Notes about the enemy/CHAPTER 9 OUT.
Posted on Wed Dec 16, 2009 7:18 pm"This material is intended to aid the warriors of the Sentinel against our enemies, and to give more detailed information about the Scourges champions. To this book, I have gathered my first hand experiences, stories, rumors and reports from the Sentinel and it's allies, to enlighten the facts about the foes we are up against.
Use this material before considering hunting down a foe or encountering one on the field.
-Mirana Nightshade"
Kardel closed the book and looked at the camp of the Sentinel. Some druids and soldiers were returning from the patrol, and the mood started to rise as the perimeter was proven safe. He lighted up his pipe and opened the book again.
The book wasn't very easy to use. There weren't any kind index in the beginning, and most of the pages seemed to be written in quite a hurry, and there were a lot of typos and stains on some of the oldest pages. "Someone should rewrite this", Kardel muttered and put away his pipe which had burned out. He turned the pages, looking at each one carefully. He was looking for a writing about a flying beast seen in the north, on the edge of the river.
The Bounty Hunter who was scouting behind enemylines there told him that a new kind of enemy had entered the battle a few days ago. This captured Kardels interest since there were always money promised for mercenaries like him for taking out any of the..."officers" (as some mercenaries called Scourges champions or simply stronger entities than a mindless ghoul) of the Scourge. The quicker the better.
Gondar had described the being black, flying with two wings. The beast was told to have six limbs; hands and four legs, and seemed to be created from black rocks or possibly obsidian. Kardel had heard rumors about obsidianic statues being used by the Scourge in Northrend, but this was something different.
His concentration was disturbed after a while of reading when he heard some loud noises and shouting at the far end of the outpost. The Goblin Alchemist had entered the camp. Soldiers and druids were shouting insults to the little goblin riding on a huge ogre, which ran forward decisevily and swiftly (probably drugged, thought Kardel) through the camp. The Ogre was carrying large sacks of loot on his hips.
This was the reason why Razzil was despised among the Sentinel. Like any good mercenarcy has to, he too was extremely greedy. But in Razzils case it went quite over the limits. He had a habit of looting all the corpses in the battlefield. There were rumors about him looting even the corpses of his dead allies after battles. This was never proven but still he was hated for his greed. No one really thought that the goblin minded actually. He probably hated the Sentinel as much as they hated him.
Kardel turned his attention back to the book. "Here we go" he said outloud, as he saw a raw sketch on the left page. It resembled a centaur with wings and it was holding a pair of funny looking clubs. This was what he was looking for. Kardel started reading the next page.
"Written by Mirana Nightshade, captain of the Sentinel. This is the official report from our encounter against the beast known as the Obsidian Destroyer which happened 4 days ago, by the great river."
to be continued soon

Chapter 2
"The incident started, when I was commanded to take two of my finest champions and a squad of druids to the northwestern outpost of our lands by the great river. The order came directly from the Prophet himself, who told us that the outpost was under heavy siege. The distress signal was originally sent by the Silencer through the Sentinel owls in our forests, but no runners ever made it out of the base, so we figured out that the outpost was already surrounded.
We could not use any kind of portal magics since if the Ancient Protector of the outpost was damaged, the result of teleporting might've been severe. I had to take champions who could travel fast and without rest, since we had a long run ahead of us if we wanted to get to the battlefield by the nightfall. I chose Luna Moonfang and the mighty Centaur Warchief. They could keep up with my pace. I instructed the druids to fly to the rendezvous point by the river and meet up with us there. Then we set out from our camp.
We moved swiftly, and the sun was still goldening the horizon when we arrived to the river. But the druids were no where to be seen. We got worried, but we did not have time to think what to do, even less time to wait for them. We decided to move in to the battle. We had some upper-hand against the attackers here; the siege was done from the north, but by coming from the river we had an excellent opportunity to flank the unexpecting mainforce from their side.
