Open beta is due to start sometime this month.
the there is going to be a pre-season starting on the 27th. (supposedly)
to give you time to unlock some stuff and join a clan before the ladder opens.

lol. I love how that flame war went. XD

Anyway, I've only played LoL's beta, and I must say, I like it a lot.

- A LOT more fast paced than DotA, not much 1 hour games (yet ^^

- Teamplay is everything. Not much heroes that can totally go 1v5 when fed.

- The graphics can get a lot of mixed reactions, but in my opinion, I like it a lot, because it's a lot different from how bleak/sad the DotA environment was (in my opinion anyway XD). The map just screams out HAPPINESS!! XD

- Heroes are uniquely made, although some look weak in terms of character design.

- Skills and items look much more interesting, adds more to the intelligence of the game.

- The reconnection system is absolutely lovely. Like the previous poster form Riot said, you can't play a new game when you've left or been disconnected until that game is finished, and it lets you reconnect! Definitely a relief when you get those fatal errors and other things.

I could post more, but I'm quite tired now so I can't think that clearly. By the way, this post is comparing LoL to DotA, so don't get winded up thinking I'm bashing HoN.

I haven't played HoN's beta, but I've already seen it in action. I LOVE the graphics, but that's the only thing I like about it, SO FAR.

Anyway, I hope both games do well, so there would be healthy competition out there in the future.

Im not sure if I Like that reconnection concept. If I have to leave for a legit reason, for an amount that would ruin the game for me, I dont wanna be forced to wait additional time. Im not really sure how to articulate this too well...Seems to forceful perhaps. I hate leavers but the idea of being forced to stay really pisses me off.

if you have a legit reason for needing to leave, you will not be able to play another game anyway.

if you are leaving for a selfish reason such as joining a premade with friends...
that is not a legit reason.
therefore you deserve the wait time.

no matter what happens, you still ruin the game by leaving.

Update:
Beta keys being given out by their facebook accounts.

LOL is now in open beta.
HoN's community continues to grow at more than half a million players.

I like Heroes of newerth more. I tried that and it was an insane gaming experience. Somehow, i still feel that Dota is much more 'comfortable' than HON. Though HON is a nice game but i think HON lack of some original aspects or ideas.
