Poor Leveling Up

Posted: Thu Feb 15, 2007 7:08 pm

Ok I am still somewhat of a beginner at DOTA but i still try to play and have fun. The only thing is I am having some trouble with leveling up. The first few go really fast and I gain as much exp as everyone else, later on however, about level 9ish, other people start to pull ahead. Some get to level 15 before i am at 10! At the end of a game i will frequently be in the high teens when other members of my team and the opposing team are at 25 already....If anybody could help that would be great. By the way it happens with every hero not just a few. Could it be that I just suck? Disappointed

Try practicing denying your creeps. i assume your opponents do well in denying their own creeps to make you level slower than normal.

Depends who you are up against. If your opponents are experienced already, they'd be smart and deny creeps. Denying creeps means killing your creeps right before they're about to be killed so that your opponent doesn't get experience. Try and last-hit kill enemy creeps as well to harvest gold quicker. It wouldn't hurt to go kill neutral creeps in the forest either. Finally, it's around midgame right? By that time, people would be trying to kill one another already. Try and get some kills of your own as well.

Also avoid constantly switching from lane to lane, or travelling through the forests without killing neutral creeps, since this takes time and you end up not getting exp.

hmmm... just deny and deny... avoid your enemy to deny too....avoid going on circles like going on other lanes...stay on one lane... only go to your base if your enemy is going too...

one way to get more experience is to deny your ally creeps. do this by timing your attack properly. Make your enemy stop denying. Do this by buying items that boost your attack speed. GOOD LUCK in doing these!

U have to learn deny(to make a deny is a little hard at first but, when u are a deny master u will have more lvl than anybody else)
Take into consideration that you are still a noob player and youneed to get a little better and when you do, you will be able to reach the other players Level.

Next to denying, creep pulling should also be considered. But that's mostly for pros, and I'm quite good at it if I use Kardel. Basically you start hitting your own creeps once their health goes in the red. Of course, don't get too excited coz sometimes you still need to time your last hits and denies.

dying frequently is another reason for level-gap, avoid DYING by keeping a safe distance form the enemy hero... stay behind your mage creep, you still get xp doing that [1000 AoE for gaining experience i think],,,

last hit is important to assure gold and experience... timing is the key in doing this... learn to deny as well, killing your own creep before the enemy hero last hit it that is,,,

EDIT:

oh i forgot... staying on the same lane with an ally hero is another reason, experience will be divided with them,,,

I also have a hard time levelling up, owing to the fact that I'm a bit of a coward. Haha!
