A Comeback of Epic Proportions

Posted: Wed Jan 02, 2008 12:11 pm

*This is the continuation to the Value of True Power. Now, as we pick up our story from there...

Sven woke up in an elven encampment and went outside and saw that the World Tree was safe at last. But he could not stop thinking about that demonic figure he saw in the smoke of the fires, about who this demon was and what was its purpose…

Chapter 1: A Return Long Due

Nortrom went back to his village where he became the best protector it ever had. Shendelzare, who was now a spirit, looked for a way to gain a more complete form. The elven encampment was assigned to Lanaya, who had just returned from a training journey. Luna Moonfang however, was nowhere to be seen.

As for Sven and Magina, they decided to return to the village of their origin.

That afternoon, they set up a boat by the shore and prepared to set sail until they saw a figure approaching.

Sven immediately readied himself but Magina gave him a gesture that assured him that this one was not their enemy. In fact, it was Luna Moonfang who told them that she wanted to travel with them. The two gladly let her join them.

As they sailed, they could feel the crisp sea breeze on their faces, they could see the sun setting on the horizon, and the waters were calm as can be. It could not have been a more perfect day for sailing. In fact, Sven had already fallen asleep when Luna broke the silence.

"Magina?" She asked with a hint of uneasiness. "About our destination..."

"You want me to tell you about it, am I right?" quickly replied the blind elf.

"Well," he started, "our destination is the elven fishing village where Sven and I came from. It is a simple and thriving place. You can always feel the fresh, sea breeze as we are now. The fish we catch are always fresh and full of life. Nothing has ever compromised the life of village or its people and I hope that it stays that way until the end of time."

Luna said no more, just a silent nod as the group continued sailing towards their destination...

Chapter 2: Home Sweet Home

They sailed through the night though Magina was the only one awake to steer the boat. He did not want any mishaps to occur while on tis trip back home. It was around that time when Sven woke up and saw Magina still awake.

"Why don't you get some sleep? I can take it from here" said a concerned Sven.

"Alright, thank you my friend," replied a weary Magina. Then, almost instantly, the blind elf fell asleep.

It's as if he can see though he's blind. He must have gone under some sort of ritual or something. Sven thought to himself as he steered the boat onwards.

After what seemed like an eternity, he caught a glimpse of land in the distance despite the fog of the dawn. He was sure that it was the village of his origin and headed straight toward it.

A few hours later, the sun rose up and they landed on the shore of the village where a few of the elves were already catching fish or preparing for a trip.

Sven woke up his two companions and they walked around the village, observing any changes over the time that they were gone. However, everything seemed as they were before except for the stone giant that was wandering about.

For a moment, they murmured about what this one was doing in the village when...

"I see you've finally noticed Tiny," came a voice from behind them. "Don't be so cautious, you're in the village anyway."

"Aiushtha, good to see you again," articulated Magina.

"But, how can you see? Aren't you blind?" replied a startled enchantress.

"Ah, yes of course I'm blind," started Magina, "However, I have undergone a rigorous training ritual that lets me see in a sense but let's not go through the details. Anyway, about Tiny, what's it doing here?"

"Oh him," Aiushtha retorted, "I found him knocked out in the forest, during one of my rounds. He's big but very helpful; we elves lack the physical strength but this guy doesn't! Anyway, how was your journey and who's this new companion of yours?"

Time seemed to fly by as they talked about their journey with Aiushtha. Yes, they were back home at last...

Chapter 3: A Threat at Sea

Early in the morning, as they were dozing off at Syllabear's house, which Sven now took care of, Sven just couldn't sleep at all. He just couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen so he got up from his bed, and walked outside.

It was a pretty nice morning, the usual fog was present along with the calm winds. Sven took a deep breath and exhaled which somehow made him feel a little better. He walked towards the sea as he always did when he was a little elf to calm himself.

He sat down by the shore and listened to the waves rolling in and out. Actually, he almost fell asleep until he heard something different with the waves. Before, they rolled in and out very calmly but now, they were roaring! The waves grew big and rolled in and out dangerously closing in on the fishing boats.

The problem was that no one noticed the waves. They were all sound asleep in their homes. Without any extra help, Sven would have had no time to drag the fishing boats out of the way of the waves.

Luckily, he still had his backpack with him which contained the Linken's Sphere. He took it out and it gave out a bright light. The next thing he knew, Sven and the boats were surrounded by a translucent blue barrier which protected Sven and the boats from the violent wrath of the seas.

Around a few minutes later, the light of the Sphere faltered and the shield was starting to fade away. Fortunately, the waves also started to calm down as well. Sven then saw the sun rising on the horizon and he felt much better.

Strange, very strange indeed, the waves only grow to that size during a storm but there were no clouds above and the winds were still calm while they roared about, a very curious Sven thought, could this have something to do with that demonic figure I encountered before?

