Posted: Sat Apr 12, 2008 7:41 amOk, HoD is a good item for spell resistance throughout the game, however i have a major problem with it and hence that is why i hardly ever buy it. And that is because you lose 5 armor
Stats on items:
1x RoH: 5hp regen p/s; Or 2x RoR: 4hp regen p/s
1x HoIW: 3hp regen p/s; 5 armor
1x Planewalkers: 15% spell reduction
HoD: 8hp regen p/s, 30% spell reduction
So you sacrifice 5 armor and gain 15% spell reduction(and 1hp regen if you bought 2x RoR). I just dont believe thats a fair trade as 5 armor is significant throughout the game.
All other recipe items get better or some aspects of the items stay the same, so why the nerf with the armor? i just dont believe its fair or worth it to buy this item.
Dominator maintains armor, gives damage and lifesteal. Battefury increase damage, gives cleave, and regen. etc, etc...

u remove the + 5 armor, for the + 15% magic resistance

I agree i don't get HoD as much anymore because of the armor that goes missing, i think they should add the armor into the final product and this item will be gotten much more and more valuable

You dont only get 15% spell resistance.
You also get + 1 hp regen and 3 extra inventory slots.
Hood is supposed to be a situational item, while facing a team of tough spell casters (example if you face Lina, Lion, Davion, Mirana, Magnus, all of which have spells). Its not supposed to make you tankyish...

The 15% increase is crucial because 2 hoods or cloack never stack. Its good agains zues, ogre, lina etc because they hardly depend on their normal att for damage. Its worth in some situations only so u cant compare 15% magic reduction with 5 amor.

They serve different purposes.
Magic reduction actually doesnt become insignificant in late games, its the spell that lose the effectiveness.

I don't mind losing the 5 armor. It's a pretty nice item, spell reduction is important in the caster-owned early-mid game. Not to mention the fast hp regen which I think is one of the highest in the game, next to HoT and Bloodstone. If you wanted armor, get a Platemail.

why would you complain with losing 5 armor? hood is for heroes with low HP, and high armor or low HP's and tanks
my advice, if you dont want it, dont get it. we dont care. there's 3 similar threads like this one

I think it is worth it, for losing the 5 armor you get +15% magic resistance, and the helms regen as well. I don't have a problem with it and I think if it was changed to have the armor it would be overpowered. If the armor had to be in the item, it should have a recipe scroll cost as extra.

lol, let me ask you one question:
Q: Why would someone get a HoD?
A: To weaken spells!
let me ask you another question lol:
Q: Would you need armor against spellcasters?
A: No! Armor reduces physical damage, not magical damage.
Moral: If you're going to get a HoD in the first place, you're probably getting it to lower the damage you recieve from spells. If you wanted to lower the damage you recieve from normal hits, get something like a Blade Mail.
