Effective micromanagement
Posted: Tue Apr 03, 2007 5:28 amWhat is micromanagement?
To manage with great or excessive control or attention to details.
What are the things in DOTA that needs micromanagement?
1.Chicken
2.Characters with illusions (Naga Siren, Phantom Lancer etc . . .)
3.Characters with summon skills (Banehallow, Syllabear, Rexxar, Morphling, Spectre etc. . .)
4.Using summon & illusion items (Manta Style, Necronomicon etc . . .) and/or
5.Controlling another player’s character.
(If a team member quits during a GG or a Battle.Net game)
What are the advantages having a good micromanagement skill?
1.Out level your opponent
2.Confuse your opponent
a.How to out level your opponent
-Harass, kill & deny
Supposing you are using Banehallow, you can begin by attacking your opponent as far as you can and at the same time killing his creeps & denying your creeps.
-Harass, kill, creep pull & deny
You can do this by harassing the enemy with your summon/illusion at the same time denying your creeps, killing his creeps and with accurate timing pull neutral creeps from the side lane and let your creeps attack them.
b.How to confuse your opponent
-If you are using Meepo or Ezalor, you can attack other lanes or farm in other lanes by moving your extra character there which will make your opponent thinking.
In this kind of situation, he will be more defensive and will be an advantage in your part pushing in all lanes and possibly neutral creeping.
-If your enemy is wise enough, it will be annoying for him if you have an illusion or multiple illusions too, because he may be hesitant to risk his skills. Afraid that he might use it (especially if it’s a single target spell) only to an illusion which will cause a waste of mana.
How can I be good at micromanagement?
1.Practice
2.Concentration
3.Know your character/hero well
a.Practice
Of course, practice gains experience and practicing makes perfect. It will only be a matter of time.
b.Concentration
It doesn’t mean just concentrate, in anything you do (including playing DOTA) you also must have dedication.
c.Knowing your character well
In other words, mastering. How?
You must know how long is the cooldown of each and every skill or item appropriate for your hero.
Why?
This gives you timing and a good sense of game play, or setting up a game play such as, setting up a gank or knowing when to retreat and attack.
What are the basics of micromanagement?
Basically, you can assign a specific number to a second character (such as a summoned bear), or if you are pushing in two different lanes, use the minimap.
Are there some disadvantages in micromanagement?
In the beginning yes, because you are at the stage of practicing, knowing and possibly experimenting your own game style and strategies.
Final words:
A player with a good micromanagement skill in this game would have an advantage the whole game.
At the start of the game you can initially let your chicken spread sentry or observer wards around the map planning ahead against the opponent.
Just imagine if all team members are good micromanagers, you can have ten or more members in the game.
Heroes with summons/additional characters
Banehallow – Wolves
Syllabear – Bear
Ezalor – Wisp
Warlock – Golem
Meepo – ‘Divided we stand’
Furion – ‘Force of Nature’
Heroes with illusions or the ability to summon illusions
Chaos Knight
Naga Siren
Morphling
Spectre
Phantom Lancer
Not to mention if each one gets a Mantastyle, or maybe a Necronomicon.
Remember:
This game is not on how many times you get ‘Beyond Godlike’
but how can you destroy the enemy’s ‘Ancient’.
It’s the pushing power!!!

Prolly the best Micromanagement practice is Ladder Warcraft itself.

Indeed. Playing the original warcraft makes you get used to microing. Unfortunately, I'm not that good at ladder games...
