The Value of True Power
Posted: Fri Dec 14, 2007 8:00 amChapter 1: Tragic Beginnings
Our story starts in a small elven village located by a shore isolated from the rest of civilization. Here is where our young upstanding hero by the name of Sven lived alone. His parents died of an incident at sea when he was still a small child.
Sven was taken in by an old elven druid by the name of Syllabear who raised Sven as his own. Sven would usually go hunting in the woods with the druid as he taught him the basics of combat and hunting until one day...
Everything changed.
The druid went out one day into the woods and left Sven a letter that he would be out hunting a while.
Sven had just read this letter when he heard a commotion outside so he went out to investigate it.
At this moment, Sven stood still as he saw the man he looked up to as a father was laid there in the middle of the vllage, lifeless as the rescue party brought him in.
Sven: What the hell happened here?! Captain Magina, answer me!
Magina: Well, when we arrived at the scene, he was already lying there with his trusty bear. We think that he was ambushed by someone or something. He can't have died of any of the creatures there in the forest, he's a great hunter!
Syllabear: S...Sven, come here boy...
Sven: By the light, you're alive!
Syllabear: No...it's over for me boy, but i want to tell you something...I have something for you in the house...it was supposed to be for your next birthday...but I guess...
Sven: ...He's not...what I think he is...is he?
Magina: I'm afraid so...
Sven: Damn it, Damn it all!!!
____________________________
Sven: Now what was it that he said he left me? He said it was in the house...Hm? What's this, a great blade of sorts, ah, there's a note on it. Let's see now...
Sven, I'm leaving this blade to you, it's a great blade I picked up when I fought with a demonic felguard a long time ago. I was never able to wield it, I preferred tossing my axes than melee combat. But that's what I trained you for Sven, it would all build up to this day where I would grant you this blade for your own personal use. Give it a name, I heard it's one very special blade.
-Syllabear
Sven: I see, thank you father. I will name this blade...Justice.

Chapter 2: The First Step
*I made the story such that Magina isn't blind and was still going through the early stages of being a demon hunter and Sven is still feeling the effects of the dark demon magics used on his kind long ago.
Sven had prepared all he needed for a long journey ahead should anything unfortunate happen. He had one goal in mind...To slay the one who killed Syllabear. Though he knew that he had to obtain more power to defeat the one who had slain his mentor and father.
He set up a boat to sail to wherever fate may lead him to as he just might obtain the power he needed. Just as when he was about to leave, he heard a familiar voice...
Magina: Where are you going, my friend?
Sven: To obtain the power I need to defeat the one who killed Syllabear.
Magina: I see, count me in then. I'm already prepared to go and Aiushtha has taken over my place as rescue captain. She's much better for the job than I am anyway.
Sven: Why do you want to go anyway?
Magina: I just want to see other places than this small village where we have lived in for decades.
Sven: I see, you want to explore with me.
Magina: Yes, And I'm also quite experienced in melee combat.
Sven: Let us be on our way then, hop in.
As they sailed on for hours and hours and then night fell upon the sea. They slept pretty soundly in the boat as they woke up on the shore of a new land.
Magina: Sven, wake up, we've landed.
Sven: Huh? What...Oh, we're in a new place already! Hmm let's have a look at the map...It says that we're in a place called Kalimdor...

Chapter 3: The New Land, A New Enemy
They got off the boat, took their inventory filled with rations. Magina took his special twin moon blades with feedback and Sven brought along his new cleaving blade, Justice.
Apparently, they were no hostiles at the time despite the rumors of the outskirts of Kalimdor being filled with them. What was stranger however was the fact that they found some fresh corpses lying about as if some monster came through here.
Sven: This is...disturbing.
Magina: Very. Let's keep on and see where this trail leads to.
They decided to investigate this matter further and saw a vile trail of rotting corpses. They followed it all the way and found a huge undead abomination consuming the corpses.
Abomination: Ahhh, fresh meat!
