6.52 Competitive Dota

I've been browsing through Dota-Allstars' Competitive Dota forum today, because I have not been watching league replays for a very long time and I thought maybe I'll get some idea for a blog post. And indeed I found something very interesting that I'll talk about for today's post.

If you also browsed through the said forum, you'll find that league players have switched to 6.52e or some 6.52d - 6.48b is officially history. There's been not much change in the game style, as we'll see later. However some glaring differences are so obvious I think it's worth pointing it out. So let's compare what has been different and similar between 6.48b and 6.52e:

  1. Omniknight, Warlock, Faerie Dragon, Terrorblade, Nerubian Assassin and Chen almost never appear in any game, but are consistently banned.
  2. Despite being nerfed several times, the Queen of Pain is still as successful in 6.52, and more or less with the same performance as in 6.48b. So are Nevermore, Skeleton King and Mirana.
  3. After having been buffed in recent versions, the Lich and Dragon Knight are now permanent presences in the new map. They are almost always picked, and if not, sits on the banned list.
  4. Leshrac, Dazzle, Beastmaster, Centaur Warchief and Zeus do not appear as often as they did in 6.48b.
  5. Heroes that make an occasional appearance include Demon Witch, Chaos Knight, Tidehunter, Treant Protector, Death Prophet, Keeper of the Light and Nectrolyte.
  6. Lina, being so frequently used in 6.48b, is virtually ignored.

edit: my comments about your post

1. I can see NA being banned a lot, but the others are ??? I didn't see them in 6.48 much but I don't remember them being buffed too much to warrant them being banned

2. all good carry heroes with dps and ganking potential all game, makes sense

3. no comment

4. didn't know dazzle was picked too much, don't think Leschrac or Zeus were changed much, I guess their counters/competitors were changed so the environment shifted

5. aww Lina is awesome, didn't her animation receive a buff making it better, and shouldn't she be picked more then?

aww, the dagger change would make Lina worse, since most players would get that on her so they could escape, makes sense

Terrorblade and Chen were buffed due to the new creep camps.
Omni and Puck were buffed because of the dagger nerf.
Warlock was always popular to begin with.

One more thing you haven't mentioned is the popularity of Brood mother nowadays.

@#1: Aside from Puck, I have rarely witnessed the other heroes in league games.

Chaos Knight was getting more popular in the .49 maps, but suddenly disappeared.

I also don't see how Zeus could survive the new competitive gaming.

There was one occasion where I saw Zeus, Spectre and Furion on one team. They would have also picked Chen if he was not banned. Global strike FTW.

Broodmother of the present is ridiculously overpowered. I shudder to think of her in the hands of a half-decent league player with similarly skilled allies (much as I overall despise any mention of league players or activities).

brood is powerful but seeing the alternative for the in-usability of SK, raigor, she is not really viable.

basically brood can survive early, but with the presence of heroes like slardar/ES/cm she cant really do much

the new crow mana rule sucks
