To the Denizens of DotA

Posted: Fri Jun 13, 2008 1:44 am

I have a major problem with playing DotA, and that is that I am new. As far as I know, the only way to get better at this game is through trial and error. So is it fair that I, somebody who just got this game, is ridiculed every time I die? How the heck should I know what to do? I'm trying to learn, but I can't if I get booed off a server every time. Basically, I'm asking you guys to be more understanding towards noobs; so far, you're driving me away. Not everyone is a pro player the moment they play the game for the first time.

Please be considerate,
Mr. Myr

yeah its a bitch, not a matter of trial and error but practice, people seem to forget they they were once noobs too.

i would suggest turning to AI maps for some training then finding some noob only games

AI maps are brutal, don't try them! They will outlevel and outfarm you easily, don't try AI maps!

Just go into a server (-apem is best) and get your best hero. Just ignore your allies when they start getting mean.

when im just starting on playing DotA, i am with my friends. and yeah we're all noobs. imagine us attacking, carrying recipes only. the opponents are laughing at us and chatting "NOOBS!!!".

kinda humiliating. but im not alone. Laughing

yup, play with your friends first. play against AI for practice or play against each other, like 2v2.

anyway, im not a kind of player that trash talk. players do that to distract you and lose your focus on the game. ignore them and dont trash talk too.

Or try getting a few friends together and play lan games first. That way you all learn. And who cares about what people say when you're playing online - just ignore their comments because the worst thing you can do is actually let them know that they're getting to you by responding.

Hooray! Not every WC3 player is a jerk!

Thanks to you all for the good advice. I'll try most of those, except for the lan party, because of the crappy laptop I play on and lack of friends who have the game to play with.

Try the new AI map, 6.51 AI+ revision 3 by buffmeplz. There are -ne(normal exp) and -ng(normal gold) mode for AI make it easier to practice with.

Uh yeah, even with norm. exp and gold, they have excellent skill at denying and last hitting, ganking, defending even pushing. But at least he can train with them for several times until he know the basic of dota.
Then go pub games.....

I understand how you feel, but if you join pros games when you are new you can't expect them to be happy when you don't play like a 'pro'. Try playing with friends on lan, find newbies or noobs games, or practise with AI.

weve all been noobs once.. i feel as long as you make a good effort. its all good. ask your teammates for help and advice. and listen to them when they shout commands. if ure gonna be farming neutrals when mid 2nd tower is going down for example. u ARE gonna get shouted at. tell them ure a noob. and tell then u help you out. shudnt be a problem
