Anyone noticed the recent picking and banning of Lanaya, is it because of her recent small buff to refraction's cd or what?

After Kuroky owned with dagger shes been picked banned most matches.

She does bring the pain early game with meld/refraction and have an awesome slow which is very spammable

Nice to see a different hero used just wondering what the main reason was for it. Hopefully in the future players will find imbaness in different carrys which will change the way a hero is picked and played.

I don't know why Lanaya has just been noticed, but I do know a few reasons why they pick her. She has her aoe slow which is a really nice escape + ganking/stopping escaping enemy. It can also be partly used for warding.(runes). Refraction is ultra mega survival skill. Meld has sick dmg especially when maxed early game. But what I really like about Lanaya is that she is really good through the whole game. Early, mid and late game.

Some people probably didn't notice Lanaya in the past since they considered her to be so frail and weak, however, with this DPSgeddon upcoming, she probably has the biggest potential with double meld/refraction combo.

Also, in the replay caspian posted (of Kuroky playing Lanaya), did you notice how Lanaya laned with Zeus quite fine due to refraction? That's another reason people took notice to her recently.

I've had a special place for Lanaya for quite a while, playing her in pubs and such. I think only recently people have realized the imbaness of having a hero with low cd invis, spammable wards that can slow, and a defensive mechanism can ignore high damage nukes. I mean, 200 dmg and -8 armor for 50 mana? I think we'll be seeing a lot more of Lanaya in future league games. Kinda like batrider and the new viper when they first came out.

Uhhh... We all know that!!! I wonder... what if caspian didnt publish the dpsgeddon nobody would really notice lanaya or if kuroky didnt picked lanaya. but shes just so tough refraction rocks!!! yo!!! then her imba farming abilities was just awesome!!! she can even harass with just one level of it!!!
ANyway i wasnt shock that lanaya wasnt harassed by zeus, coz i did it once... pubby... lanaya can be a counter to none DoT spammers or nukers with slow as. or we can just say int type heroes

She's banned because she's totally imba
Seriously, refraction prevents ALL damage that hits her for 5 hits
anything, even spells, lagunablade? NOPE REFRACTION
its totally insane
Meld is a low CD invis that gives an epic backstab bonus
Psi blades is one of the best harassment skills in the game, by just attacking regularly, she can harass the enemy heros she's laning against
And her ulti makes it so that you cannot escape from her, and you cannot chase her, and she has epic map control

^ agree but shes not that totally imba (hypocrites!!!) super dps heroes can counter her dps will wear off refraction then her slow was made that it can be seen several seconds after putting it on. her meld was useless if you wont come near then how the hell she can escape with meld if teh monster knows your there!!! PEOPLE SAID LANAYA WAS WEAK THEN NOW SHES POWAFUL SUCH A HYPO!!!

but undeniably lanaya was awesome even b4 u had known it.

Strength buff basicly made TA. The only problem wit Ta is that she cant lane, solo mid is the only way to go. zis rigidness accountd for her not having a scene in competitiv in the past... i think TA can be played semi support via meka. We're actualy questioning the bottle in kuro's lanaya

i think kuro used bottle to spam skills and regen hp and of course mid lane is the nearest lane to capture runes!!!

To be honest my team was using lanaya sladar combo with tide (gush) and/or vs (terror) weeks before mym used them, it is a fairly common strat this version.

^ also some six months ago lanaya was already the top pick in our community she was used as a main pusher killer and tank.

I've always played pudge to counter her. Refraction means almost nothing against Rot. Meld wears off if the user moves, so Hook does that just fine. And she's fairly fragile without refraction and meld, so Hook+dismember+rot combo is a pretty good counter.

See, competitive people go through the changelog, they check out heroes who got indirectly buffed and try to find every possible strategy using that hero. They WANT to explore out all strategies before actually using them so you'll generally have a small time after new update that you see the 'new heroes'.

1. The recent nerf to phase boots and other armor giving items meant lack of cheap armor. This means heroes that can reduce armor are indirectly buffed (and to a huge extent actually). This meant more viablility of heroes with armor reduction skills namely Tide, Dazzle, Slardar, Lanaya, Venge, Nevermore (maybe missing someone).

2. If you've noticed, the tri-lane strategy is back to business. Now the biggest flaw of this strategy is that if the tri-lane didn't work out, the three heroes of the lane would become extremely prone to ganks and would die just too quickly. As Ghost pointed out, using Lanaya means like maphacking, which means ENEMIES WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PULL OUT SUCCESSFUL GANKS. Thus increasing importance of Lanaya. This also means you could expect a tri-lane when the enemies have Lanaya.

3. One thing that competitive gamers give importance to is the ability to counter the opposition. As the last meta-game comprised of more INT/STR heroes, it means they have low armor => again -armor heroes are viable picks.

4. The recent buffs to Lanaya specially to her STR meant that she could solo more easily. While this factor seems to be the actual reason to many, this is more of a 'meh!' reason. She would've done without it in the current metagame.

5. Buff to dagger means indirect buff to heroes that use dagger efficeintly. This again include Lanaya/Slardar (and many more).

Now, everyone wants to just believe and spit out what caspian writes so I guess most would not appreciate me.

[Pro-tip: Did Caspian actually give proper reasons as to why there will be more 'Lunas of 6.49'??? or he just writes 'OMG! dps heroes got -bleep- buffed now everyone who ignores them is noobish/whatever'.... I mean, WHY THE HECK WILL PEOPLE NOT NOTICE HEROES GETTING BUFFED. JUST CUT THE CRAP AND TELL WHAT ARE THE ACTUAL DEEP THINKING REASONS THAT LEAD TO SUCH AN IMPORTANT DECISIONS BY COMPETITIVE GAMERS? THERE'RE SO MANY HEROES THAT GOT WTF*ck BUFFED SO SHOULD WE EXPECT TO SEE EACH N EVERYONE OF THEM? (perfect example troll - a lot of buffs but still no use)]

Pro-tip 2:
Many people here are saying that they're using this strategy from a long time and I dunno what do they want to prove by stating this. The thing is that though your line-up did have the same strategy but it fits the current metagame the most.

I know I sound like I'm pissed off and actually I AM.
