noob mode

Posted: Sun Jun 29, 2008 8:37 pm

since dota is a un-noob-friendly game, i think i might have a suggestion to slow that down
when the game starts, you can type in -nb(then player number) and then others will get to vote (-yes or -no) if more than half of the players say yes (suggester, the guy that typed in -nb doesn't count) then the player will gain 'newbie status', which means that when he gets killed, he wont lose gold, the killer will get 1/4 of what he would normally get (in gold and xp)
also, if he gets a kill, he would get 4x the gold and xp
he would also be playing in -em mode while the others are playing normally
that way, you wont get mad at a noob for feeding, it would make dota more noob-friendly, and no one could take advantage of this since this is a vote and the suggestor (normally on the noob's team) 's vote wont count

Hmmm, dont really see excatly what you want although the idea of making it easier for noobs to play is good. Maybe you can make it in some other way. Maybe send a mail to Icefrog who can make a "noob-mode" or something else. Anyways, the idea is good.

Wouldn't work. People would exploit it by voting for the best player on the team as a noob so that he has a huge advantage. In fact, what would stop people from voting their whole team as noobs.

Even if there were ways to avoid exploiting it, think about the noobs themselves - how are they ever gonna learn if they're treated like babies the whole time.

Just not a good idea in my opinion.

Yeah, thats right.. it wouldn't work, and even if it did, the noobs wouldn't get better by getting special treatment..you get more DotA experience by playing with pros and taking their advice & tips

/vote Wink

had the same thoughts...think about if you are in a clangame and suddenly their team asks you to vote fot them cuz they got a "noob" in their team(very unlikely..but could happen) and also the "bubble" wouldn't help at all...they would just never learn it...what we need to make is a guide to help noobs fit in the game easier, and which then is build in the questmenu in wc3 (e.g. tips about choosing heroes, practices) but noobs which seriously want 2 play have to practice either with bots or in b-net where they usually get owned bcause they dont escape incoming ganks...

also dont like the idea...

but MAKE A DOTA STARTER GUIDE!!!

no i meant the whole game would vote
like if player 2 suggests player 4 is noob, then players 1,3,4,5 (sent) and 6,7,8,9,10 (scourge) would get to vote if they want him as a noob
also, i agree with the baby-ing thing, how about they just get 1/4 bonus from killing them? and they lost 1/4 of gold than normally when they die
and at anytime, someone could type in -unnb (player number) then they would vote if they want him as a non-noob anymore

I think this a bad idead. If the learn the easy way when they play real matches it would be hard.Even now going from em to normal is a huge diffrence,

hmmm, i agree but what i'm ultimately trying to say is to lower the bonuses of killing a 'noob' so ppl wont get mad at them for feeding, therefore bringing the whole team down,
besides, they can learn the more moderate way how to not die and avoid ganks

this will basically not scare newbies away from this fun game called dota

i guess its ok.

but it wouldn't work on pub games i think. if you don't know who you are playing with, it's difficult to trust them to give this kind of special treatment. and since you're playing with strangers on pub games, you and everyone would just vote 'NO'.

but if i'm playing with people i know, then this kind of mode is ok.

yep, and the command can be entered anytime they see someone overfeeding, and it can be stopped anytime too
some ppl may be cheap and want to win at all costs so they would vote no (for opposing team) but some ppl with sportsmanship that wants a clean game and help a newb (a pro for example) wont mind Smile