Chapter 4: Forest Patrol

What made the village such a safe place was that it was hidden from the world. It was by the shore yet it is bordered by woods. Which meant that there would be a need for a Forest Patrol Force which Aiushtha now led.

Sven was still by the shore where he protected the boats as he quickly kept the Sphere from the eyes of others. Yes, elves were trustworthy but this was a powerful artifact. You know the saying, "Power corrupts and Absolute Power corrupts absolutely." Sven of course, took heed of this very well and never used the Sphere for selfish reasons.

"Ah, you're awake already, Sven," came a cheerful voice from behind him.

"Yes, couldn't sleep last night I'm afraid," responded Sven, who decided not to tell anyone about what happened earlier yet.

"Well, since you look good to go anyway, why don't you come and patrol the forest with me?" imposed Aiushtha who was always in a good mood.

"Alright," Sven acknowledged, "but let me get my blade first."

Sven went inside his house quietly, took his blade carefully and walked out again as to not wake up the two who were still sound asleep.

"Alright, let's go then," stated Aiushtha. "We've got a lot of work to do. Good thing Tiny's here to help us!"

"Y-yeah," Sven hesitantly acknowledged.

As they walked on through the jungle, Tiny still had that smile on his face. Which was somewhat humorous to look at. Everything seemed fine until Aiushtha threw a spear at something.

"Gotcha!" expressed Aiushtha as she heard her spear hit something. It was one of those trouble making trolls which were always a bother to the creatures here who just want to relax. These guys would usually create snare traps, throw dung bombs to unsuspecting creatures (usually elven patrol forces) and sometimes just come at you from behind to scare you.

She approached the troll who was knocked out by here spear only to see that she impaled a dummy. Tiny took one glance at the dummy and looked behind him. He caught a glance of some trolls running off but did not pursue them.

Keeping this in mind, he followed Aiushtha. He noticed something on the ground and spread his hand outward, stopping Aiushtha to move forward. Tiny then threw a small rock onto the ground and watched it fly up into the air. Apparently, he triggered the snare trap the trolls set up.

The group was about to track down more trolls when a roar came from a distance. They decided to travel to the area or the commotion to see what it was. When they got to the area, they saw that it was a wildkin, a vile creature with features of different kinds of animals, that was causing the noise.

It was wreaking havoc in its path, obliterating any creature that got in its way and breaking down the trees. It was obvious due to the fact that you could see some fresh corpses around it. It had to be stopped. Sven was about to jump it when Aiushtha told him to stop and let tiny handle it.

Sven trusted Aiushtha and stopped as she commanded. She then gave Tiny a nod which he responded with a nod as well. Tiny made his presence known by picking up a tree with his right arm and bashing the wildkin right on its head. Apparently, this only angered the wildkin as it struck Tiny right on the chest which came back straight at it, stunning it in the process.

Tiny took advantage of this moment and tossed the wildkin high up in the air with his left arm this time. As the wildkin was about to make contact with the ground, Tiny gripped the tree with both his hands like a baseball bat and swung it with all his might! The tree broke at the force that Tiny exerted and as for the wildkin, all we can say is...HOME RUN!!!

Seeing that there was nothing else causing trouble, except for the trolls, Aiushtha sent Sven back to the village and told him to get some rest. She assured him that she and Tiny could handle the forest patrol so Sven went back to the village.

Sven was able to get back to the village without any trouble at all. He had nothing to do at the moment so he decided to go to the shore.

He sat down on the fine sands of the shore and the calming winds were present as always. A few minutes later, Sven had fallen asleep right then and there on the sands...

*Sorry it took quite some time to make this, I had a lot of tests to study for.

Chapter 5: A Glimpse of the Future?

Sven got up in the afternoon, looked around him and saw no one though he was still in the village. He called out for anyone but no one answered. This brought about a feeling of curiosity and fear in him. He continued exploring and opened the door of the nearest house and saw...corpses, elven corpses.

At this sight, he closed the door and ran to other houses and saw that they were as the previous ones were; everyone was dead. A thought came to Sven then he ran to his house and saw that both Magina and Luna were nowhere to be seen.

He shut the door and contemplated on what could have happened to the two when he was interrupted by a sound coming from the shore. He went and saw a few distant figures slowly coming towards the village...

Sven got up, looked around and saw that everything was as it was before he slept. He gave out a huge sigh of relief and realized that it was just a dream. Though for a dream, it seemed terribly realistic.

He looked at the water and saw his reflection. He looked at it, contemplating on the future when he saw his reflection transform into a snakelike creature holding a trident. He blinked and saw his reflection once more.

"Man, I really need to get some sleep. I'm seeing things for crying out loud..." expressed a troubled Sven.

Sven walked to his house, got on his bed and was finally able to sleep soundly. What he failed to realize however, was the fact that Luna and Magina were not in the house...
