STARCRAFT 2: No lan support?!?

"We don't currently plan to support LAN play with StarCraft II, as we are building Battle.net to be the ideal destination for multiplayer gaming with StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games. While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded Battle.net service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experience with StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy.
Several Battle.net features like advanced communication options, achievements, stat-tracking, and more, require players to be connected to the service, so we're encouraging everyone to use Battle.net as much as possible to get the most out of StarCraft II. We're looking forward to sharing more details about Battle.net and online functionality for StarCraft II in the near future." said Bob Colayco at Blizzard PR

That is just preposterous. Why don't they just make it that you have to have online support to confirm used or not used cd keys in order to use LAN?
No more LAN parties for the new Starcraft is such a bust. Also in pc gaming cafes will no longer have people play with each other unless on Bnet, which will have so much lag known from experience playing LAN with a bunch of people in DotA.

lol not my point
Taking out LAN, which is one of the biggest aspect of gaming, is ridiculous.
I'm pretty sure Blizzard is gonna make a killing off of SC2 with or without LAN.

duh, SC2 will fail if they kill the LAN support.

Though I'm disappointed with it, I have to say that what they did is a really good move. Forces people to buy the original thing

Well yes, in one way it is a good move because it kills piracy, but countries with slow internet connection or out of BNet reach will have problems. SC2 players in those countries can't access Bnet easily and play without the lag. Except later if garena supports SC2, that's another story. In my country there was also the same problem which occurred on WC3 (out of BNet reach) so our local gamers community created an official nationwide Bnet (similar to bored aussie).

Bnet blows!!
Agree with Pinky this is just for anti-piracy reasons, nothing else.
