Well, this is a thread for you to share your ideas on, and ask suggestions from other creative minds. Got a story but can't work out this particular scene? Seek help here.

I'll start with one of my pending projects.

After getting immersed in fictional universes featuring real robots (that is, technologically-feasible mechs unlike impractical designs like Voltes V and Daimos), I decided to write a real robot story dealing with a fictional universe of my own.

The catch: The star of the story isn't Japan, nor America or Europe, but my country, the Philippines. Hence, it's going to have Filipino-inspired designs and whatnot.

Now, I'm thinking (and writing at the same time) the first chapter of my story. Here are the details:

Teenage kid (haven't thought up a name yet) is the son of a very wealthy military officer, who is a test pilot for a top secret mech project. The mech itself is stored in a secret hangar of their residence, which is hidden in the Sierra Madre Mountains.

One day, after a hard day's training in karate class, teenage kid goes home and lies down on his father's bed (instead of his) for a change. Suddenly, the floor below the bed opens up and the bed descends underground, along with teenage kid.

He descends underground and sees a huge mech standing at the secret hangar.

Basically, that's it. Now, what's next? I'm thinking of an incident that could put the protagonist inside the mech, and use it.

The setting is something like 20 years into the future (it could also be present time, with a few retcons in the Philippine government, though), and it is peacetime (no wars at all. Japan and North Korea had been wiped out in a prior nuclear war, and the Middle East has been pacified.

Terrorists? Hmm. Maybe I could just let teenage kid take a try on the mech, having it fly out of control outdoors (where it is suppressed by military forces). A foreign invasion would be fine but I don't want to think of a major conflict at this early stage.

What do you think? I know it's ambitious, but I'll give it a try anyways.

This is the same story where we brainstormed the mech names and classes amirite?

An actual military figure would be nice, just to balance the kids-piloting-a-mech cliche. He could serve as his mentor or as an adversary, either way the teen would learn a lot from him.

Are we going to discuss story ideas here? Cool...

Yay...Pinoy.

Any ways, a military figure is nice though make more details on how the bed decends, so it's a bit less like a mystery. Do something like an innocent mistake, something like that to cause the bed to descend...
