A Berserker’s Call to Battle
Posted: Fri Feb 15, 2008 12:16 pmChapter 1: The Start of Everything
He knew no longer of his past, his purpose nor his cause; only the name he goes by remained in his memory.
He stood tall even for orcish standards, had straight black hair, wore a well-crafted, black battle outfit, wielded a war axe and carried a flag with his clan’s symbol on it. He would have been a regular orc blade master save for the fact that he was red-skinned, eyes blazing with jade flames and reeked with the stench of the Burning Legion.
He sat in a dark room alone, contemplating on what lay ahead. The door opened and there came a mocking voice that said, “Come on orc, it’s time.”
The orc stood up without a word and slammed the door shut on his way out, clearly indicating that he was angered by this voice. A hooded figure was standing outside in the dungeon-like hallway lit by a few torches and gestured for the orc to follow him. “Annoying human,” the orc murmured.
When they got to the end, the orc pushed the hooded man aside and went out of the hallway and into a great arena. It was a great structure filled with people that was spacious enough for a small army to fit in. It also had a rough dirt terrain, perfect for battles. The orc looked on as on the other side of an arena was a rock golem that towered over the tall orc and had battle scars that showed its experience.
“All this time and all I get is a pathetic golem!” The orc exclaimed then he drew his axe and taunted the golem to come forward. The golem fell for the taunt and immediately rushed at the orc. It punched the orc with a great, rocky fist but The orc merely stepped to the side and struck it from there. The golem shrugged off the attack and quickly returned with another punch. The orc saw the opportunity and dodged again but this time, he did it when the rock fist was just about to hit him.
The rocky fist went at such a speed that it got stuck in the dirt. The golem was struggling to pull it out while the orc, from behind, thrust his blade into the back of the golem, going through the golem like a hot knife through butter. At this immense thrust, the golem collapsed and was nothing more than another rock pile.
He pulled his blade out from the remains of the golem then turned and left the arena towards the dark room where he came from.
He got back to his room, shut the door and sat down.
“How long have you been waiting?” He asked despite that he was the only one in the room.
“Well, not very long, Khan.” Said a mysterious voice from somewhere in the room.
“So what is your purpose here?” Khan asked.
“That time has finally arrived. You know your part do you not?” The voice replied.
“Of course. These pathetic humans do not know what awaits them.” Said the orc with what one might call a smile…

Chapter 2: The Plan
Once again, the door opened and the voice from before said, “Next match, orc.” Khan slammed the door behind him once more but this time, he was raging. The hooded man did not notice this and just walked through the path. Just as the approached the end of the hallway, Khan drew his war axe and decapitated the hooded man.
Khan picked up the head, walked to the center of the arena and raised it as high as he could. Everyone in the arena was shocked and some were starting to panic.
“Worry not, my friends, as long as I am here, this orc shall learn its place,” said the arena master. “Now, seize that orc, unleash the greatest beast we have on it!”
The gates on the other side of the arena then burst open and standing there was a dragon the color of the night sky with sharp fangs and a gaze that seemed to stare into one’s very soul. Khan however, did not show the slightest sign of fear or awe. This is their most powerful beast? I’ve faced much more horrific monstrosities than this during the days of the dragons… These pitiful humans truly fail to amuse me, Khan thought to himself.
The dragon charged at Khan with impressive speed for one its size but Khan was not in the least impressed. Instead, he jumped high up in the air and got on the dragons back with ease, clearly showing that he was an experienced dragon rider. The dragon flapped its wings and took to the skies, trying to shake off Khan. Khan took hold of one of its scales for balance and he crawled up the dragon’s back scale by scale until he reached the neck where he thrust his blade into the dragon’s spine.
The dragon gave out a deafening cry of pain then fell to the earth where it lay, motionless and lifeless. Khan put away his blade, looked at the arena master and taunted him as if saying, “That the best you can do?”
The arena master, along with everyone else, was horrified at what Khan had just done. It was no ordinary feat to slay a dragon but this orc did it as if what he had done was nothing at all. Khan, seeing that these humans were going to do nothing took action and climbed up to the stands where he began to kill every human he saw. At this, everyone panicked and ran out of the arena. Those who were unfortunate to be left behind were easily slain by the orc.
Yes, everything is going according to plan…

This is nice. The descriptions still aren't as vivid as I would have liked, and the themes that I thought were going develop kinda got lost, and at some places it feels a bit awkward. but other than that there are no obvious errors. Keep it up.

Chapter 3: The Shadows Beckon
After the massacre at the arena…
Khan sat down on one of the seats of the arena, admiring his work as he saw the multiple corpses all over the arena.
“You know, this would’ve been much easier if you had shown your face earlier,” Khan said, “I would not have wasted as much time with the humans.”
“Well, you’ll have to excuse me for that, preparations took longer than expected.” A dark shadowy figure suddenly cracked with flames in his voice, “You do realize, however that this is a very delicate operation.”
“I wouldn’t give a damn if it were finished yesterday or years from now. Just get to the point; you’re wasting my time Nevermore.” Khan replied, clearly irritated.
“Well,” Nevermore started, “apparently, we just need one more thing before we can initiate the-”
“And whatever that is, you want me to get it,” Khan interrupted, “Go on, tell me what you need.”
“We need…a worthy human sacrifice.” Nevermore said.
“There is no such thing as a worthy human!” Khan boomed, “Either the human is dead or alive! The sooner they are dead, the better! They do nothing of honor or value! Don’t tell me that there is one, they are all the same to me! So if you want one, get it yourself!”
“But you are the only one with the skills of tracking down a target easily.” Nevermore cleverly replied, “The human we are seeking is a spellcaster, a human female that goes by the name of Rylai Crestfall. She has blue eyes deep as the sea, long blond hair that streams to her back and prefers to wear a dark, hooded cloak.”
“Dead or alive?” Khan asked, frustrated.
“Alive of course, she needs to be in order to be of any sacrificial value.” Nevermore replied

