Drowning Chameleon

This is the fourth in my series of short stories depicting the death of certain Sentinel heroes. This particular one is that of Rikimaru. If you liked this one, then check out the other three.

Something very funny just happened.
I wrote out all of the story and suddenly my mouse clicked by itself and as I pressed backspace, the page returned to the Fan Fiction main page. How lovely.
I will be sure to re-write it when I have time, but as you can guess I am pretty pissed off. So I am going to o back to my internet-less house and write it out on notepad, then bring it down on a giga-stick. Never buy a "Genius" mouse.

Tuesday, 12:00.
They are watching me, even the ones who call me friend, watching me all the time, 'must think I'm up to something. Not that it matters anyway, I can disappear if I wanted to, anytime, anyplace, I can make myself gone from their eyes. Something funny is going on up at the river, the water seems to be deepening. Has went up 3 inches in the passed few days. I wonder what could be doing such a thing. Maybe a bunch of rocks fell in and forced he water upways, or maybe someone is using magic to increase the water depth. I'll have to investigate it a bit more to be sure.

Tuesday, 19:00.
I'm at the riverside now and it seems to me that this elevation is not by any natural cause. I smell death about this, that can only mean the Scourge. I have noticed the water has actually increase five inches! Indeed these are strange times, very strange. So much going on, so much to see and so much to do. Ofcourse nobody else can notice the change, only me, I'm unique, master of stealth, nothing gets passed me.

Wednesday, 14:00.
Reported my sightings to Furion, he sayed he would check it out. Still watching me, all of them, but they can't see me, it's my gift, my advantage, my skill and my superiority. To be able to assassinate anyone, at anytime without them knowing, it truly makes me the master assassin. I am the legendary Rikimaru, feared by all, seen by none, it is my motto and my life code. I plan to check out the river again at some point during the week, if the depth has deepened any then I will take matters into my own hands.

Saturday, 19:00.
'Haven't made an entry all week, 'cause there was nothing of interest, until now. The water level has risen to pass my waist, my waist! At first I was amazed, thinking that it was increasing by some kind of magical ability, but no. I have found the reason for the dramtic increase, it appears the Scourge have been hoarding huge blocks of ice, and then melting them. Under normal circumstances, the water would simply flow into forest and the water would have remained as it had always been, but some kind of magical barrier is blocking it. The barrier allows any creature to pass through, but the water seems to be trapped in the middle, the middle section of the battleground seems to be flooding all the way to the forest line. This is a very interesting situation, but what does it mean? If they are trying to destroy the Ancients with water it will fail, surely they know that trees drink water and wouldn't be affected by a flood in any way. Or maybe it something else, something worse.

Monday, 12:00.
Furion listened, he actually listened! He told me that I was in charge of fixing this problem. Finally he realised my capabilities and gave me a task that doesn't involve killing damn ghouls. I am heading up there now, with luck it won't be too deep, and I will be able to stand in it.

Monday, 14:00.
Well it seems like this task of mine is going to be harder than I thought. The water has came up passed my head and is freezing. I have made camp just outside the barrier and am waiting for an idea to hit me, nothing so far. I am sure I saw something swimming inside, probably a schole of fish.

Monday, 17:00.
Furion appeared out of nowhere. He told me he knew how to destroy these magical barriers and gave me some kind of magical stone, told me if I placed it at the bottom of the river it would absorb all the excess water and the river would return to normal, then he was gone. Sounds like a good enough plan, good thing I can swim. I am going to keep my things including this journal on top of nearby rock that surpasses the river depth. This should keep them dry and also ensure that no forest dwelling creatures eat them.

-How can this be? I, the great stealth assassin defeated in one blow. The pain is substansual, I believe my ribs to be broken. I don't even know what hit me. As I swam into the river, something huge wacked me with what I can only describe as a giant trident. I barely managed to dodge the next blow, and the current pushed me up to the rock I placed my stuff. There is very little distance between the water level and the rock. And I have caught a glimpse of the thing that hit me. A horrible fish creature that seems to resemble an undead naga. He can see me, that much I know.

-Why hasn't he finished me yet? He is just swimming around, watching me, but why? I can barely stand up due to pain in my ribs. Perhaps someone will fly past and I'll be able to hitch a ride on their back. Until then, all I can do is wait.

-He didn't see me! Damn you Jakiro! The damn dragon flew past and I shouted and screamed but when he turned he didn't see me! The water level is increasing and I am sure that when it reaches me the naga will pull me under and finish me. If I wasn't invisible I would be out of here by now, ironic that my gift should be my undoing. I am the legendary Rikimaru, feared by all, seen by none, it is my motto and my life code, and now my demise.
