Newcomer finding help on DotA

I am new to DotA. I had no prior experience in playing DotA or whatsoever. Thus, i need help in trying to play the game.

I am using lion and my friend taught me to use

impale>dagon>finger.

even so, i cant first blood an [easy]ai.

Can anyone teach me the basics or refer me to any guides?
Is there an easier hero to use for a newcomer?

Lion isn't the easiest, but also not the hardest hero to use. Getting Dagon on Lion is a pretty bad idea. Get items like Guinsoo for an extra disables, or Aghanim's Sceptre to improve your Finger of Death.

For beginners, I would suggest a hero that is pretty hard to kill and easy skills to use. Centaur is one of the best examples imo. Keep practising and you will get better pretty quickly.

Another suggestion, watch replays of pros playing to learn tricks in higher level play.

thanks for the help.
sorry to bother you, i can't seem to watch replays as i don't have older DotA maps. is there anywhere i can get the newer map's replay?

Impale -> dagon -> finger should be enough to kill at level 6. That is about 750 damage after magic reduction. Weaken them with normal attacks to about 600 or less HP before you combo.

Yup, Lion is quite outdated!

@OP
Whenever you combo, try to get the opponent to low hp first before attacking. Lion's Dagon + Finger is more of a finishing combo than a combo which should kill someone outright. To get the opponent to low hp, constantly harass him with Impale + Mana Drain

try using range heroes like kardel, his the best for newbie players.. try to master him first and be familiar with item build before trying a new hero. when u master one hero u can easily use other hero.. thats my expirience in playing dota.
but for me when im also a newbie i picked the awsome looking hero.. my first hero is davion. i try too master him in 1 month before using other hero

As for your hero, I think getting Dagon on Lion is a bad idea. Try a more basic approach for him, like Scepter and Guinsoo. And also try more noob-friendly heroes, like Skeleton King or probably Traxex.

On how to use lion, it's pretty simple. You can go buy the old stun,(hit hit hit), hex, (hit hit hit) followed by a finger.

Support and awesome lane harrasing would be impaling a hero followed by mana drain.

Items like dagon are BAD BAD BAD.
Get simple items like 2 bracers, bottle perhaps if you know how to use it properly, phase boots followed by aghanims then maybe guinsoo. Extra items like skadi, desolator, orchid all go pretty well too. however you must remember NEVER to buy a dagon

Dagon on Lion is NOT a bad idea! But it is for inexperienced players. As is Lion himself. Leoric is a better starter hero, I agree.
