This is something that really pisses me off. I'm not sure how this "infection" got spread. but why's everyone calling this and that useless? For example. Lothars is useless because there's dust and wards? I'm sick of people saying lothars is useless just because it can be countered by dust and wards. Honestly, would icefrog even create it if the windwalk was useless? 3.4k for 38 dmg and 10 aspd? Take dagger for example, it's not good anymore because why? you cant blink if you got attacked by a player controlled unit or roshan. For crying out loud, virtually everything in dota can be countered. Come on guys this is supposed to be a forum which helps newbies. Suddenly noob friendly items such as lothars is useless. You gonna encourage a new player to buy force staff or use heroes like potm?

no one said items are useless. its just that some are easier to counter than others. take lothars. in a high level game, people actively buy wards to counter warding and as a by product of this, lothars becomes harder to use correctly. also, a lot is at stake in initiation in leagues and lothars is not as reliable as dagger. in pub games, warding is not as prevalent and so lothars is OP. however, i still use dagger simply because its more fun to do epic shit with blink. at sny, its not useless, but its inefficient. the point is to provide an item which can be made easily. you are trading power for ease of making. however, if things arent going your way, it makes more sense to make sny than to prolong a radiance rush to the thirtieth minute. generally some people here have logic behind calling items bad or inefficient but they do so in certain situations only. however, some users are influenced into believing that anything said here is absolute and not dependent on situations. that is why you may see the sporadic "lothars is useless nab". its because people don't always understand why certain items are termed useless.

If anything I would say that the noobs themselves are the ones saying that noob friendly items are useless. A higher level player usually looks beyond the initial countering and can still use the item quite easily and with a fair amount of success. Then again..this is DS and we all know how people can get on this forum

i agree, but when somebody like this has this kind of reaction to an item or a coment, theres no arguement back.

they blatently think its bad, so they troll the forum... kinda person looking for post count

if uare talking about playing in pub, yeahh. lothar isnt useless. but if you are playing dota at higher level competition, lothar is almost useless as the enemy will actively buy ward to counter invi hero. dagger is far more useful IMO. actually all item has it weakness. lothar is good for troll as u need to be near to your enemy without collison from creep or heroes.

I would say all item has weakness. lothar for example, is easily to counter then dagger

Oh the other hand, I have seen people like pudge, vs, and kunkka get lothars in leagues fairly frequently now, it seems like lothars is making a bit of a comeback as it has its strengths (damage, backstab, slightly lower cd imo, ability to use whenever you want, mind games with zero collision even if truesighted, etc. Then again, it has its mentioned weaknesses, but in no way is it a bad item, or even necessarily inferior to dagger.

Well, AFAIK Lothars isn't really expected for more than a superphase boots, and physical backstab damage, but saying dust/wards make it useless in invis is a very dumb way to look at it. SA is useless then too, right? Then how come pro teams pick him? It costs GOLD to counter these heroes, so lothars forces the other team to spend money to get the stuff to counter them. And it doesn't quite counter the item completely.

However, DS is somewhat turning elitist.

Meh..
New members = more people who don't know each other
Not knowing each other = flaming and arguing
flaming and arguing = hostile environment

In conclusion, as the mature community gets older and phases out, the younger come in. Most of them thinking they know better than everyone just because they won using a certain build or because they watched 2 or 3 replays of NIRVANA or MYM!

Pfft.. That's not DS.. It's the dota community altogether.
