot seem to open it," Raijin commented.

"But according to the Law of the Well, only he who asked the question is able to open the scroll but he is open to share the answer," Skadi said, confused.

Raijin then shocked the scroll with a quick jolt of lightning but the scroll remained unaffected. Raijin then set the next jolt of lightning to a very high temperature, one that could very easily set ablaze whatever it would make contact with. It was risky but it was worth it. He shocked the scroll once more and it went ablaze.

But before anyone could react, they were startled to see the flame actually freeze. There upon the scroll was a frozen flame, an impossible feat but yet there it was right before them.

None of them could say a word. Lucio opened his mouth to speak but no words came out.

Raijin, frustrated at his fruitless results, placed the scroll on the ground and started blasting it at a very fast rate, shattering the frozen flame almost instantly. the jolts kept coming at the scroll, one after the other in quick succession.

At one instance, the jolt exploded with power, finally opening the scroll. At last, they could read the answer to that question.

Raijin approached the scroll and saw that it was blank, absolutely nothing was writtin on it, not even a single line.

"Nothing...there's nothing written on it," Raijin said as he showed the scroll to everyone present.

"This is truly a strange occurence," Skadi said.

"Perhaps this is an ill omen?" Lucio asked.

Rexxar paused to take a thorough look at the scroll and saw something slowly forming upon it, "Look at the scroll, something forms upon it," Rexxar pointed out.

Everyone else looked at the scroll, and looked back at Rexxar with a doubtful look.

"Are you well, Rexxar?" Raijin asked, "There is nothing here, nothing at all."

"Is the cold getting to you, my friend?" Lucio asked as well.

"Perhaps he's the only one who can see it," Skadi suggested, "It is not the first time that there is one who can see what others cannot."

"That may be what's going on with me," Rexxar said, "Anyway, I will describe to you now what I see. It is still slowly forming, as of now, I cannot make out anything from the lines that I see. But hold, it has stopped, no more new lines are appearing."

"Then you must take the scroll, Rexxar," Raijin suggested.

Skadi shook his head, saying in a booming voice, "Only he who asked the question may open the scroll. You may give it to someone else but only you can open it. Therefore, I suggest you keep the scroll, panda. Druid, keep the panda protected as much as it requires and you, beastmaster must keep yourself safe for only you can read the scroll."

Lucio responded, "But if only Rexxar can read the text, shouldn't I keep him protected instead?"

"Ah but if the panda is to fall, who will be left to open he scroll?" Skadi pointed out.

At this, the three only nodded to their responsibilities, thanked the demigod and headed back to Arc.

"Hold, before you leave, let me give you a gift to help you on your journey," Skadi said as he raised up a great block of ice that contained an impressive suit of armor. "Encased in the ice is the Shiva's Guard. It will protect you, Rexxar from harm."

Rexxar hit the ice with a mighty swing of his axes and split the ice into two and there lay before him was the Shiva's Guard.

He put on the armor, glowing azure with power of frost but he did not at all feel cold in it. In fact, it even seemed to ward off the cold winds of Northrend as he could not feel the cold anymore.

At this, they thanked the demigod once more and went on their way.

Back at the Dark Tower, there lay the corpse of a demon who failed one time too many. There lay Azgalor's lifeless body on the floor, Anub'seran right beside it.

Well done, Anub'seran. Perhaps now things shall take a turn for the better. Came the cold, unworldy voice of the Lich King.

"You can be sure of this, my lord..."

Chapter 13

You can be sure of this, my lord... things will take a turn for the better, for me. this was the only thing in Anub'seran's mind at the moment when that silence was broken by a voice as rough as Anub'seran's interrupted, "What will you do with this tower, Anub'seran?"

"Crixalis, I did not notice your entrance," Anub'seran replied indifferently as always, "This tower may yet be of use to us, in fact, it may be the only thing that pathetic excuse for a pit lord Azgalor has that we can make use of. I want you to call on our brethren and turn this tower into a massive labyrinth that by the time they get up here, there would be nothing left of them."

"As you wish," uttered the voice from the unknown creature as it disappeared as fast as it arrived.

"Have you any signs of the tower, Arc?" Raijin asked.

"As of now, not even my draconic sight can see through this-" was all Arc could utter as he suddenly dropped from the sky.

Raijin immediately summoned the power of the winds and guided all of them, especially Arc, to safe ground. Of what happened to Arc was a great mystery to all of them.

They looked around and saw vast, unblemished grasslands with no signs of hostiles anywhere. It was the perfect place to rest a while.

Back at the Dark Tower, the maze was being formed, it was so great that even they, the Nerubians who build it would have to burrow out as not to get lost and the one responsible for this was the one whom Anub'seran called, Crixalis who was still a figure enshrouded in mystery.

It's only a matter of time before everything in my plan comes to fruition. And when that time arrives, nothing, not even the Lich King himself would be able to stop me. thought Anub'seran as he burrowed through the very base of the tower, as if looking for something. This wasn't the first time he had done this but nobody knew of it, not even Crixalis, his most trusted agent. Although, whenever he did this, he burrowed deeper and deeper. At last, he was able to burrow right through the base of the tower without damaging it, he reached the end, where he could burrow no more.

He looked towards pure darkness and called upon a watcher to look into this area but no sooner did the watcher enter when it perished, as if being ripped apart. Perfect... I have finally found you.

Arc later woke up and shook his head, still feeling the effect of whatever had some upon him a while back.

"Arc, it is good that you are still alive," Raijin spoke out, "what happened back there?"

