Ferinell - The Fairy Dragon

Hmmm. Something I cooked up at school with the help of some addicted DotA classmates. Smile
My first one, seeing as i rarely see Fairy Dragon DotA characters except from other DotA-like maps.

Ferinell, The Fairy Dragon

Model: Fairy Dragon

Range: 450 | Move Speed: 280
Primary: INT
Str: 15 + 1.6 | Agi: 20 + 2.0 | Int: 25 + 2.4
Damage: 40 – 56 | HP: 435 | Mana: 286
HP Regen: 0.85 | Mana Regen: 0.70
Attack Speed: 1.30 | Armor: 1

Ferinell was a wild fairy dragon who was raised by the Priestess of the Moon, Mirana Nightshade, after being found in its nest in the aftermath of the war as a newborn. Ferinell grew up under the care of Sentinel mystics and druids learning about the power to use mana. Being a fairy dragon, Ferinell easily learns to use mana as a weapon at his enemies and an aid to himself. He helps out the Sentinel as gratitude for his rescue.

Skills:

Yielding Strike (T)
Ferinell lunges forward, damaging all in his path. He is able to stun enemies in his wake, however, Ferinell is stunned for 0.5 seconds. Attack Range: 700
Level 1 – 120 damage; 0.75 sec stun
Level 2 – 190 damage; 1 sec stun
Level 3 – 260 damage; 1.25 sec stun
Level 4 – 330 damage; 1.50 sec stun

Mana Cost: 115/130/145/160
Cooldown: 12

Framework: Ferinell will rush forward in a blurry line
Comment: Kind of like Morphling’s Waveform, though much more risky to use because of the stun. (the stun effect can be removed if you want)

Mana Flare
Ferinell has a chance to damage nearby enemies with his mana flare. He deals extra damage to the target.
Level 1 - 10% chance to attack; +40 bonus damage
Level 2 – 15% chance to attack; +50 bonus damage
Level 3 – 20% chance to attack; +60 bonus damage
Level 4 – 25% chance to attack; +70 bonus damage

Auto-cast
Mana Cost: 30
Cooldown: N/A

Framework: Ferinell will shoot blue orbs at some enemies.
Comment: This is a deviation from the traditional mana flare which makes the fairy dragon turn into a living arcane tower. Since he was raised by mystics, he is able to harness the flare’s power even in movement.

Mana Shield
Ferinell is encased in an invisible barrier which converts damage unto him into mana.
Level 1 – converts 5% damage
Level 2 – converts 10% damage
Level 3 – converts 15% damage
Level 4 – converts 20% damage

Passive
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: N/A

Framework: Ferinell is seemingly under the effect of a blue aura of a Flask of Sapphire Water
Comment: This skill will turn all damage directed to Ferinell into mana. However, poisoning and gradual reduction of life points through poison won’t work. This only works with direct damage. Skills from items that do damage are part of the effect as well (i.e. Dagon)
Note: I’m at a loss if this should be autocast or passive…

Mana Wave (E) [Ultimate]
Ferinell unleashes his mana unto enemies around him (500 AoE) damaging them with a fraction of its remaining value. As penalty, Ferinell loses 25% of his remaining mana after the skill is used.* (Aghanim’s Scepter’s effect is in parentheses)
Level 1 – Deals 30% the value of your remaining mana as damage (40%)
Level 2 – Deals 45% the value of your remaining as damage (55%)
Level 3 – Deals 60% the value of your remaining as damage (70%)

Mana Cost: 300/450/600
Cooldown: 200

Framework: A wave emanates from Ferinell at the 500 AoE radius.
Comment: The damage does not count the cost of the skill itself. The remaining mana after the consumption is taken into account. For example: Ferinall has 1800 mana at level 3 Mana Wave. In using it, he loses 600 mana, leaving him with 1200 mana. By calculation of the 60% damage, you get to damage targets by 720.
*The penalty was added to prevent abuse with refresher’s orb.
Note: If this seems imbalanced, I need suggestions on how to make it usable. Seems like a nice skill to use though… I wonder if it should be a single target? I added the penalty here in case of imba, but I could change it if you want.

Yielding strike: good as it is, except for maybe 13 sec cooldown, since it stuns. Up the mana cost to 115/130/145/160. You'll probably boost mana anyway.
Mana flare: sounds okay, but best make another active skill to benefit from your Mana Shield and high mana pool.
Mana Shield: Pretty nice, but hard to tell if this is fair or not. Go 5/10/15/20% to be safe.
Mana Wave: Fair enough, you get under par stat gains for it, so you have to work on your mana pool.
Comments: plays somewhat similar to Obsidian Destroyer, with the focus on mana and having a big mana pool and all. Hmm...

Really, yukino? I'll go and see Savant... I don't really read much of the Hero Ideas beyond the first page... I'll go see the difference and change accordingly. Smile

Meanwhile, I'll take into account quickbrownfox's suggestions. Yes, Fairy Dragon does play like Obsidian Destroyer so that there will be something for the Sentinel to use. Might as well make the Mana Flare active... maybe autocast would be nice... Very Happy

Though i'm still wondering if i should post this... Confused

Ive never posted before so hopefully I do okay.

I enjoyed the hero and would like to make a few, non skill related suggestions: a) perhaps Ferinell should be a female character? when i read the name I innately thought it was a woman. Also coupled with the title Fairy Dragon, it just did not seem exceedingly manly to me.
b) Another nonbalance tweak may be the third skill's name "Mana Shield." Since it douesn't function like Medusa's well-known mana shield its probably better not to keep the name. I suggest Mana (insert similar word/ possibly emphasize the recovery nature of the move?)
Again first post sorry if I broke a rule or anything, loved the idea Smile Glad to see you keeping them coming.
