Discussion: Arcane Ring
Posted: Sun Oct 29, 2006 6:50 amLet's have some discussions on the new items in the latest version of DotA. I know a lot of you have already tested these items in your own games, but for discussion's sake, and those still new to the game, let's discuss how they affect the game.
Arcane Ring
Gives:
+3 Armor
+300 Mana
Replenish Mana (Active) - Restores 135 mana to an area around the caster. Around 350 AoE. Mana cost is 25. 30 secs cooldown.
Requires:
Energy Booster (1000)
Ring of Protection (175)
Arcane Ring Recipe (525)
Total cost: 1700
I think this item is great, but not really imbalanced. That 30 second-cooldown is quite long, if you spam your spells early. However, using this at the right time is key. Use Replenish Mana whenever its ready so that you can virtually not run out of mana. The AoE is quite small, I think it's even smaller than Mekansm's AoE, so you need to tell your teammates when you're going to use it so that they can come closer to you when you activate Replenish Mana.
Heroes that can use this well:
Luna Moonfang
Spamming Lucent Beam early game is a great harassing tool and Arcane Ring ensures that you have additional mana to do so. The small armor bonus is also helpful since she's very fragile early game.
Bradwarden
We all know there's no chance of spamming Hoof Stomp early since his mana pool is lame. But the Ring can easily help. Although most experienced players would rely on last hitting rather than spamming Hoof Stomp, it never hurts to have the mana to Stomp when being harassed or ganked early.
Kight Davion
Dragon Breath is an automatic to spam early, as it's also a great farming/harassing skill. Being a Strength hero, his natural armor isn't that high, so the Ring's armor bonus helps.
Purist Thunderwrath
Purification and Arcane Ring make a great combo. Need HP? Purification. Need mana for Purification? Replenish Mana. You can stay in your lane for the longest possible time with these two items. Omniknight healing the entire team over and over would probably mean more time for pushing/defending. The perfect combo, IMO.
Sven
Another Knight that can use this Ring well. Storm Bolt is great to max out early. Unfortunately, Sven has a very low mana pool and he doesn't gain that much when he levels up. I've had several occasions where I cast Storm Bolt, stun my enemy and get him to red health, only to find out that I no longer have mana for God's Strength. Arcane Ring can help you get the mana back for that God's Strength that you need to finish him off (or vice versa). Experienced players would rather conserve his mana and use it at the right time though.
Raigor Stonehoof
He's the only hero that perma-bashes using his skills. So an Arcane Ring gives him the mana to further use his skills longer. The +3 Armor is also a bonus to this Strength type hero.
Yurnero
Blade Fury is a nice farming tool. Too bad he runs out of mana fast. The Ring gives him more Blade Fury uses, and like Sven, more mana to combo into his ultimate.
Razzil Darkbrew
Nerfed big time since 6.37, you won't get much from Acid Spray nowadays. But it's still a great AoE spell used for farming and harassing, so he needs the early mana. But later in the game, he really won't meed this Ring because of sufficient mana.
Mirana Nightshade
Her signature nuke spell Starfall is a great farming tool. And with Elune's Arrow being a great harassing skill, you'll run out of mana early if you use these two often. Arcane Ring solves this problem, giving you more Starfalls are more farming power.
Medusa
Her Chain Lightning is a great farming and harassing skill, so you need the mana early. Not to mention that she has Mana Shield that eats up her mana fast. So the Ring is a definite fit for her.
Lucifer
Using Devour almost every creep wave early game is a no-braiber. And since you also need the mana to cast LVL? Death and Doom for his signature combo, having the Ring makes you to be able to do all in one go. Armor bonus again is helpful.
Anub'arak
Probably the greatest harasser early game, he needs mana to do serious damage. With Arcane Ring, he can actually do his signature combo and still have mana left to chase with Vendetta.
Viper
Poison Attack and Viper Strike eats up a lot of mana early game, so the Arcane Ring gives you even more mana for last-hitting with Poison Attack.
Magnataur
Shockwave is a great farming and harassing skill, so he needs the early mana. The armor bonus is nice too. Although when you have maxed out Mighty Swing, you will only need Shockwave to deal the finishing blow against enemy heroes instead of farming, so the Ring may be for the early game only.
Nevermore
Spamming Shadowraze arly means more kills for Requiem of Souls, provided you also have Necromastery learned. Also, Shadowraze has a 9-second cooldown, so you need a lot of mana ealry game to spam it. Arcane Ring helps in this respect.
Crixalis
If you realy on Burrowstrike for farming, then you do need Arcane Ring early game. Like Sven and Yurnero, you need the extra mana boost to combo into Epicenter.
Mogul Kahn
He needs all the mana in the world if he wants to use all his skills early game, so the Arcane Ring helps him a lot in executing his signature combo. I may have to try spamming Berserker's Call early game if I have Arcane Ring. Or maybe not. Hehe.
Intelligence Heroes
This is probably a no-brainer. More mana equals more spells to spam.
Well, that's what I think about Arcane Ring. Wow this post is uber-long already, so I'll just shut up for now. Post your thoughts.
(Sorry for my lame icons for the new items.

Moo.
>_<
Davion = Dragon Breath
Jakiro = Dual Breath.
Might wanna change that.
My opinion in a nutshell:
Arcane Ring = IMBA early - mid game. Useless late game.

Lifesteal Aura
Posted: Sun Oct 29, 2006 11:09 pmIn regards to the item that gives a lifesteal aura..... does it stack with the lifesteal orb? IE sk's aura on naix.....
Basically could you have it with a satanic and have 40% lifesteal? Could naix use it with a satanic? hmmmm
Have not had a chance to test this...
I believe this is the correct place to post this per garf's post (even tho subj says arc ring).
Thanks

@ Yukino:
Thanks for that. I've changed it.
@ mmantiss:
Basically, Na'ix's Feast isn't an orb effect, so any lifesteal item will stack with it. Same with Leoric's Vampiric Aura.
The Lifesteal Aura is basically the same as Vampiric Aura, so yes, you could have it with Satanic and it will stack.
