Why doesn't dota become with a different terrain?
Posted: Sat Feb 17, 2007 5:13 pmI have never played with older versions of dota,but I saw a Frozen terrain and I thought it may have been cool if IceFrog makes a latest map with that terrain?When did dota become this ''green'' terrain?I mean when the ice terrain was stoppd to be used?I had loved that terrain too(even if I have never played multiplayer in that map

Yes, maybe a bigger map or other style of map. Coz we keep on playing on the same map. Anyways, it doesn't really matter. It's all about strategy.

ice frog changes map terrain and position every time the
version changes in number, meaning, every 4.xx 5.xx 6.xx the terrain will most probably change, 7.xx the terrain would probably change, not sure though

That would be troublesome and it would take time though. it's hard to balance out the lanes if you're planning to change (was i wrong)?

When I played the ice terrain, I feel so happy to know the greeny map was released (6.25 if I'm not wrong). That's human. Anyway if u wanna see other terrain, u can see: v5.84c, v6.03, v6.12, v6.25. (unfortunately u have to find them out side of ds.com) Anyway the latest is the best.

i would like to see like a change in terrain during the game making it more exiting... like cliffs appears or rivers, trees and stuff... after a certain amount of time and it changes again
that would be awesome, though it'll change the gameplay but i think it would be great!!!
maybe a new mode like that?

Yeah i've noticed that in several vids that i've seen...
The frozen terrain looked pretty cool from what i saw, so i might just go back and revisit it...mabye dl the map...then heat things up abit...

playing on ice would be nice., even the desert type terrain would be nice., and the red fiery ones for scourge... something new for the eyes...

The very first version of DotA has am icy terrain. The new terrain kinda bores me. Every version goes with the same terrain. Why can't Icefrog change it. If the terrain is a dungeon, I'll probably like it more.

If we want the most accurate terrain, this would be what it looks like. Also my dream DotA map.
The Scourge side would have snow, signifying the icy wastes of Northrend. The Frozen Throne, surrounded by a lake and 4 obelisks at the north, south, east and west shores of the lake. To summon the bridge to cross the lake into the throne the four obelisks must be channeled for one minute one at a time by a hero to get the obelisk for its side. The obelisks themselves are guarded by a dozen level 9 creeps. But the other side can channel it back. But to get there you have to navigate a cave inhabited by huge spiders and Faceless Void's cousins.
The Sentinel are located up on a mountain, Mount Hyjal. They have the ordinary tileset used now. The World Tree stretches up three times higher than Tiny can toss anything. It's surrounded by thousands of wisps who will detonate themselves at anyone who dares to get close to the tree. Not to mention the fact that the Sentinel formed an alliance with the remnants of the Lordaeron Alliance and the Horde so they will most likely be defending the Tree as well. The Sentinel are also allied with the creeps surrounding the tree so anyone from the Scourge who goes near will be up against elves, bears, storm crows, giants made of rock, walking trees, hippogryphs, chimeras, humans, dwarves, gryphons, dragonhawks, tanks, gyrocopters, orcs, trolls, wyverns, bats, and catapults.
The two sides are separated by an ocean since the world tree is located on the continent of Kalimdor while the frozen throne is on Northrend. That would mean that battles will occur on the sea. Battleships would guard the transports carrying the dozens if not hundreds of creeps needed to assault the huge bases guarding the ancients. The heroes themselves have their own ships. All ships are equal so its up to skill. There are no towers out at sea so you are wide open to any attack. When you finally reach their shores you will be bombarded by towers and siege units. This the World Tree/Frozen Throne we're talking about. Four creeps and a tower won't cut it. Once you pass these defenses you have to pass through the terrain that I described earlier, not to mention the incoming armies of the enemy composed of every imaginable unit that they can create. Then you have to assault the huge defenses that guard their ancient. This would probably be 5 times bigger than their beach defenses.
I'd love to play that map.

Sounds like playing the real TFT itself. Someone might even suggest a portal to the Outlands where Illidan now resides.
Anyway, i like the icy terrain on v5.84b. For some reason, you just see things better, esp those small heroes like troll, pugna. This grassy terrain thing strains my eyes a lot.
