Aphotic Shield

If you cast Aphotic Shield on yourself and cast you 1.skill (forgot the name)will you just damage an enemy or heal an ally without damage yourself?

Yes, you can heal/damage the target and don't get any damage yourself.

The source of the damage is unimportant, as the trigger simply detects damage. I've done a similar shield ability at some point in the past, and it is not difficult to code. And it is flawless, as it can detect damage of any kind. So no need to think about exceptions unless it is direct life extraction (through coding... don't know how each spell has been coded by IceFrog). This ability is just too good. It not only makes you invincible, but also deals damage if it overpowered (too much damage absorbed). The only way to actually "counter" it is to avoid damaging Avernus until its effect wears off. Nifty.

As a spellmaker, I would give it a 5/10. Why? Because first of all, it lacks originality. *cough Defensive Matrix *cough Secondly, the Borrowed Time effect is so cheap. The spell lasts only 5 seconds, so the bonus life stuff is pathetic. Actually, I hate almost all DotA spells because of their low duration. I mean, be serious, a 3 seconds global silence? Yes, it can stop an enemy unit from blinking away but 3 seconds are not that significant. And god dammit, it is an ultimate. Poison Nova or Mana Void for example are much more effective.

Anyway, back to Apothic Shield, the special effect (SFX) again is cheap. I've used it as well for my Defensive Matrix (though the spell was slightly bugged, in the meantime I've learnt much more). Coding speaking, it is not difficult (though difficulty is not really a criteria). A beginner in spellmaking can make it. It is not an exciting ability, but it is so much better than those cheap Blizzard spells (Coup de Grace = Critical Strike, Blur=Evasion (except the transparency effect which I admit is pretty neat) etc.).

So, what I hate about DotA is the fact that IceFrog has super many heroes, but a lot of their abilities are simply Blizzard abilities with diffent names/special effects, and of course, modified stats. Again, this is the point of view of a spellmaker and not of the player. Because the Mistress of Pain is a really good hero, but all abilities are object-edited (created by Blizzard, only modified in the object Editor). It is really hard to please both the modder and the gamer.

Aphotic Shield the semi-perfect shield! The more the enemies attack, the more they attack themselves! Saved me alot of times in handicapped face offs. I like it its NYZE!

one of the best pushing heroes.... the borrowed time may last for 5 secs... but the cooldown is quite fast so u dont have to worry about dying... and with a.shield.... nearly invincible if used in a correct situation...

a pro avernus is really hard to kill i must say. proper usage of apotic and borrow time will really give enemy heroes a hard time to deal with LoA. plus the fact that both of those skills have fast cooldown time.

truly one of the scourge's best tank units

Should I cast it on the creeps?i mean if enemy heroes nuke it ,it will be quite useless,isn't it?

Well..

Casting Shield on a creep is a tactic. If the tower is attacking it and the enemies are near the creep, they will be damaged when it explodes.