We followed the river for another hour, and then the sound of the battle was brought to our ears. We saw the legion of ghouls fighting off treants at the gates of the outpost. The legion was huge, much more than the usual raiding parties we usually see at our scouting missions. But they were unaware of us, and we lept into the battle. Luna and I called waves of moonlight and stars upon the foul undead, and the Centaur crushed and maimed the mindless ghouls helplesly trying to harm his massive body.
The mainforce sieging the gate soon noticed that they were getting flanked, and thus started to move away. We managed to trap some of their forces between us and the gate, getting us some valuable time and space. We told Bradwarden to continue defending the gate, while me and Luna ran into the base, to see what was happening on the otherside.
It was far worse. The Scourge had already breached the walls of the otherside and were already halfway through the base moving towards the Protector. We quickly saw that this side of the battle had Scourges champions aiding the attack. The monstrous Pit Lord Azgalor was bringing down waves of fire on our men and the Sand King was rending the earth bringing in thunderous earthquakes.
We quickly spotted Nortrom behind his own lines shouting commands at every direction. When he spotted us he grinned:
"About time, I knew you Kal'Dorei can't be trusted! You know what to do."
He raised his finger to his lips and suddenly the whole sounds of battle where silenced. We knew this was our time, he had been saving this trick for help to come, and we didn't have time for plans. Azgalor saw us and looked like going to cast a spell, but nothing happened. Frustrated, he just swung his massive glaive maiming the whole front-line, and started charging at us. The Sand King was also aware of our presence and started moving towards us in the battle.
Nortrom cursed the area. All the enemies started decaying and rotting in pain for the inability to be connected to their own magic. The ghouls and necromancers looked like screaming, but still, without a sound. Luna lept at Sand King who was close now too, almost as close as the charging Pit Lord.
I cannot surely describe what happened in Luna's battle against the Sand King, but I can describe our work against Pit Lord with Nortrom.
We both lept away from the way of his glaive, when it crushed to the place where we stood seconds ago. The whole ground trembled as the Pit Lord pulled the glaive from the earth. Nortrom threw some of his glaives at the demon and winked at me at the same time. Pit Lord easily deflected the glaives, but failed to dodge the arrow I shot to his front leg. We heard the demon scream in anguish. The silence had ended.
A huge gust of wind blew from Luna's side, and we noticed that the Sand King had created a huge sandstorm. I hoped it was because it wanted to hide.
Azgalor fell on his other knee and dropped his weapon trying to pull out the arrow jutting out of his leg. Nortrom saw the chance and ran to the demons back. Azgalor didn't notice in his pain that Nortrom had climbed on his other shoulder and raised the Glaive of Wisdom. With one swift slash Nortrom had struck his glaive in the demons head. For a moment it looked like that Azgalor was going to grab the elf, but then the demon collapsed.
I saw Nortrom pulling out his glaive from the demons neck, spitting on the demon while doing it. Then he took a quick look around the base, and turned to me. First he pointed himself, and then pointed the sandstorm. Then he pointed me and the breached gate. I nodded and started movi...
Kardel cursed when one of the decayed pages fell out from the book and almost broke when it hit the ground. He gently grabbed it and continued reading.
I nodded and started moving towards our frontline which holding off the Scourge from the Protector. For a moment I thought it was my imagination, but then I realised it. Blood was raining from the skies. Now I knew where our druids went. The pale moon which had risen from the horizon drew silhuettes of airborne battle in the nightsky.
I saw a black figure in the sky fending off the soaring druids in crowform that tried to bring it down. Many of the druids seemed lost, but the creature seemed too slow against the agile Stormcrows. I thought they were going to bring it down. But suddenly the whole sky flashed with crackling burst of pure energy, and the air above the battlefield was filled with bloody feathers. Our squad of druids were gone.
The figure started descending towards the northern front where Bradwarden was fighting. I changed my direction and rode my tiger towards the northern gates. He had to be warned.
to be continued. I actually managed to bring the harbinger in lol.