They were just about to pass it when it suddenly looked back at them with an intense glare. It ran toward them with great speed for a beast its size. It was aggressively swinging its hook and meat cleaver which almost got Magina who was just able to avoid them just in time. Sven however was hit, and hit hard. He was wounded in his left arm area and was bleeding from it.
By some unexplainable reason, Sven went absolutely mad instead of succumb to the pain. He wielded the cleaving blade in one hand and swung it at the Abomination. Slashing its arm off. It yelled out in pain but Sven showed no remorse in his eyes. In fact, he even used Syllabear's technique of tossing axes with his blade as it went straight through the abomination, impaling it thoroughly.
Sven pulled it out with a twist and then, he started to calm down.
Magina: Wow, I've never seen you like that in your entire life.
Sven: Me neither. It was a strange aggressive feeling that built up inside me. I don't know what it was but it enabled me to move faster than I ever did. I was even able to use my cleaving blade with one hand, something I always do with two. Gah!
Magina: Oh, your wound. Here, apply some of it on the wound. It's healing salve. It should allow your wound to heal up faster.
Sven: It stings a bit, but it feels better...
Magina: By the way, can you move your arm now?
Sven: A little trouble but I'll ba able to use my blade with this.
Magina: Good 'cause I think we'll be needing it.
Behind them appeared a massive undead army full of abominations and smaller creatures who also consumed corpses. This army was being led by some sort of Death Knight who had a different air about him.
Sven: Oh yeah, It's just starting to get good...

Chapter 4: Confrontations
The Death Knight gave a signal and suddenly, every single one of those abominations and creatures attacked relentlessly. They were everywhere the two could think of escaping to.
So they stepped back and held their current positions. Sven would swing the Justice over a wide radius as to prevent any creature from attacking from the side while also using it as a dfensive wall. Magina was more experienced in battle and avoided their attacks with ease while he slashed them through. It was a sight to behold.
When it seemed that the army had fallen, the Death Knight cast a spell that raised all the corpses in the area, reincarnating the undead army. This time around, they were invulnerable. It seemed that every attack that they dealt to the creatures were having no effect whatsoever.
They tried to retreat but all their paths were blocked so all they could do was evade and defend all they can. When it seemed that they were done for, the creatures all collapsed back into corpses.
Death Knight: You two are quite impressive to have been able to survive that. It looks like things are going to be interesting from here on end...
And with that, the Death Knight disappeared into the shadows...
Sven: So that's what happened to all the hostiles, they've become undead. And what did that guy mean when he said that things are going to get interesting?
Magina: I've no idea but we must keep vigilant from now on. We barely survived that attack.
Sven: Agreed, now what do we do?
Magina: We must look for shelter for the night.
As they went on through their journey that night, they could not stop thinking about what had just transpired. Who was this Death Knight? Why are the undead here? They were looking for the answers to these questions when they saw a faint light coming from a nearby forest.
They went to investigate this and saw a small elven village. They decided to find a place to stay for the night there when they noticed that the light that they saw was a fire, the village was being raided by bandits!
Sven: We can't let these innocent people be harmed! Let's help them!
Magina: As you wish.
In the village...
Bandit Leader: Spare no one! Get everything you can! Burn this place to the ground!
Sven: Enough of this!
Bandit Leader: Who the hell are you? No, wait, never mind, kill them too!
They noticed that fighting these bandits would be much easier than what had transpired that morning. Magina easily parried their sloppy attacks and broke their spears with his blades causing them to flee in terror. Sven was getting better and more experienced as he wielded the blade with much more stability and speed than before.
But when Sven saw a bandit killing a village boy, he went berserk. He charged right into the bandits with the Justice in both hands where he ran every single one of the bandits through. And as he did with the abomination, he impaled the Bandit Leader with the Justice brutally. This time around however, it would seem that this rage would not end as soon as before.
Sven then charged at Magina with so much rage that you could almost feel it from afar. Magina, being great at evasive arts, jumped over Sven and hit him at the back of his head with his fist, rendering him unconscious.
