How to pwn heroes if you are a 'team player'?

At the end of every DOTA match, I usually end up having the most contradictory stats. I usually take out 5 towers, but have a 1:5 hero kill ratio (or worse).
When the game starts, I usually buy items that have a positive aura that is useful for aiding creeps take out towers: Ring of Basillus, then Mekansm.
I was wondering if it is foolish to invest in some auras (say Meckansm) when the game begins, because I could buy items like Claymore, or Sange and Yasha?
We usually win because we can infiltrate their base, but I have appalling kill ratios.
Any help would be appreciated.

It doesn't really matter as long as you win the game.
Got 3-4[5?] with Medusa last Saturday. But we won.

That's why heroes have different roles in a team game. You really can't expect everyone to hero-kill.
And yes, in DotA, the end does not justify the means.

No I mean whatever you did during the game, doesn't really matter, as long as you win.
And the end of the game doesn't justify how good of a player you are, but how good of a team you have. (Different if 1on1 of course.)

yeap.. cant agree more... might be self defending cause im usually a team player, especially with vs (always winds up with 1-3 : 7-(duno), i shouldnt swap 1 and tank 4 huh...)
anyone remember the tinker impossible win done by virot2's manta tinker? their team was 1x - 7x with 3v4, but they still won cause manta tinker focuses on pushing (he raxed all 3 lanes himself), while the enemy team focused on killing and farming (they all had godly items, even drow had heart)

Sure KS alot a team player pudge kill all the time to help the team. I'm not joking but it actually helps the team, his job is to go around every lane to kill every hero instead of farming so in order to earn some gold he needs the kill go so he should get the kill. As a result of that he'll make all the opposing heroes under leveled by killing them alot.

Teamwork? Like '1st QoP sonic wave to clear the creeps, then Lich chain frosts the unlucky heroes, Bloodseeker does the finishing chase' sort of teamwork? U really need a lot of chemistry in the team for that. Still, it's better to focus on defeating the enemy ancient 1st.

I've seen the strat. That was a good one. He's really a team player.

For some heroes it doesnt matter how many kills you have,but how much did you help your team.For example Treant Protector;s job is to suppot friendly heroes and not geting the kills.He can get a kill and finish the game with 20-0 but it is not his actual role in the team and most important it wont be easy.
For other heroes killing is more important that supporting.Bloodseeker isnt meant to support; he is meant to finish off whatever is left or to kill any1 unlucky enough to meet him alone.This is his job and it really helps the whole team not just himself.

tanks...take+deal damage
nukers...deal fast damage
chasers...finish lowHP heros
Then there are supporters unsung heros of the battle field who only glory comes from making the 5 different heros a team.
BTW. Dizzle wut hero did you put these items on? I can tell you wut to buy better if you let me know the hero.

My team overpushed, causing a mega-creep wave and I was never pushing.
