Writer's Block - DS Official Fan Fic Tourney Information

Finally, i created this thread

Now, a brief lesson about what this is and stuff...


GENERAL INFORMATION:

Writer's Block is an on-going fan fic tourney that will continue on forever (in theory). The theme for the fan fic will always change, but it will never be Dota related. The length is based on how long it takes for the writers to submit entries as well as how long it takes the judges to vote, although generally it wont last longer than a month. Winning will give you fame, prizes, and bragging rights and the judging will be done by official judges.



DETAILED INFO:

-minimum of 500 words, no maximum limit. also, no chapters please. if at all you have to, then do it in the same post and at the same time
-based on days and not months
-max entry count per contest: 8. if there are not enough participants, the due date will be extended.
-red, blue, AND gold members get auto-judging powers



JUDGING SYSTEM:

-Closeness to theme (15)
-Depth of character/plotline (15)
-Actual plot (10)
-Personal opinion and entertainment value, ie, whether you as a reader find it good enough to recommend others to read it too (10)
-Grammar/Spelling/Vocab (5)
-Creativity/Uniqueness/ Unique Selling Point (10)
-Use of language, rhetorical/stylistic devices, and portrayal ,ie, usage of allusion, diction, imagery, syntax, figurative language, parallelism, tone, accents, idioms, etc) (5)

70 point total. We will eliminate the highest score and the lowest score given by any of the judges and add the remaining scores up. The highest score is the winner. Rewards go to the top 3. Only the first place winner gets a sig or avatar.

After the judges eliminate the entries to the top 3-4, the readers can vote for the winner in a poll.

-winner of the previous contest can choose to become an honorary judge for the next contest or just participate again

Userbar + Avatar + gold = 1st place
Userbar + gold = 2nd place
Userbar + gold = 3rd place

gold scales from 3000 - 2000 - 1000

HOW A WRITER'S BLOCK WORKS & MAKING AN ENTRY:

What is the Writer's Block?
The Writer's Block is a fan fiction making competition named by one of the most ridiculous polls for coming up with a simple name.

When and how does it work?
It runs on a flexible time schedule controlled by me and influenced by everything, the theme is released in the first couple of days and then people are given about X amount of weeks to get their submissions in, after this time the voting from the judges starts. Once the top 3 have been decided, the winner is left for the people to choose.

How do I submit a fan fic?
To submit a fan fic all you need to do is make a fan fic that complies to the Writer's Block theme and post it in a separate topic. Having done that come to the Writer's Block thread and post a link to your fan fic.

How do I vote?
Once the top 3-4 have been selected by the official judges, the general people can vote in a poll placed in a new thread for the next competition and vote for the remaining 3-4.

3-4 finalists?
Depending on how close the scores may be, the number of finalists can range from 3 to 4.

I didn't understand what you mean by "besides anything above 10", can you explain this more clearly?

so were gonna base our judging on that 70-point criteria?
so when we judge something.. we copy-paste that criteria then give the scores?? i'm confused... <_<

yes, we will do the whole copy and paste thingy

and to clear the confusion...

say someone got this as a score:

-Closeness to theme (15/15)
-Depth of character/plotline (12/15)
-Actual plot (10/10)
-Personal opinion and entertainment value, ie, whether you as a reader find it good enough to recommend others to read it too (8/10)
-Grammar/Spelling/Vocab (5/5)
-Creativity/Uniqueness/ Unique Selling Point (1/10)
-Use of language, rhetorical/stylistic devices, and portrayal ,ie, usage of allusion, diction, imagery, syntax, figurative language, parallelism, tone, accents, idioms, etc) (4/5)


then their score would be 55. however, we get rid of the highest and lowest point values besides anything that goes over 10. so we eliminate the 1/10 and the 10/10. and then the persons score becomes 55 - 11(1 + 10) = 44. get it? and this is done to kind of balance things out more

and its done by numbers, not percentages so the "out of x number" doesnt really matter.

I thought were were eliminated the highest and lowest JUDGES TOTAL SCORE

For ex...

Shise - 60/70
Dohyun - OMG HAXORS HATE THIS 35/70
Rocky - OMG THIS ROCKS WTF! 70/70

We would elimated the highest and lowest score then tally up the rest. (like swimming and skating)
