Crapped out Internet

Everytime i play dota my computer will drop about every 40-50 mnts . This is really affecting my dotaing, Any1 have any suggestions what i can do to fix this! And every 8-12 mnts my game will freeze from lagg for 8-10 seconds. I cant have a normal dota game because of these two problems

There can be numerous causes to your dilema.

1. Internet - you should have at the very least a 256kbps connection in order to play online.

2. Video Card - If your video card is old, then have it replaced ASAP. I know people who get minor to extreme lags after 10mins of playing dota because their video card can't keep up.

3.RAM - same as above, make sure you have, at the very least a 256 RAM in order to play DotA properly.

RAM and VIDEO CARD are #1 internet is big but, your comp will suffer if ur video card inst good enuf.

What they said. Although Warcraft III is a fairly old game, it still has a reasonably large drain upon computer resources especially if you're playing online. Here are some tips you can do if you really cant replace any hardware:

Check your computer for viruses and unwanted external programs and clean them out.

Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Defragmenter. Use this tool every 2-3 months (Basically it organises the way files are stored on your hard disk which decreases read time). These 2 techniques are basic computer maintenance and should be attempted on any computer every now and then.

When you're playing DotA, turn off all external programs. Although playing without music or a banlist maybe pretty crappy, programs like these are a major drain on computer resources.

Press ctrl+alt+del and go to the task manager, then click on the 'processes' tab at the top of the box that comes up. This brings up a list of the processes windows is running at the current time. Go through this list, looking for any items that are using a high amount of Memory (High numbers in the Mem Usage column). Try clicking on these and clicking 'end process'; not all can be ended but some can (note, don't end processes like WarcraftIII or Explorer... if you know what the process does and it's vital for what you're doing don't end it).

This may be kinda obvious but yeah: when you're on WC3 stop any and all other internet usage. If you're on a computer network with other people, yell, plead and bash them up until they stop downloading for a while.

If you follow all of these and still get dropped, then you're really going to have to look into getting some new hardware. As Orochi said, main things to update are RAM, Video Card (less so for WcIII though because it's not the most video intensive game) and Internet connection. For Zeus' sake don't play DotA on wireless if it has a bad habit of dropping in and out.
