this is an observation of mine that i'd like to share with you all.

when i first started playing dota i used to choose mainly razor and sniper. the only reason being they were ranged - because the one thing i feared in dota was being in a lane against 1 ranged hero or hell even two ranged heroes.. the most exasperating bit of the game was from levels 1 to 8 or so when everyones usually in their lane farming away levelling up and if i chose a melee i would have gone back to the fountain maybe a 100 times by then.

however i started playing with melee heroes and soon became half decent and now actually pretty good with them - running in last hit and run out of range and so on. these days i actually like being paired in a lane opposite one or two ranged heroes as it gives me a chance to prove to myself how much ive improved and in doing so gives me a rush .

also i find that melee heroes and SO MUCH BETTER than ranged ones take for example nessaj with a blink and a stun and a crit or leoric with lifesteal and stun and crit or slicice or so many......

to my fellow noobs id like to give some advice if youre starting out and you feel like i used to do. use either lycan or troll warlord. troll coz in the starting levels can be a ranged hero and later on be changed into a melee with his godlike bash and lycan coz its slightly easier to creep when your wolves are making your enemies run back out of range all the time.

Actually when you are melee, you might ask for a lane switch.

But yeah, melee is tough, I still cant get the hang of it.

I started off melee, Skelly King ftw...It is difficult to begin with when you are laned against 2 ranged, but just hang back, last hit and wait for the later levels

i used to always use either lich or twin headed dragon
but now i'm ok with both
and i should try lycan (never played him b4)

i have to be honest, ranged heroes are easier to play with.
but personally, i am so used to using melee heroes that i actually farm much easier with them.

melee heroes may suffer a bit in early game, but usually have higher damage and good movespeeds. either that, or they serve as tanks.

but i do agree that ranged heroes are noob-friendly so if you're a noob, then start out with an easy hero like razor or viper.

Ranged and Melee are both equally good, because Melee heroes tend to have higher damage

Good question.

Range heroes are good because they are aggressive in the early game. However... Melee heroes (especially STR type heroes) are the persons who like head-to-head conflicts.

Range heroes are mostly INT type but some of them are AGI nukers...

Range heroes must be fast in attack (or aspd in short) so that they own the game. Some skills are helpful in defeating the enemy. Still, it affects the aspect of attack.

On the contrary, Agi melee heroes and STR type heroes differ from one another.
Agi melees are fast stabbers. STR type heroes are TANK type heroes as well. They are tough attackers and heroes.

Damage is the big main factor to heroes. Skills, ASPD are the sub- type factors to the combat between Melee and Ranged ones...

Do you want to be a warrior or a ranger?

It's your decision to choose wisely.

But the combat will be good.

That was my thought a year ago also. Most meleeH have higher starting dmg wich is good, and staying back and go in for LH and Denies isn´t that hard

Most people cant place melee agianst agressive range.

My friend will own with most rage,
he trys melee heros and just feeds.

If you use Drow or anyone has a skill that gives a blow...
That's the point.

Ranged are only superior to melee in the lane situation, and then also only if they are playing smart. In a gank, nothing matters.
