What is the best way to get more hits in and why?

Ok, now you are playing an average game... You need to get more hits in so you have a choice:

•Cranium Bashers:
You need 2 of these to make a difference so for 2x bashers:
About 6440 Gs.
30% chance for a bash, +60 damage, +6 STR...
This takes 2 inventory slots but no orb effects...

•Eye of skadi
This is more reliable but is an orb effect and VERY expensive...
Skadi is 7050 Gs
+25 to all stats,
200 Bonus hp and 150 mana
Cold attack

•Diffusal Blade
This is reliable but limited and is an orb effect but is by far the cheapest.
This is 3000 Gs but needs to be re-done...
Purge
+10 AGI (10% IAS)
+6 intelligence

depends...if i was melee i would go for bashers in most of times, not terrorblade ofc ^_^
and i would go with skadi in all range exept for kardel were i would get bashers ^_^
ofc i get dif blade for terrorblade after skadi ^_^ for manta

Then it's just a matter of increasing your attack speed.

However, what really matters is your damage per second. Meaning the quicker you kill the enemy, the better.

If you look at the items you listed, they just prevent the enemy from escaping. They don't actually make you finish off the enemy faster.

I would rather get Buriza-do Kyanon for increased DPS.

If you really want to use those three items, fine. However, their usability depends on the hero you are using.

Those with innate slowing skills don't really need those items, with the exception of Cranium Basher.

Cranium Bashers are only recommended for those with fast attack speed, and those with an innate bash skill.

Heroes with Orb Effect Buff placer skills don't have use for Eye of Skadi, even if they are ranged.

Making multiple Diffusal Blades are a waste i you only buy them for the Purge charges. Better get Medusa instead.

To get more hits in you need a DPS/IAS item such as a Mask of Madness.

more hits? go for AGI heroes, get items that increases agilitity and there you go... another thing is that you should hit unexpectedly, using skills such as windwalk does the trick...

To get more hits, you either have to have a slowing effect, like Poison or Frost, or you have to have fast attack speed. Both can be attained through items. Skills are of course hero-dependent.

What makes the slowing/stunning items more powerful is that if you put them in heroes that already have the same skills, then they would almost double their effectiveness. Of course there are always exceptions, like Frost attack, which is overridden by Corruption.

So I would guess that you mean to use hero killers/damagers, since they're the best who will benefit from slowing items or attack speed items. Either way can be helpful, as you have to play a lot of games to fully understand how items work cohesively with hero's skills, and also how your items can affect your teammates. The general rule has been posted by Yukino.

(Getting more hits can sometimes be correlated to DPS, but they're still different.)

Edit:

For me, nothing beats the Frost effect of Eye of Skadi. That's also why it's so darn expensive.

1] Get heroes with slowing skills
2] Get heroes with stuns/disable
3] Get heroes with high MS

Eye of Skadi is hands-down the best option. But also take into consideration the type of hero that you have.

really depends. skadi + basher if ranged. Bashers for melee and difusal if heros are hard to chase.

When you say "get more hits in" I hope you don't mind if I interpret that as "Get more hits in before I die." Like yukino pointed out if you just want more hits just go for damage per second items. As for diffusal and skadi they slow the enemy down and give you a chance for you to flank them. However, they're still free to hit you and ult you as they please. If anything being slowed would probably just give them another reason to laguna blade you, death finger you, or serpent ward you. Bash stops them from doing anything, period. While they are stunned and can't cast spells your spells are already cooling down for another use as well as your hp and mp regenerating. However, all that is if you're melee or high dps melee. If you are ranged or int you definitely want to grabe the skadi. Diffusal is good but the item won't take you anywhere later in the game.

skadi + BoT if chasing is the problem... choose heroes that could pin opponents to the ground [naga, treant, heroes with stun]

I'll go with the Diffual Blade, one of my favrites. It's all about mana burn. Upgrade it to Manta, best for initiating a kill.
