Angels on earth - Purist's story.
Posted: Fri Feb 01, 2008 10:42 amPrologue:-
"DEATH?" a look of utter disbelief crawled across Zeus' face, "that's... that's outrageous , I thought it would be a year of servitude maybe two at most, but death? That's ridiculous death is ridiculous." He strolled back and forwards his face red with rage, "they won't get away with this, absolutely not, Furion will here of thi...."
"Furion commanded this," Purist's dry throat created a croaky voice. The months in the prison cell had taken their toll on him. His usually perfect blond hair was messy and smelly, and his body as thin as a twig. "let it be Zeus, let me die in peace."
"They should be praising you Purist, praising you for your good deeds, for your service to your people. It should be gold that showers you, not stone," A frown appeared on Zeus', "You don't deserve to die Purist, and I will fight for what is righteous."
"I... deserve... to die" Purist said slowly" I betrayed them..., I betrayed you all"
"TIMES UP" called a voice from the distance as a figure came to escort Zeus from the prison.
A tear appeared on Zeus' cheek, "you're like a son to me Purist, I will not let you die," Zeus stood to make his leave "trust me," he said as he left the cell. Trust thought Purist, trust is why it all began, why I'm in this god forsaken cell . He lay his head back against the prison cell wall and remembered what started three years ago...
Chapter 1: Purist Thunderwrath
Purist's wavy, blond hair danced in the howling wind. His magnificent blue eyes glimmered at the thought of what personal glory he might win. He had a tall nose, bushy eyebrows and a small mouth. Perfectly tanned skin covered his rock hard masculine body. He stood around six foot two inches tall with a brilliant velvet, navy blue tunic around his shoulders. The arrogant eighteen year old stood tall and proud as doubtlessly the most handsome human being alive. "You don't have to do this! We can find others, there are probably thousands of other people who would be willing to do this job, thousands!" shouted Zeus at the top of his husky voice only just prevailing over the roaring wind.
Purist smiled, "why wouldn't I want to do this? Nothing can fight better than I, and just think of the gold I will be rewarded with!" he called back sincerely.
Zeus could see by the look on Purist's face that there was no way he could change his mind. "I'll be watching you, you can trust that I'll do that. And... be careful or you'll get yourself killed. And... And keep the hammer safe!" he shouted grimly as he waved. Purist admired the hammer in his hand. From a distance it looked like just an ordinary stone hammer. On closer inspection however it was the most brilliant thing one could lay eyes on. Pure Mithril! It was light as a feather yet strong as an ox. There were markings around the head that Purist didn't quite know the meaning of, yet knew he would find out someday.
"Nothings strong strong enough to come anywhere near me!" smirked Purist confidently. You've done the right thing, trust us, said the voices in his head as he and the roaring wind disappeared into thin air...
....
Purist stared at the burnt remains of the scroll in his hands. The individual jet black flakes slowly fell through his fingers and onto the ground. He looked up at his new surroundings, red and yellow Autumn leaves were falling from every tree. Everywhere he looked enormous tree roots were jutting out of the ground. The wind had quickly died down after the teleportation but he knew that he had still attracted some unwanted attention. Look behind you, said the voices urgently. Purist span around, in front of stood three hideous creatures. Their spines were bent, as if the burdens of their sins on their shoulders were so heavy that their spine had not been able to cope. They stood on all fours with dark green hair lying all the way down their backs. The size of their jaws and teeth was incredible, it looked as if they could eat a horse whole and bite through the neck in a single go with their long razor sharp teeth. The blood from previous victims dripped freely from their mouths. The hazel eyes that lay on the face showed clearly that their intentions were to kill Purist.
Purist used the tunic around his shoulders to tie his left hand behind his back. The soft velvet felt pleasant against his tanned skin. What are you doing? asked the voices. "I can take these pitiful monsters with one hand tied behind my back" he smirked confidently. He picked up his hammer with his right hand and ran at his opponents. He moved like an arrow released from a bow, with such alacrity that he looked more like a blur then a figure, with such speed that he reached his seemingly motionless victims before the next red or yellow leaf could drop. The first creature had no chance, before it could move a muscle Purist had smashed it on the head with the full force of his hammer. It's skull gave way and caved in. Pieces of chipped teeth flew in every different direction and blood painted the red leaves redder. What was left was a dead, defeated body, not a monster. The second lunged at Purist's unprotected left side. It was fast but Purist was faster, he side stepped the attack and seized the moment of vulnerability. He slammed the the hammer on to his spine and with a sickening crunch it straightened, and then bent the other way. The mithril head of the hammer gleamed in the sunlight as if expressing pleasure. A gash appeared across Purist's back as the third penetrated the defence on his unprotected side. Purist felt the pain but parried the second blow anyhow. Quickly, and with all his might he swung the hammer at the remaining monster. As the mithril head of the hammer whistled through the air, as it smashed into the ghoul killing it on the spot, Purist heard footsteps. Footsteps made by legs which played the ground like a drum...

