wht items make zeus powerfull???

In earlier stage of the game, get a void stone.. this will help u a lot so as to keep your mana high enough to harass your enemies...
After that, rush for Soul Booster (and make it into Agahnim later on)
In the late game, you should get a refresher orb as your enemies have gained massive hp and your one-time Wrath only tickles them in this stage.

To make it short, this is my usual build for Zeus:
- Void Stone (get 2 if necessary)
- Agahnim's Scepter
- Refresher Orb
- Guinsoo / Eul (optional; it's a must if the enemies keep targeting you or if you play the role as a supporting hero)
- Power Treads/Boots of Travel

the remaining item slot depends on the situation...

My Build is:

-Boots of Travel (Escape/Chase/Defend)
-Null Talismans (Basic Stat Boost, replace with other items later)
-Refresher Orb (Rush this immediately or after a Soul Booster)
-Soul Booster (Turn into Aghanims, for better INT and ulti/ Or Bloodstone, will give you more mana regen and bulk, and some lives)
-Linken Sphere (Basic Stat Boost, go after Refresher and Aghanim/Bloodstone)
-Eye of Skadi (Just the stats is important)

DON'T GO FOR MAELSTROM!!!! YOU DON'T HAVE EXCELLENT ASPD

drew's strat 'electro-magnetic zeus' is good, however personally i feel what ''dep_violator'' said in the comments makes some sense. Aside the fact that he sounds worked up.

In early game get RoB + clarity potions, lvl up lightning bolt/stats, spam when u r lvl 3/5 (lightning bolt lvl 2/3). Keep spamming until enemy hero is dead/retreats. After that lvl up static field. I think u can take arc lightning during mid game cos by that time there will be big creep battles.

Items:
BoT
Linkens
Guinsoo
Aghanim's scepter
Refresher orb
[optional item]

Hand of midas? Hmmm...but u can spam yr arc lightning so quickly. Kills creeps easily. Isn't that better?

Zeus isn't item dependent to become powerful he all he needs is lots of mana. If Zeus were to have unlimited mana then Zeus wouldn't need any items execpt for maybe hp items.

My item build for zeus is:
Arcane Ring - Meka - BoT - Soul Booster -> Agahnims - Guinsoo :P

In my opinion refresher is useless since his 2 spams have very short cooldowns. I dont get any items that upgrade his attack damage (apart from Guinsoo) since i spend almost all my time at max cast range, which is HUGE, spamming zeus's low cooldown nukes. For the same reason i don't get Guinsoo till late (im at max cast range so have time to run if the enemy starts chasing). Dagon is a sub-par item all round esp for zeus when you simply don't need it with his quick cooldowns and massive cast range.

One last thing. I find that item builds based only around zeus' ulti are really not effective at all. His ulti is just for killing the guy that gets away on 200 hp every so often. the cooldown is far too long to base an entire build around it. :P