Chapter 4: Stirring up Trouble
Khan then began the search for this human female with great reluctance but he knew that Nevermore was right; that he was the only one who could do this faster than anyone else and that he had to do this in order that the plan could come to completion.
Then, as he began searching in town, dressed in a rather large brown cloak with which to hide his appearance, he started recollecting his thoughts on what this plan was and what its purpose was.
“Nevermore, tell me of the plan.”
“Listen carefully Khan, for you are one of the keys in this plan which will allow the Burning Legion back into Azeroth. Though I realize that they and their leader Sargeras were defeated back then by Medivh’s mother, Magna Aegwynn, one of the greatest Guardians of Tirisfal. However, you do realize that she is no longer here do you not?”
“I do of course but what about Medivh?”
“Medivh? Surely you do not believe that he is still present in this day and age? He disappeared right after The Scourge and Archimonde were defeated, his whereabouts, unknown and most believe him to be dead. Though legends say that a black raven can be seen endlessly circling Karazhan, leading some to suggest that the Last Guardian may linger on in some form. Nonetheless, that is only a legend and his fate remains unknown.”
“I see your point Nevermore. Now what is my role in all of this?”
“Khan, you are one of the orcs who is still under the Legion’s power. That power is the key to the reopening of the portal of the Burning Legion into our world…”
And that is all he said to me; nothing more, nothing less though I would’ve wanted to-
Khan’s train of thought was interrupted when he bumped into someone.
“Watch where you’re going!”
At this, Khan wanted to decapitate this insolent human but thought better of it; he wouldn’t want to stir up trouble during such a delicate situation.
A few minutes later, he decided to get to higher ground and there he stood, at the clock tower overlooking the town. He could see virtually everything.
Everything
And now from the tower balcony, he noticed a hooded figure trying to hide the staff it was carrying. Khan jumped down from the tower and ran towards the figure immediately. When he was right behind the figure, he hit the figure’s head with his forearm, knocking it out. He then noticed the crowd suddenly stare at him.
“It’s alright,” Khan started, trying to make himself sound as human as possible. “It’s just that this one has been stirring up trouble for some time and only now did we find it again.”
Everyone just nodded in approval and went on with their ways. Khan then ran out of town with the hooded figure. When they got to a forest, he took off the hood of the figure and saw that it was Rylai as she fit Nevermore’s description.
Khan however kept his hood on and rushed back towards Nevermore. Unfortunately, Rylai woke up from the hit to her head but did not stir. She was silently saying some incomprehensible words, clearly conjuring a spell. Khan detected something amiss and he dropped Rylai, the impact interrupted her spell but then she stood up and faced the large hooded figure standing and looking right towards her…

Chapter 5: Chaos versus Ice
Rylai took one look at the figure in front of her and readied herself. She knew that this was no ordinary opponent she was facing as none have ever knocked her unconscious so quickly. She knew that she would have to be careful in facing this opponent.
Khan then removed his cloak and revealed his face; the face of one tainted by the chaotic power of the Burning Legion. Rylai was startled at the sight of this as she thought that none of his kind still existed.
"I thought your kind was banished from this world long ago!" exclaimed Rylai.
Khan responded with a brief silence, followed by the drawing of his war axe.
At this, Rylai Placed her staff in front of her which acted as both a guard and a channeler of the upcoming spell. She spoke some incomprehensible words and upon hearing this, Khan observed anything amiss with his surroundings as the experienced orc has had his fair share of dealing with magic.
She thrust her staff towards the ground and the ground below Khan quickly turned an icy blue, and then a block of ice suddenly appeared which threatened to envelop Khan in its icy death trap.
Fortunately, Khan rolled out of the way but his right leg had already partly frozen. He had to avoid further contact with this spellcaster for the time being to let his leg thaw.
Khan then disappeared into the dense forest to prepare for his counter attack.
Rylai caught a glimpse of him go into the forest and so, she went in, deeper into the forest.
She did not know however that this would give Khan the advantage.
Khan carefully observed Rylai as she went around in circles, clearly not knowing where to go.
This fails to amuse me. Now it is my turn, this will ensure my victory! Khan thought as he jumped out from a nearby bush, thrust out an open palm to Rylai's back, and quickly followed through into another nearby tree.
At this Rylai felt an insatiable, burning urge to kill that was eating away at her very soul. She looked around for any creature, anything that she could kill but to no avail. She had to do something quick before this Battle Hunger completely consumed her.
However, Khan had planned it very well. He had lured her into a dense area in the forest in which no creature dwells, leaving her with nothing to kill as to let the Battle Hunger eat away at her very soul.
Rylai, after going through just a few seconds of the torment that was the Battle Hunger, started feeling that it was slowly intensifying; getting more painful, more soul-consuming by the second.
Desperately, she gathered up whatever of what was left of her magical strength and unleashed explosions of icy death throughout that area of the forest. Surely, making contact with one of these explosions would pierce one with multiple shards of ice while it also freezes one's body to its very core, rendering it lifeless.
All to no avail.
Khan was aware of this spell and kept a good distance from where he could continue observing the spellcaster while keeping himself safe from her spells. She ended up just wasting all her strength.
Then, the pain was way too much for her to handle and she collapsed right then and there, drained of all her strength, but still breathing. Khan then dispelled the Battle Hunger from Rylai, put his cloak back on, and carried Rylai off into the sacrificial altar of the Burning Legion...
