My Kardel keeps getting spanked; am I missing something?

Hey guys,

I just started playing DotA yesterday and I like it a lot. Kardel was the first hero I picked and I've been playing him since. There's just one problem: he keeps getting his butt kicked.

A player in a game advised me to check this site out, so I tried different Kardel builds, but he still dies really quick. Whenever I face another hero 1-1, I die, period. In the beginning the difference isn't that big, but after a few deaths I'm a few levels behind and I get swatted like a fly.

It seems Kardel should be a pretty strong hero, from what I read on this site... so I was wondering if I'm missing something here.

As far as his skills are concerned, I usually build him like this:
1) Take Aim
2) Headshot, or Assassinate whenever it's available
3) Scattershot

Any hints/tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!


P.S. Please refrain from posting replies like 'noob', 'omg u suck', etc. I know bloody well I do, that's why I'm making this post in the first place

practice period...dota is team game, and if youre palnning to 1v1 a hero make sure the advantage is on your side, can you attack faster than him? Item dependant also is kardels weakness. practice him find the best items for the enemy and research heroes skills.

I agree completely with what flipz said. I'd also like to say that to get the best out of Kardel, harassing the enemy well is something you should practice.
For me i find that
-take aim
-headshot
-assassinate
-stats
works well. I recommend scattershot when you are in dire need of cash.
Ohter than all that, the key to being a sucessful Kardel is to stay back and make use of his high range. The key to surviving with Kardel is to again stay back as his high range lets you keep a safe distance from the enemy. Now, 1v1 situations... well what flipz said is right... but i'd suggest avoiding 1v1 situations since Kardel has low hp... And as for being swatted like fly... just be aware of which heros are missing from the lanes and keep some healing items with you. i suggest tangoes of essification for early game then a "full" bottle for the rest of the game for near instant healing...

kardel LACKS HP. that's why he is food to most heroes that can chase very well(blink, etc.).

buy a dagger of escape to prevent more deaths. lothar's edge can also do.

Well..see, you didn't really give that much for me to work on. Your post suggests that you think its your skill build is whats causing your problem. You didn't list what you do in lane to lane and what items you usually get. If its your skill build I recommend Scattershot/Take Aim. Scatter Shot because its one of the best farming tools (peircing damage=150% damage to creeps) and Take Aim for surivability, (the enemy has to move up to take a shot at you). Perseverance/R.o.B maybe to suffice for mana issues and the regen is always appreciated. Other than that...

I recommend studying each/most of the charactesr in DotA or at least get familiar with them and know what skills they have, and if they can do a lot of potential damage to you. Lets say you are paired up with Blood Seeker. He's bait to you early game because hes just weak. So you should play agressive knowing that you are safe. If you are up against nukers such as Crystal maiden and/or Lina. You know you should lay back and abuse your "Take Aim." to get shots on the creeps. Yea, I think the best thing I can suggest to you is to KNOW YOUR OPPONENT. if you do u can know what to do on 1-1 situations.

i really recommend lothars. it gives him a great boost in attack and that windwalk is your hey to survival. also an eye of skadi helps ALOT with his hp problems. it will also allow you to spam scattershot late game, as well as chase heros with slow.

keep in mind that kardel isn't great in 1v1 situations so try to steer clear of them. due to his high range, you're the hero that stays behind the battle and fires from afar in safety

I completely agree with The Freshmaker. He's the one thats doing damage while keeping himself safe because Kardel has the potential to do a lot of damage. But at the same time he can't take a lot of damage either. And Lothar's/Eye Of Skadi are both very nice items. I also recommend them. Except one thing. Don't get reliant on Lothars! If they buy Wards/Gem YOU ARE SCREWED. if you wait until you are red health, press lothars, and it turns out they can see you YOU ARE DEAD GG. so even tho you have escape mechanism. Keep on being cautious.

that's why i promote dagger of escape.

recommended build :
1. skadi
2. BoT or power treads.
3. butterfly
4. satanic (no more HP problems)
5. guinsoo (if you want to spam assassinate and scattershot)
6. radiance

these items are not in order. i prefer rushing radiance in the start with bracers for survival. after radiance buy boots or power treads, then start farming for your skadi. then pick any of these for the next item :

1. satanic (if you prefer survival)
2. guinsoo (if you prefer skill spammage)
3. buriza (if you prefer fast kills)
4. butterfly (if you need speed and evasion)

next items depend on the current situation.
example :
there is a heavy nuker. heavy nuker = int = low HP. leave the tanking to your teammate. buy damage items to take out that nuker FAST. or buy HoD if you think you are the target

there is an enemy DPS hero. answer = butterfly. out-DPS him and the added evasion is great.

you'll learn more item combinations when you practice moar..

hmm, kardel was the first hero that i used too, and i liked him alot. his ulti is really noob friendly since it has a realy long range with a very high damage.

just like you, i use the:
take aim (1,3,5,7
headshot(2,4,8,9)
assassinate (6,11,16)
scattershot (10,12,13,14)
for the skill build. however, item build on kardel is crucial because he does have the ridiculously low hp probelm

i would recomend:
Boots of Travels
Sange and Yasha
Heart of Tarrasque
Eye of Skadi
Monkey King bar
(Optional, varies on the situation) Sometimes (usually very rare cases) you may need another Heart of Tarrasque, or maybe a linkens sphere for more stats. if not, you can opt for a hyperstone for added attackspeed, or you can get a Buriza Do Kyanon for sick damage.

with that you should be able to pwn with him.

Satanic if you dont want Eye of skadi

You know my friend his name is Michael he is an average player he plays moonfang and kardel well in both heroes he play he can farm aghanims skadi butterfly in 1 game.....yes....thats why he is good =))

So dont be ashame in using Kardel he is an excellent farmer

This what my class batch use =)) well i dont like it but its ok.

Just Rush Lothars and buy 2 Bracers...

Try neutral Creeping...and i also agree that you must stay away from Battles.. if you still don't have your core items don't try killing heroes by yourself.. stay with an allie when killing heroes and shot from afar..

if you want to max out scatter shot early. try buying Arcane ring...

Skip Scatter shot, Learn headshot and take aim alternately, and learn Assasinate whenever possible. Kardel needs to buff up on items in order to become capable of taking on a hero 1 vs 1.

You can go Sange and Yasha + Skadi + Travel

or you can go

Sange and Yasha + Mkb + Travel

Kardel lacks lots of hp. You need a Skadi asap. Then a Bfly after a Heart. Then you own.
