One item that seems to be really overused in 6.48b is the Empty Bottle. In many 6.48b games I observed this item has somewhat become a staple, just as short-range displacements (a.k.a. Blink) are craved as a skill. But that's not really a surprise. The Bottle heals for 200 hit points and 100 mana per use, regenerates fully from runes and can even be regenerated through a Crow Courier express delivery from the fountain. And the fact of the Crow Courier (or Vulture in the case of Scourge) making Bottle-Fountain caterings to heroes in the battle formed the basis of a strategy called "jungling" by a DoTA-Allstars forum member called Mountain Wolf. A strategy which even received praise from famous MYM player Jacob Toft Anderson (called MYM Maelk).

(If anybody did not know) Runes spawn in the river every 2 minutes, so paying 200 for observer wards was equivalent to having first-hand access to them and therefore ensuring an uninterrupted source of healing while on the go. Plus it's so easy to buy a Bottle - you can get one simply from the Goblin Merchant in the side lanes without going to base. At the same time relax and unwind to 60 seconds of Haste or Regeneration or get it rough with 60 seconds of Double Damage or it's time for the disappear act with a 60-second double!




So can you tell me if you can resist buying a Bottle?




But Icefrog, who was responsible for making the item so lustfully attractive, backtracked somehow, as it (we don't know who he (?) is) believes the Bottle has been abused, just like how Kelen's Dagger of Escape was. At the same time this map-maker has a penchant of hating items that he made being left-out, unused by players of his map.




This line of reason leads to our 6.51 today.




The Empty Bottle's power was weakened, as was some of the runes (Haste and Regeneration) and the Crow/Vulture. Even the Goblin Merchant was not spared - the Bottle is not available there anymore. The next item that most resembles the Bottle (and one of the most left-out in 6.48b) - the Perseverance - was given one of the strongest buffs ever among all the items Icefrog made. From a +4 hp regeneration, 100% mana regen and +7 damage it now gives +5 hp regen, 125% mana regen and +10 damage, not counting the fact that it is also part of the Battle Fury recipe which also has been receiving strong buffs. It is part of a plan to make ever-so-popular entities less popular and less-popular entities more popular. It's not aimed at toppling it from its base at the peak to the bottom. And judging from Icefrog's relenting from his 6.49c Bottle changes (which received angry complaints) that seems to be the case.




Now, as before, the changes were not a surprise. But I had wanted to congratulate Mountain Wolf on his successful 6.48b jungling strategy. I am not so sure now.

hmm but jungling are only suited to a few players..even with the bottle strategy. but I do like your assessments, somewhat informative

Yeah, in previous version I like to do bottle-crow refill but not now. How can icefrog nerf it badly....

I never really resorted to use the crow to refill the bottle.
Rune hunting was enough, actually, I never bought a crow.

Unless I don't have enough starting gold, or If my hero has a life/mana-regenerating skill, I always buy a bottle.

Yeah i totally agree that a perseverance can greatly help your early to mid game. But buying a bottle can help you survive at a cheaper price. It is also usable for collecting runes. And... yes, crow bottle refill has become a bad idea.

Caspian has some weird ideas. Bottle is nice early game but it loses effectiveness fast. Buying a crow to refill your bottle is odd but I guess it's good to get a crow anyway for buying items.

For me( as a Magnus user) the bottle is a very important item to me because it is where i get mana from early game and i can get access to store runes in there.

On the 6.50 version where there is many changes i totally disagree about the fact that the bottle has been change and more importantly that the rune has a 2 minute cooldown.

On the other hand the boosting of perseverance is a very happy change for me (as a magnus user) because you do not need other regen items and perseverance is a more you can afford item. With the other changes that the price of void stone is lowered.

As my conclusion I reserved to have perseverance than to bottle.

Jungling is like a delivery from FedEx from time-to-time the hero is wounded.
However, it is good but the changes makes the power of bottle become overpowered. IceFrog wants to change it or they will be overrated.

Crows have mana. That's why, he's a FedEx delivery bird (just a joke). It will be a good battle method.
