The Childhood of Kunkka
Posted: Fri Mar 20, 2009 1:46 pmMe first fan-fic. TBC later. Only the first section of however long this ends up being.
On a starless and cloudy night full of the whispers of the forest, young Kunkka rested soundlessly. The faeries of the dark quietly crept past his resting place, watching over him in his deep slumber. It was peaceful outside, but all horror imaginable broke out inside the young boy’s mind, surrounding him with fear and death. He was again reliving the great battle which claimed the lives of everyone he had ever cared about…
-Flashback-
“Come here, son. I have something very important to show you.” King Proudmoore said to him.
“What is it?” Kunkka asked inquisitively.
“Come and you shall see. I am sure you will like it.”
“Go along now; don’t keep your father waiting.” His mother, Errinaya said in her crystal-toned voice.
Kunkka skipped along the marble tiled floors, glancing at the magnificent pillars holding up the great structure he lived in. He quickly caught up to his father, a man who was young for his many years. He had a mildly long grey beard curling down about halfway to his chest. His face was strong and lean, showing the many years of battles he fought, and scars to remember them. On the top of his head was a glorious crown made of the finest of pure gold, mined from the Dwarven Master himself 570 years ago, when the first of the Proudmoore family claimed the throne. It was bedazzled with emeralds and rubies, and sparkled with diamonds the size of a human eye. All around the top of it were crosses and spikes, a required element to all of the great King’s crowns. Then he looked back to his mother, gazing lovingly at the two of them. She was a remarkably beautiful woman – any man would give anything to be in the King’s place. She was a fair and just woman, magnified by hear angelic figure and her white silken clothing, smooth as milk. Her scent was sweeter than honey, and her face so pure as platinum. Masked with the glorious light behind her, she could be mistaken for an angel. Her face was smooth with no lines or wrinkles, clearly pampered over the years. But you could tell even she worried about her husband by the look on her face, although it was often concealed behind her eagle-feather fan. As Kunkka again looked forwards, they had almost reached a grand oak door, one he had not been through before. His father had said himself that the fortress held uncountable rooms. Two guards in fine armor, holding spears and swords in sheaths opened the doors. Inside was a large, square room, holding only one item in the center. A sword held up on a pillar only about three feet high. The sword was unlike any that Kunkka had ever seen. All the swords he had seen were long and sharp with a pointy top, often with spikes on it. But this one was completely different. It had a regular grip, but it seemed to be two swords in one, with both parts bent to make a kite shape; longer at the top and shorter at the bottom. But even more mystical about it was the glowing blue essence that surrounded it.
“What is it, Dad?” he asked.
“Son, I would like to introduce you to what will one day be your sword. This is the great Tidebringer.”
Fin of Part One of whatever. I guess this is pretty much just the introduction. Hope you liked it! To be continued probably soon...

Part Two of Whatever...
Posted: Sun Mar 22, 2009 10:44 amKunkka awoke with a start. It was morning; the sun had just risen. He wearily got up and splashed water upon his face with a flask of water. He must soon be on his way. His guide faeries took lead and he quickly glanced at the heading, to make sure they were on the right track. He never did trust faeries for some reason. He took his steps slowly at first, still groggy from a restless sleep. The faeries had failed to ensure a peaceful night. As he made his way down the hill, he looked up from his boots and saw the great forest before him, only a few feet away. Felwood. His father had told him of this great forest once, along with a rather long story of one of his adventures and a battle against bane-wolves. He had also been thoroughly warned of its dangers. He knew he must be careful in order to survive and finish his quest.
After walking without stop for several hours, Kunkka knew he must rest and then hunt for food. The sun was nearly at its peak. Under the canopy of the trees, he was protected from the suns powerful rays, but not from hunger or thirst. He quickly sipped some water from his flask. Sitting down, he unsheathed Tidebringer to be prepared for when he would hunt in a few minutes. He laid his head back on an ancient pine, breathing slowly. He took another sip from his flask. When he felt ready, he stood up quickly and scanned the area. He sent out the faeries in different directions to scout out some good game, keeping two with him just in case. He did not have to wait long. After only a few minutes a call came from one of the faeries. A young but meaty faun had been spotted, only a few hundred feet from where he stood. He turned to his right and made haste in getting there. Slowing down, he caught sight of a small meadow not far away. Lurking around elderberry bushes was the young faun the faerie had spotted. Kunkka knew what to do. His father had taught him Tidebringer’s secrets, and he set up the bubbly trap beneath the unsuspecting animal’s feet. Within two seconds, it was up in the air on top of a torrent of water. Kunkka charged at it and quickly sliced its neck, killing it instantly. He gazed at his soon to be meal. This would do well to keep him full until nightfall.
Back where he had rested, the other three faeries were waiting with a fire already at hand and a spit to roast the meat tenderly. With a special hunter’s dagger he sliced up the faun into according sections of meat. It was only now that Kunkka realized how ravenously hungry he was. He could hardly wait as the meat slowly turned on the spit, cooking it all around and ridding it of the harmful diseases. At last it was done, and Kunkka sank his teeth deep into the meat, ripping it out and hungrily chewing it. He savored its taste as it went into his stomach, filling him. As soon as he finished the fire was covered with dirt and protected with a faerie spell to make sure no one suspected their being here. They quickly moved on through the forest and into the night, where Kukka was again buffeted by horrifying nightmares of his past.