Impressive work. Nice descriptions, very precise yet quite easy to understand. Please go on.
On a side note, now I now know how vivid your story descriptions are supposed to be. Now I know what you mean.

Thanks for the feed back :P. Purist is supposed to be arrogant, leaves room for character development later on, that's why he doesn't speak to zeus respectfully. I thought you knew what i meant when i said more vivid descriptions. All you need is lots of metaphors and similes (hair danced in the wind) and describing everything even a fly landing on someone's shoe or whatever.

Chapter 2: Travex
The archer wore a hood as black as the night's sky. It was a flimsy piece of material, the loose ends that were not tied down flew in the wind. The archer's ears were not covered and the material was too thin to keep the cold out anyway. Curiously it was neither cold enough to use it to keep warm, nor hot enough to use it to keep cool. Instead the archer used it to hide her face in the shadow it created. She always kept her head down so that all you could see was her long blue hair, her pale blue skin and her radiant orange eyes which seemed only to be highlighted by the darkness. Everything around her was beautiful, the leaves on trees were a brilliant display of red and orange and the crystal clear river beside her sparkled in the moonlight. However the lone archer had no time to admire her surroundings.
There's so many of them! she ran, they're so fast and strong and they never seem to tire. She notched another arrow onto her bow and jumped in the air. Turning around in mid-air, being careful not to lose speed, she took aim. But if you hit them in just the right place... She was fatigued, her hands shook with fear and moisture from the sweat on her hands made them slip. The arrow zipped through the air and reached its target in the blink of an eye. A screech of pain greeted the arrow as the target fell to the ground with an arrow through its throat. ...they can be taken down , she thought as she turned around and began to run. Some stopped to feast on their dead comrade but others persisted in pursuit of more tender meat.
They were gaining on her, these almost invincible creatures with hunched backs, brown eyes and dark green hair streaming down their backs. Ghouls as they were called. Let them kill you , the archer almost stopped in surprise, but Death was approaching and she still had something to do before she went. You're a...an inconvenience to the plan, give up and die , she didn't bother looking for the source, it was inside her head. Travex... Die! Travex felt shock travelling through her, every muscle in her body froze and she dropped like a stone to the ground.
The sound of the whistling wind stopped and the beautiful surroundings lost their vibrant colour as Death approached, she hid behind the shadow of her hood. Her heart beat was rapid but the hungry ghouls matched its speed. They were above her and ready to feast, death greated her with a cold smile. She shut her radiant orange eyes for the last time and braced for the fatal impact of claw on throat. The lead ghoul lifted its arm to make the deadly swing. It fell quickly and forcefully, and cut into thin air... it's prey had disappeared.
.............................
Purist fearlessly stared down his opponent, it was the definition of a monster. The leaves around it turned grey and the grass beneath it's feat turned to dirt. Even the strongest tree roots that jutted out of the ground at every angle were crushed underneath it's weight. It had a round head and a wide body, it was about a foot taller than Purist and ten times the weight. The metal chain that he held in his left hand was clearly his weapon of choice and he wielded it with such immense strength. It looked like a scrapy piece of work, slabs of meat sewn together to make it. The most terrifying aspect of the monster though, was the gaping hole of that lay in the middle of its chest. A yellow froth looked as if it would poor out of that hole and the stuff looked caustic. Purist smiled, finally a challenge. He approached his enemy, hammer in hand, ignoring the completely hideous odour the creature was giving off.
The monster looked at Purist with wide eyes. It scanned his features, then looked into blank space in dilemma before scanning his features again. "Me thinks.... yes.... you the one master want dead," the monster exclaimed, happy with itself. Slowly it walked towards Purist, with all its weight it quickly brought down a full forced arm onto him. Purist tensed his muscles, it took every ounce of strength in him to parry the blow the the mithril hammer head. He looked at the monster, disappointed, "somehow I expected more from you." In a flash he drove his hammer into the side of the monster with full force. The creature still stood,
