Do you have a firewall? If so, you need to disable the firewall for Warcraft III (don't disable it entirely, you can disable the firewall for JUST Warcraft III)
Disabling procedures depend on the operating system that you have (Windows 98/00/XP Service Pack 1/ XP Service Pack 2, etc. So I would google search what service pack operating system you have plus "disable firewall"
If that doesn't work...
Do you have a router? If so, you need to forward the ports on your router to allow Warcraft III to run.
I know this good website that gives almost a step-by-step set of instructions for all router users. It's www.portforward.com, and from there you click on "Guides" at the top and then scroll down to the Port Forwarding section and click on the bolded link "Port Forwarding Guides by Router".
From there, you can search for the router provider that you have (I have NetGear) and then you click on the product number (mine happens to be WGT624). From there it takes you to a list of games and programs and such and click on Warcraft III.
Then it takes you to a helpful little step-by-step page that takes you through port forwarding.

I believe you disable your firewall. I don't own my computer personally so I don't really want to do that...and I really suck with computers as well..

Hi,
To be able to host games at BNet you will have to forward port 6112.
How to?.. meh.. I don't feel like explaining, typ in the make / model of your router at www.portforward.com

Back to top
you dont HAVE to use 6112. You can use ANY port you want. It is possible to change the port you host with in the Options menu of war3. Make sure you open up the port. and although theoretically ANYONE could host, it doesnt mean you should. You want a relatively fast computer and good iternet. My DSL and shitty ass comp ( i still have 512 MB of ram) mean that although i can host, i lag like a mother -bleep-

Hello, I am interested in this as well. I had already been on that site before, but there isn't my router on the list
.
Can you help me please?

Actually your port forward has to be 6112 - 6119. That's probably why some of you guy's can't run it because you've seen people say only 6112. Like the people stated above, portforward.com is a good site. Make sure you turn off firewall, if you found out firewall was on this whole time, then you probably don't need to change your port. If your firewall is off then you need to configure your port.
As for some of you mac user's. Many people assume that it's the same steps for windows. It's not because I have a windows desktop and a Mac laptop. Window's hosts fine but my mac is very different. If anyone finds out or knows how to host on a mac, share please

@koreANgel
correction, there is one or two types of routres that doesnt allow wc3 as a freindly so it might not work if you have one of those routes

@DiZ
Ooo, okay, didn't know that. Thanks for the info! ^^ But still, I don't think hosting is a necessity, although choosing who plays and who doesn't is quite useful.
@petros93
You can always get one of your friends to disable part of their firewall or to forward their ports if you can't.