Magina: I've got to get these fires out! Everyone, we must save the village before the fire spreads!
As soon as they heard this, the villagers came running out of their homes towards the moon well in which they used its enchanted waters to put out the flames.
Village Elder: Thank you for saving our village, how can we ever repay you?
Magina: Elder, all we ask is a place to stay for the night, thank you.
Village Elder: Of course, of course, you and your companion can stay at the inn free of charge!
Magina: Thank you elder.

Chapter 5: The Journey Continues
As they were both resting up, Magina could feel a sort of uneasy presence around them. He got up and looked around, trying to find the origin of this uneasiness. Focusing, he noticed that it came from Sven, who had half Demon, half Elven attributes.
Magina: I wonder what this could mean...I hope it won't be something I can't handle...
________________________
That morning, Sven woke up feeling great, Magina also woke up feeling good despite what he had noticed the night before. Sven and Magina then had some breakfast at the inn and went on their way.
As they were exiting the village...
Elder: Please wait!
Magina & Sven: What is it Elder?
Elder: Ah, one of us want to come with you to wherever you are going. Go on, don't be shy, show yourself to them.
And from the shadows appeared a figure holding glaives in one hand and a shield in the other.
???: I'm Nortrom I would like to come with you on your journey.
Magina: Well Nortrom, why do you want to come with us?
Nortrom: I am searching for something of great value that I lost many years ago. I thought that I may find it along the journey. Don't worry, I am completely aware of the dangers possible here in this land. I've learned the hard way and is why I lost that valuable.
Sven: Alright then, let's be on our way. Elder, thank you for giving us a place to stay for the night.
Elder: Hoho, it was no problem at all my friends. Good Luck on your journey!
As they went onwards into the unknown...
Magina: Nortrom, you been exploring lately?
Nortrom: Not recently. Why?
And there he was again, the same Death Knight with a different air about him.
Magina: That's why! Who are you and what do you want with us? You've been following us for two days now!
Death Knight: Alright, I am Abaddon, Lord of Avernus, all I want is to increase the power of my undead army and that's why I have brought with me today a small fragment of my grand force.
Unlike before, Abaddon was surrounded not by abominations and creatures but this time he had some unique creatures with him. Some were recognizable as Wendigos, Gnolls, Trolls and even some Ogres. But there was one creature different than all the rest, it was a huge figure, with a blazing sword, wings, hooves and horns. This figure remained a mystery but they knew they would have to defeat it in order to get through.
Of course, all the other creatures moved as if they were still alive and well, but something about them just gave them away as undead minions. Whether it was the stench or color, something was different about them compared to their kind who were still living.
Abaddon, again gave the signal and the army was off, with the huge creature leading the attack.
Magina: Sven, don't guard that blazing sword with the Justice, it might break!
Sven: Alright! Raaaaagh!!!
As the two were fightning all those who came at them, Nortrom, who stood at a distance, was tossing glaives wildly at the enemies, almost hitting Magina once.
Magina: Careful with those! Hit those away from us!
And Nortrom did just that he tossed this time, a glaive much bigger in size compared to the previous one which actually cut off the head of a troll. He started tossing these more as they were noticeably more powerful than the previous ones.
When they defeated all the minions, Abaddon, along with the huge creature, attacked. Abaddon was wielding a blade of great power that easily deflected the glaives tossed at him. The creature however, was a bit more careless than Abaddon, letting a glaive hit it right in the torso.
Strangely though, it did not even flinch, it just went for Magina who was having a hard time trying to defeat this beast as Sven confronted Abaddon who was now surrounded by a shield of sorts. Sven could not get past this shield and instead, went for the big creature. He was able to slash it in the back, but it did not stir, it just looked back at him and brandished its blade.
Sven and Magina finally subdued the creature when they both slashed its head area, killing it in the process while Nortrom distracted Abaddon with his glaives. Abaddon took on all three of them and surrounded himself with another shield. They all were able to destroy it together but it exploded with dark magic, knocking them down in the process.