Will continue again later. Have fun reading.

Chapter/Section 3...
Posted: Mon Mar 23, 2009 12:47 pmA crystal clear image of his past appeared in his dreams, one of his father and him.
Kunkka turned his gaze from his father, and looked out into the vast landscape before him from on top of the balcony. He saw much farmland with the livestock, homes with burning firewood, markets with the salesmen and people buying what they needed for daily survival. It struck him how different his life was from theirs, and they had only lived so far away from them. His thoughts were then interrupted by his father’s deep and soothing voice.
“Before you son is the entire Kingdom of Dalaran and its beauty. It is a magnificent place, don’t you agree?”
“Yes, father, it is.” Kunkka replied, distantly.
“One day, when it is my time, you will claim the throne, and all of Dalaran. You will be its rightful King and ruler, with its entire population at your command. You will live in this castle with your family and watch over the people. From here you can fight wars to expand you land and defeat ferocious enemies. And from here, you can relive what our past Kings did to make this great city as it is now. You can see how the people are happy and content with the way they live, and how they continue to live their lives like so. However, you must be sure to be a fair and just ruler, or the people can revolt and take you off the throne, ending the Proudmoore’s reign. I understand you are still young, but you must be trained and raised as a King, to ensure the people’s content and safety. Another thing you mi-” Kunkka’s father was interrupted by the royal messenger, who came in looking very worried.
“Sir, sir I must speak with you immediately. There is danger afoot, and it may affect the people of this city.” The messenger spoke rapidly, evidently very frightened with the news he had.
“We shall talk about this in another room. Come with me.”
“Father, what is it?” Kunkka asked, worried as well.
“Not now, son. This is very urgent business that must be attended to as soon as possible.” His father left at that, walking through the observatory and back through the long hallway, where he quickly went into a double-doored room – his throne room.
Kunkka was too worried to not know what was going on. He made his way to the two double doors and put his ear up to the keyhole. He couldn’t hear very well through the door, but he was able to make out most of the conversation.
“Sir, I am positive that this is a warning. They may wage war against us. I know it myself that our troops are not prepared for such an attack, especially from an army such as the Scourge. What do you think we should do?” The shaken voice was evidently that of the messenger. Kunkka listened closer still.
“I understand. If they are truly going to attack us in such a little amount of time, we have to have our troops at the ready. Put them into practice and make sure they stay at it. We will need them as ready as possible if we are to be attacked by the Scourge. In addition, I will need you to contact the watchtowers. Have at least two extra men in each tower to watch out for the army, just in case. We know of their powerful sorcerers that could hide most of the army. We will need extra eyes to keep a sharp eye out for any suspicious action. Put a few extra archers up on the wall as well. We’ll need as much extra help as possible if we are going to be surprise-attacked.” The sturdy voice was that of his father’s.
Kunkka had heard stories of the Scourge before. He knew of their fearsome power, and how ruthless they were in battle, not to mention that they had not lost any of them yet. They destroyed entire cities, using what was left over to improve their own base, and extend their land. They burned down houses and casted spells on people, forcing them to join their army. They were certainly not neat about anything that they did. Anything they did not pick up were the remains of all of the dead, leaving masses of bloody pools all over the area. The stench of all of the dead would make the area impassable for months on end. But the most fearsome thing about the Scourge was their leader – the Lich King. It is said that he is Arthas, a once good soldier fighting for peace in the world. But he turned evil, and his mind became rotten. The only way to stop him was to freeze him on his own corrupted throne; now called the Frozen Throne. Even in his icy prison – one that no sorcerer could destroy – he still had massive amounts of his evil power and magic. The only thing people could do against the Scourge was run away, or hope to be spared, which would never happen. Kunkka’s heartbeat doubled.
Kunkka woke up. It was morning again. He was sweating all over, and the faeires were nowhere to be seen. They hadn’t protected his dreams once again. But even so, he must start his journey again, to continue on to the Sentinel.
-------------------------------------------------------------
To be continued…
Hope you liked reading this. Sorry if it’s a bit long, though, I just couldn’t find an ending place until just then. Oh well. Wait for the next chapter… Coming soon!
