Before Posting a Hero Idea [Rules]

Posted: Sat Nov 01, 2008 3:22 pm

I say rules, really it is just a request to make my life easier in moderating this place. (Basically, I am lazy)

1 - Hero Idea Submission

If you plan on submitting (or have submitted the hero) somewhere in the post or title (submitted)[or variation upon eg. sub] say that you have submitted it (if I like it I will vote for its approval, If I like an idea in here I am unlikely to search for it in the long list of pending ideas if there is a good chance it wont be there and there is a very good chance of that)

If ever your hero is approved feel free to change the title to say (approved)

along with that if you submit the idea, in the thread commoners (aka anyone with an internet connection) are able to see, add a poll to the effect of:

Quote:
Do you like my hero?
Yes.
No.

this has added bonus that can be found [here]

2 - Joke Heroes

If your hero idea is a joke pretty please put the prefix or suffix [joke] in the thread title (with the brackets) so that I may ignore it until I feel like reading something humorous. unless it is a serious joke, meant to be funny but also a serious hero, in which case you just suffix/prefix with nothing or (sub) depending on submission status.

3 - Hero Remakes

a very rare sight in here but occasionally you will see one, you think you can make a hero that already exists in DotA cooler? well to start with it is obvious as you will have called the hero "Mortred - Phantom Assassin" but this shouldn't stop you from throwing in the suffix [remake] (again with the square brackets) hell you maybe have changed the heroes first name.

4 - the deadly sins

A - profanities

profane (ie sh!t - the sh!t hero of sh!tsv!lle) heroes will immediately be locked and the creator may receive a warning (just a boring little threat there)

B - Questions
asking the question "will my idea be approved?" or anything to the same implication will result in the big red shiny button being pressed, this nukes your hero idea into oblivion stopping it from ever being published.

DO NOT SCREW THIS UP.

If you ask for me to look at it (via a PM or IRC), you will get feedback eventually (if you send me enough PM's I will ignore you), if your hero is trash I will tell you so, you will be shot down of whatever perch you were on.

Ok, I'v read all the stickies but I still don't get how this works exactly. I think the hero generator is a great idea because it leads to a format that is standardised as opposed to ideas that are just all over the place. I also like the WYSIWYG editor, works better than the standard one. That said, I'm not sure I'm doing it right (u r doin it rong!). I have submitted the idea, but do I also have to post the hero in the forum for people to vote on? Or does it happen automagically once the hero is approved? And what if I want to look at the hero without editing it? I meant to edit the changelog but it won't let me do that. Just so you guys don't think I'm fiddling around while you're reviewing it. It even ended up back in "Drafts", after it was "Pending". Odd, no?

You post it in the forum to get feedback for improvement BEFORE you submit it using the hero idea maker! Also, once submitted the imperators (caspian) decides whether its good enough to make it to the front page.. As far as editing goes, same reason why u need to post it in the forum first!

Can someone please elaborate for me just a bit.

If I have a hero idea, I should post on these forums FIRST before actually submitting it through 'My Strategies" or should I just immediately submit it through the 'My Strategies' section?

Excuse my newbness but I am new to these boards. =)

Yes to the first or second... I think I'll go with the first to be safe...

either?

Forum Posting will not get it on the font page, but you can achieve balance before it gets submitted avoiding nukes.

Well I can't achieve balance at the moment since everyone is very busy with the Bard Challenge (ergo, my hero idea slowly dies from lack of attention)... I'll be patient. Though my paranoia leads me to believe I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks for the info btw.