Sven however, was able to get up immediately and land a hard blow on Abaddon. Abaddon was stunned by this and was again surrounded by dark magic which rendered him invulnerable as he made his escape...
Sven: What have we gotten ourselves into?
Magina: I don't know but it's getting harder as we go...

Chapter 6: Potential of the Justice
After they defeated Abaddon and his undead army, they stopped under the shade of a few trees and had lunch and discussed things.
Nortrom: Why were you being chased by that guy?
Magina: My guess is that he wants to kill us and turn us into undead. Really twisted when you think about it; I mean, killing the living just to turn them into undead.
Sven: Hey, Magina, you notice that the justice has, I don't know, changed?
Magina: In what way?
Sven: It's just that it feels different from the time I first gripped it. It's as if it's more powerful than how it was before.
Magina: Hmmm, I don't think it's the blade, Sven, I think it's you who has changed and grown stronger. By the way Nortrom, can I have a look at one of those big glaives you threw?
Nortrom: Here, I call it my Glaive of Wisdom. It's nothing special, it's just an ordinary glaive charged by my wisdom. Yeah, it can drain me of my energy faster but only if I use it too much. On regular occasions, I just toss my regular glaives.
Thing is, I learned this art of throwing glaives through my archery instructor. I was always better at throwing things than using a bow. So she told me how to create my own glaives.
Sven: Interesting, My blade was given to my by the one who adopted me. He said that it's a special blade but I still haven't seen what's so special about it. It seems like it's nothing else but a big sword.
Magina: No, Sven, I just noticed it now as well! Your blade doesn't look as much of a sword as it used to. It's as if it's transforming as we battle...
Just then, the conversation was suddenly interrupted by a sound of an explosion and the appearance of smoke from a distance.
Nortrom: Abaddon again?
Magina: No, we just beat him and Abaddon doesn't make his work noticed so it has got to be something different this time. This one's really trying to send a message.
Sven: Let's go check it out, it beats just sitting here and doing nothing.
Nortrom: Yeah, let's go.
The trio rushed to the scene only to see an obliterated elven town...
Sven: Let's investigate...
???: Alright, let's go.
Sven: Did you just speak to me, Justice?
Sven waited for a response that did not come, so he just ignored what just happened and went into the town with the other two.
There was absolutely nothing left of the town, just ruins and fires, not even any corpses were found. But from the smoke of a fire, they could make out the silhouette of a demonic figure. It was just standing there, so they decided to approach it.
They caught a slight glimpse of it before it disappeared. It looked like the creature that was with Abaddon, only this one was slightly bigger and was wielding a battle axe instead of a burning blade. As it flew off into the distance, it dropped something but did not come back for it.
The three took a look at what was dropped. It was a red orb swirling with life and magical energies called the Perseverance. Strangely though, it had no traces of demonic magic despite the fact that it was dropped by one. Sven picked it up and the Justice started responding to it.
Sven: Is this what he meant by the Justice being a special blade? Let's see what happens when I bring them together...
Sven put the Perseverance onto the Justice, there was a flash of light and the Perseverance disappeared...
Sven: Where did it go?
Magina: Sven, it disappeared into the Justice I think.
Nortrom: Yeah, I saw it clearly, It did disappear into the justice, I'm used to being able to see in bright, even nearly blinding light. Though it's not that noticeable, the Justice looks somewhat more powerful than it did before.
Sven: Let me try swinging it around.
Sven wielded the Justice very well and as he did his trademark wide slash, a storm hammer came flying out of the blade and exploded into magical energies as the rock it made contact with was completely shattered.
Sven: I don't know what just happened but I like it!

Chapter 7: Seeing is Believing
They left the ruins behind them and ended up in a dense forest.
Magina: I'm not sure about this Sven, I know that the Perseverance has strengthened Justice but I'm not sure if it's safe. I know there weren't any traces of demonic magic on it but it still came from that figure who we can assume to be a demon.
At that point, They all felt like they were being watched...
Sven: Show yourself!