"I myself do not know... but I sensed a great disturbance before I lost consciousness. It felt like the very fabric of the world was being ripped apart... by Sargeras, the very lord of the Burning Legion. The very same demonic entity that almost destroyed this world once before"

"Sargeras!" Raijin exclaimed at the name that was known and feared all throughout Azeroth, "But I thought the spirit of Sargeras was in the Twisting Nether where it sought a vessel that would not break under his power!"

"That is true, Raijin," Arc replied grimly, "but something must have happened that is of great danger to the very world for me to fall unconscious like that. It only happens to me before an ill omen so I fear what is to befall Azeroth. By the way, where are Lucio and Rexxar?"

"They sought to test the power of the Shiva's Guard, the armor that Skadi bestowed upon Rexxar," Raijin answered as he pointed to the distance.

At this, Arc transformed into Davion and said, "then we must go and warn them of this."

Raijin just nodded then shuddered at the thought of Sargeras returning to this world...

Chapter 14

The looks on their faces were all of shock and disbelief. To think that Sargeras might return to this world...

"I begin to wonder how powerful Sargeras is," Lucio said.

"Lucio," Davion said, "we would have more of a hope fighting every single creature of the Burning Legion than we do against Sargeras."

At this, Lucio fell silent and his face turned pale.

"Then we have to move fast, before Azgalor is able to make a move," Rexxar suggested.

"Indeed we must, so let us go forth to the Dark Tower, it's not much farther, and I think I can fly all of us there now," said Davion as he transformed once more into his draconic form. With that, they were on their way.

"Is the Great Maze completed, Crixalis?" Anub'seran asked.

"Almost my lord; our arcanists are working on the finishing touches as we speak," Crixalis replied.

"Excellent work although," Anub'seran started, "I want to show you what I have been up to. I believe the time has come to reveal to you...my discovery."

"A...discovery, my lord?" Crixalis asked, puzzled.

"Follow me, and then you shall understand," said Anub'seran as he showed the way to the tunnel that he had been making. They went down through the surprisingly roomy tunnel and kept descending into the depths of the tower until they reached the end, where one false step would mean a great fall. The end of the tunnel was pitch black and although the Nerubians were known for beeing able to see well in dark places, this was one exception.

"I called you here for I believe you can shed some light on the situation," Anub'seran explained.

Without hesitation, Crixalis lit up his tail, which showed his scorpion-like features. He was nothing like the Nerubians at all when it came to physcal appearance but what he was capable of doing was strangely similar to what Nerubians could do, although not in every way. The light from his tail pierced through the darkness that overshadowed that place and for the very first time, both of them were finally able to catch a glimpse of the place.

It was a vast, nearly empty underground cave which was illuminated only by Crixalis. The end of the tunnel was a hole in one of the cave walls and they decided to crawl down the walls and explore the place.

The vast spaces seemed never to end, but apparently, the presence that had ripped apart one of Anub'seran's watchers had disappeared completely, there was not a trace of demonic power in the cave. In fact, this place would have been completely empty had it not been for the ancient ruins, which upon closer inspection, were found to have ancient writings that startled even Anub'seran. For what was etched in these ruins were no ordinary writings, no, these were Nerubian writings.

"We should bring torches to this place, or some other source of illumination, so that all of our brethren can see what we have discovered, my lord," Crixalis said.

"Yes, that is an excellent proposal, Crixalis. We mu-" Anub'seran suddenly fell silent. Crixalis was about to ask what was wrong when Anub'seran gestured for Crixalis to keep silent.

Anub'seran was startled, for he felt the demonic presence quickly returning, "We must get out of here quickly, he has returned!"

"But, my lord-" Crixalis said before he was cut off by Anub'seran.

"I'll answer all your questions later, but now, we must escape!" said Anub'seran in a panic, which was quite a rare sight. Using what abilities he had, Anub'seran moved even beyond the speed of light, turning invisible out of sheer quickness as he sped up to the tunnel entrance in the wall. Crixalis burrowed underground quickly and appeared behind Anub'seran moments later.

In a very quiet voice, Anub'seran said, "Flash some light into the cave, but just enough so that we may be able to see inside but not enough for us to be noticed."

Crixalis had complete control over his abilities and set the light emanating from his tail to that very level which Anub'seran indicated.

There, they caught a glimpse of the grotesque monstrosity whose very presence alone ripped apart one of Anub'serans watchers. The Nerubians were never known for their height and this demon made them look like nothing more but ants. It was a demon in every way but a unique one at that. This demon had reptilian features, almost dragon-like even. His deep black draconic armor that looked like it was forged from an ancient looked like it could protect its bearer from any kind of harm, and in its center was a great shield of an intense golden shade. They said that this was crafted by the gods themselves and it could bring its wielder back from the dead. They all called it The Aegis of the Immortals. It wielded no weapon, which hinted an affinity with the arcane arts and then it suddenly spoke out in a loud, thundering voice that seemed to shake the earth with every word.

"There is no use hiding from me," the demon said, "show yourselves unless you want to meet an untimely end at my hands."

Anub'seran showed himself standing at the edge of the tunnel's end and called out to the demon.

"So you are the one called Anub'seran... I did not expect there to be a Nerubian capable of things such as yourself," the demon remarked.

Crixalis now showed himself as well to this great demon.

"Crixalis, ever the trustworthy ally of the Nerubians, I can see why the Nerubians respect and treat you as their own," the great demon remarked once more.

"Excuse this one for the interruption but what is the name of which my lord goes by?" Anub'seran asked respectfully.

"I am called Neltharion, Anub'seran. Or rather, was called Neltharion, the Earth Warder, one of the Aspects. After that, the world came to know me as Deathwing, the Black Leviathan. Now, I am called Sargeras," the demon replied.

"I can see the tower, it is not much farther now," Arc commented, "brace yourselves, my friends. This battle may decide the fate of the world as we know it."
