The Kiwi is a nocturnal flightless bird that is native to New Zealand. It is also symbolic of New Zealand being the national bird, and as such is used as a general non-derogatory term for people of New Zealand origin, and also for New Zealand products and institution, e.g. Kiwifruit, Kiwibank.

No that isn't from a dictionary, I made that up and if you're wondering how I know so much about the Kiwi, look at my location.