Nothing showed up so Sven shot a storm hammer at the location and something was obviously hit as whatever it was fell off a nearby tree.
At that point, something began to materialize on the ground...It was an orcish shaman according to what they knew.
Magina: Tie him up, we're gonna ask some questions and get some answers.
Five minutes later, the orc shaman woke up...
Shaman: What's the meaning of this?
Magina: We're just gonna ask you a few questions orc. First of all, what were you planning when you were spying on us?
Shaman: ...
Magina: Not talking eh? *Magina punches the shaman hard in the face.
Shaman: ...
Magina punches the orc again.
Shaman: You have no idea what you're doing are you? You have no idea who the hell you're messing with here...RAAAAAH!
The Shaman suddenly had a look of pure rage in its eyes, as if it had an insatiable hunger to kill. It just ripped apart the vines and Magina, being caught off guard, was slashed in the eyes, blinding him completely! It bled a lot and Magina was screaming in agony.
Shaman: Blood...
Sven then slashed the orc down using the Justice. The Shaman was knocked down but got up very quickly, nearly instantly and fled at the speed of light. Nortrom tried to stop him with a Glaive of Wisdom but it was too late, the strange shaman had disappeared already...
Magina: Sven, look in my backpack, there should be a black cloth there. Will you hand it to me please.
Sven: Here it is.
Magina: Thanks.
Magina then used the cloth as a blindfold.
Magina: I don't know how I'm going to continue on fighting like this. I must rely on my instincts now, more than ever.
Nortrom: As I know, there's a town nearby with a legendary trainer. According to the rumors, he's the best anyone's ever seen but his training's very harsh. Maybe you would want to go see him Magina?
Magina: It's worth a shot. It's useless for me to continue on blindly...
________________________
In the town...
Nortrom: He should be here somewhere...Ah there's his house. Let's go.
Sven: It's as if you've been here already Nortrom.
Nortrom: Yeah, He's my uncle actually. We don't look like each other in any way but that's the way it is.
Magina: Your uncle huh? No wonder you wielded those glaives so well.
Nortrom: Hehehehe, anyway, let's be on our way shall we?
In the house of the trainer...
Nortrom: Anyone home?
???: Is that you Nortrom?
Nortrom: The one and only. By the way, Uncle Yurnero, I have a companion who wants to be trained by you.
Yurnero: I see, where is he?
Magina: I am the one who wishes to be trained by you, Great Yurnero. I was blinded by an unexpected shot from an orcish shaman in the forest.
Yurnero: I see you have encountered the bloodseeker. He is no shaman, he is a unique creature who is half demon, half orc and an excellent warrior. I know this for a fact for I confronted him once in the forest and almost lost.
Magina: What happened?
Yurnero: I was able to pull off my omnislash at the last second which made him run away, leaving the match a draw.
Magina: Will you please teach me? I must learn how to fight and rekindle my instincts now that I'm blind. I'm willing to do whatever it takes, no matter how long it takes, no matter how hard it is!
Yurnero: I see you already realize the impact of your decision. Seeing as how convinced you are, I will do it.
Magina: Thank you, Great Yurnero!
Yurnero: But before I get to you, would you want to train with us as well?
Sven: Oh, thank you for the offer. Yes, I will also train here but only for a while. I must be on the move soon.
Yurnero: In that case, let us get started with you! Now, let's see you slash at me, go ahead!
Sven slashed at Yurnero who easily parried the blow with his famed katana. Sven was amazed to see one with such skill. No one has ever parried his blow, only defend against it. Yurnero then thrust his blade at Sven who barely deflected it. Yurnero then jumped up and slashed toward Sven. Sven was knocked down and saw Yurnero's blade by his throat.
Yurnero: Yes, yes, there is much to learn grasshopper. Stay a day or two so we can develop your blade wielding skills. Magina will require special training but since you can't stay as long as I would wish for you to stay, we must work on you first. By the way Nortrom, there's some something I fixed up in the kitchen, feel free to have some of it.
Nortrom: Sushi, my favorite!
