I am a noob at Dota
Posted: Sun Jun 03, 2007 7:39 amHello all, yes i am a total noob
. I started playin dota mabye 3-4 months ago, and so far my only hero that i can get any other hero kills with is Magina the Anti-Mage. I have a couple non rl friends that i play with over vent, but none of them help me very much, but they do yell at me a lot. As a matter of fact i just got yelled at in a game i joined mabye an hour ago. I had the priestess of the moon chick and could not do anything right. Anyway, i am a noob at dota and really want some help, whether it be what items to buy for a great starting off character or the DoTa terminology (A teammate kept telling me to lb and i didnt know what he was talking about). My friend that i play with over vent told me that for magina i should buy 2 bracers and 2 cb's and late game a butterfly. So that's what i do every game with magina. Help will be appreciated

well...its normal, but dont play ar games if you started playing recently. play ap. well, your magina build is good, you can add vanguard. but u can also try AI maps for practice, an dpick heroses taht are noob freindly. sniper, zeus, etc. dont pick pudge and pristes, they are for pros. and dont pick late game heroses, naix, troll, void ,even magina, but hes ok early. for ow stick with int heroses.

Yes, when i started playing i randomed sniper and it was easy, its good to use strategies on this site for heroes if ur a first with em. Ive played almost every hero at least once now and i can roughly know what to get with them. I have my own builds for some heroes though. Like Pudge, my absolute favorite hero! You have to understand what items are good for when too, like that you need a hood of defiance against casters mostly, or a bkb, or a linkens...anyway just play more and you will get the hang of it

If you search for DotA on the Internet, it mentions that DotA has an extremely steep learning curve, so don't worry. You're normal. At least you are good at one Hero. Back then, I got pwned as soon as I was on the battlefield. Just try Heroes with more Passive skills and you'll be fine. Examples: Dwarven Sniper, N'aix, Bloodseeker and such. Have fun!

I guess you'll need to practice a bit, especially with AI, familiarize with beginner friendly heroes, like sniper, Skeleton King, and bloodseeker, then find out the basics of map control, like last hitting, denies and the moment on when to retreat, attack or backstab. memorize all items then check out a hero's build/strategy, you can find them on the strategy page in this site, it'll help a lot
good luck!

familiarize all heroes first and the items. then play with ai and win the throne. then play with lan with other's and practice other stuffs like last hitting and denying.
