Hey, i have been in and out of Dota for a while, never got much experience, now I'm actually really getting into it. But I do have some questions, well not that many, but meh.

1. How do you get lumber? (it is neccessary for particular items, such if you want to get life steal)
2. How does lifesteal work?
3. Orb? I have never seen a definition of orbs and how they work, stack, etc.
4. Attack speed, do characters start with the same attack speed or is it based on their initial agility .
quote drew " Agility point = 1% IAS (increased attack speed)." So for using items which increase attack speed by percentage, this is based on original attack speed, or present attack speed.
5. Items stacking, do all items stack, or how does this work . e.g. burizia (spelling) give you criticals, and as far as I know, having 2 or more does not stack the critical, it just increases ur percentage chance, 2 buruzia's = %40 critical chance. etc.
6. Chickens? , frustrating to get used to, strategies on using them? and do we all use them.
7. Early Game Items? Do we all use level one/two recipe items, and individual items when we start, and which ones do you frequentely use, (I know alot of people always go for boots of travel), and depending on classes (intel/agil/streng/melee/range)

1. lumbers on the item means resources

you can't buy them . all you need is to complete all the item necessary for the item


2. lifesteal heals you depending on on you attack and the item's percentage of life to be stolen (mask of deat steals 10% and satanic steal 23% of the damage) better use the search tool

3. use the search tool for this!

4. it increase depending on the agi gain of the hero

5. not all item stacks use the search tools or look for the discussions on items (forgot the title)

6. it depends on teaam plays we bought only one chicken and to be use by all members

7. this depends on the player

1. The lumber means that they combine automatcally when the requirements are purchased.
2. Lifesteal works when you attack, you get life.
3. They are buffs on attacks.
4. Heroes don't start with the same attack speed, attack speed dapends on the Agility, skills/spells and the items.
5. Items with the same effect don't stack and some orb effects.
6. Chickens are couriers of items which can use spell items if they have mana
7. You can get which ever item you want as long as you can afford it. Good starting items are boots, the requirements for Mekansm/Vanguard/Hood of Defiance.

you don't get lumber. just complete the necessary requirements and you'll automatically get that item.


example :
you have 10% lifesteal and 100 total damage per hit.
per hit, you get 10 HP restored, since 10% of 100 = 10


orb effects are special effects that go with your normal attack. such as lifesteal, maim, frost attack(when you are a melee hero), chain lightning(from mjolnir and maelstorm), corruption (from stygian desolator). note that you cannot have 2 orb effects at the same time.


each character has a different BAT, in other words, base attack speed. the lower your BAT is, the faster you attack. YOU CANNOT INCREASE OR DECREASE YOU BAT, but you can increase your agility instead. magina has the lowest BAT in all the heroes in dota. ask somebody else for a computation for attack speed.


DO NOT buy 2 burizas, nevermind burizas when your hero has a critical skill. some items don't stack, such as orb effects, evasion, etc...


use it to buy items. nuff said.


if you have lots of money, buy these :
rings of regen, bracers, tangos, boots(1 on 1 fight only), basilius etc...
or instead read fwii~'s guide on early game items.

wow, thanks heaps, that made me very happy, and thanks for the links those are really good.
One more question, i was told that you get bonus xp when defending your tower, is this true.

No, you get XP from killing creeps, heroes, and towers.
