Are You Influenced By Saving?

Posted: Tue Dec 18, 2007 10:42 pm

I am. Let's be honest. If i was playing a hero that could make good use of either guinsoos or aghanims, i would probably go for the guinsoos, unless by some miracle i didnt go back to the fountain until i had enough gold to buy everything i required (boots, tp) and still have enough to purchase mystic staff. I would WAYYY rather blow my money on cheap items (i.e. Euls), whilst telling myself that "ill be able to buld on it later". I hate it. I just dont have the power of will to go out and farm the extra 500 or so gold that i would need for a mystic staff, because we all know i'd rather have a scepter. I just feel my money is safer "in the bank" having already bought items, rather than keeping it out there on the stock market, which could rise and fall with a hero kill/death.

I have problem on that too. I don't farm. I stop farming after the first 10 minutes and go Hero hunting. I usually go for cheap upgrades like Bracers, Null and Wraith. My staple build in every Hero is a Power Threads and 3 of the Cheap upgrades and most of the time, I go for Hand of Midas. But I still manage to pawn and make the game nice with those Items. Perseverance for me is like a Luxury Item.

I don't have a lot of patience I think, that's my problem and maybe your problem too.

Well, that happens quite a bit, but I've found it's A LOT better to wait those little 5 more minutes to get the gold for the "Big Deal"
You may feel safer with the money "on the bank" as you say, but I believe it's the opposite... You NOW have the chance to farm a little more and get to (in this case) the Scepter, what if you blow it on an Eul's and then you get killed a few times? It's pretty unlikely you'll get that money again in the game, believe me, it has happened to me quite a few times Laughing

i usually go for some basic items (vanguard, boot, RoB) then saving 3800 for relic ^^
Neutral farming mostly..., sometimes go to a free lane.... or sometimes help make a kill....
if unable to gather 3800, sometimes 2200 for BoT....

well IMO it depends on my lanemate.. XD
if i know he's a good player i wont go back for shopping unless he leaves... or if i ever get really low on hp... and farm farm farm.... XD
i usually go for guinsoo... IMO guinsoo is much more helpful than aghanims... XD

situationally on the guinsoos > scepter (rhasta comes to mind).
It could also be my farming techniques, because i know it's dangerous to push solo to the opposing tower after early game i may need to adopt my strategies to include denying harder. I also suspect i am hitting creeps full time instead of only last-hitting

haha, can't believe you used a finance analogy.

Do you know what is a good idea. Just staying out until you MUST go back. There have been a couple times where i managed to get Boots and 2 ulti orbs by doing that.

I have a similar dilema while saving for the Butterfly.

I used to be wary about dying and losing my money so I'd buy Quarterstaff first, then save for the Eaglehorn... However lately I go straight for the Eaglehorn. The return on investment is much greater than Quarterstaff and it makes the rest of the farm seem faster/better.

My order of importance for Guinsoo VS. Aghanims totally depends on the hero. Would you get Guinsoo before Aghanims for Ogre Magi? I thought not.

I'm a farming maniac and usually save my money for more expensive items. Usually get boots, scroll, bracer/wraith/null, RoR, RoB, and tangoes. Then i will go farm a lot of money. If use no farming skill hero, I just get cheaper items.

i think its situational and depends on a hero... f you think you can survive and kill with little items then go for god items straight on... but if you think your survivabilty is low atleast till mid-end game i think you should first get cheaper items that wil help you and work your way up...

Yeah I agree but I always try to save for a better item then buying an ok item and making sure I spend my money before I die. If you own then I guess nothing to worry about. But When I save and die Yeah.. I get pretty upset!

Very Happy

psychologically, if you buy the toughest thing to get 1st, it will make the rest so much more "easier" to get but combining the buisness analogy and what raxxar said..if you dont play smart youll end up in the great depression

I kind of feel the same way... In 100% of all games i play, I always buy a courier and as soon I can afford an item I need, I buy it on the courier, so that I will not have money to lose if my char would happen to die.

As for the guinsoo/aghanim choice, you seem to say guinsoo is a bad item which it is not... I would say in -em games, for most heroes guinsoo > aghanim. Enemy dps:ers will get insane items. You need to be able to hex them while your team's dps:ers kill them.

Well...you know how the old saying goes. Better safe then sorry. But me, I get randomized. Sometimes I play safe, sometimes I take risks. But then, try taking some risks at times. To add a little spice to the game.
